What Are You Reading Now?

So you are listening to The Shadow Reader?
DG, what do you mean about the covers?

Mimi - Mr. Lynch has been battling serious depression and that's why it's taken a while for the third book to come out. I read recently that there are rumors he already submitted the manuscript of "Republic of Thieves" and that it will possibly come out this year but again, those are rumors and there's nothing confirmed.

If you notice, when I replied to your message (753), a completely different cover came up instead of the book we were discussing. That's happened since GR 'disconnected' the authors from the covers (if you hover over a cover now, it won't have the author.)

Oh, I didn't know about that. i just noticed the date has been moved like 3 or 4 times. GR still shows October, 2012 as the release date but that doesn't have to be final *sigh*
Thanks for the info.

I know. :( Hopefully he's on his feet and he can start writing again - books #1 and #2 were published in back to back years so maybe he can write quicker once he's feeling better.
Also the series is not a trilogy but at least 5 books (I understand that's what he's contracted).

After I posted I saw the posts in the SOS group Pre Orders 2012 discussion. So silly, that is not an improvement at all.

So when should we read

ETA: Harvest Moon looks to be about Kelly and Lief -- that is no surprise though.

I mostly listened to it. I just read along at the beginning a bit because I got lost with the way the story is told (goes back and forth in time.) But once I got used to that, I listened to the audio exclusively. It's really great.

And Regina, can't wait to see what you think about

I have Harvest Moon loaded on my Nook, along with #16 (Bring me home for Christmas).
I didn't have much of a chance to read yesterday untill around 9pm and then I was falling asleep and drinking wine (not a good combo :) So, I need to finish

I do have a ton of book already on my Nook. Plus I had all my docs put onto an external hard drive so if I really need one I can pull it from there.

Kay, it wasn't my favorite unfortunately. It keeps you reading, so it wasn't that hard to get through, but the characters and plot lacked depth. There just wasn't much story there. I kept wishing for better dialogue too, there could have been some wonderfully romantic scenes and conversations but it just didn't happen. :( I read it because of the movie, going to see it on Friday.

They are great Leea! Funny, action packed, quirky characters. I think you will enjoy them!

Leea, Monday or later sounds good. I am not sure if I will be done with Clan of the Cave Bear by then.

If it ends up being similar it will get a bad rating from me, no matter how entertaining the story is. I will not reward blatant copying. I couldn't do it when Armentrout copied Mead, so it would be a double standard if I rewarded it for this author.

It doesn't matter how entertaining a book is, if the majority of the ideas were taken from another person (not a well-known lore or race system, but specific details), then that person who's copying shouldn't be getting as much as attention as they are.
But, I'm not far enough in yet. I left off at the start of chapter 5. If the rest of the book veers off into its own thing, then I will forget my rant. If it doesn't, then I think the only fair thing to do is to write a negative review.
Kay, it was this book that copied VA : Yes, I listed all of the similar details because it was hard not to notice.

I haven't read Dark Swan either.
I always think of the Fey not going with technology (I guess because of the business of cold iron) and the medieval dress is sort of par for the course in most fantasy worlds so I'm not sure how those could be original to anybody who writes in the genre. Now the portals and the anchors are other things although I've seen those in other books (in the Demonica series, the Demons go different parts of the world via Harrowgates).

Yeah, I agree here. As said I haven't read Dark Swan, so maybe it's more than that, maybe it's very obvious, and the plot is similar too? Or the characters and the relationships?
In any case, I can't say and compare, I just liked this book independently, because of the characters, their relationships and the interesting political and war-connected happenings. Now, if any of that's similar, it'd be a big problem for me.

If this changes, then I will relax and be able to enjoy myself more. Hopefully, this will be the case because I want to like the book.

That doesn't seem that much of a difference if the structure of the love triangle is similar!

The one guy who she has a strong connection with, then a newcomer enemy comes along who is willing to kill her if necessary but you can tell he holds a fascination with her.
Also. Book 1 of Dark Swan you have a human who has no Fey abilities (that we know of to start. it's not hard to tell that this will change), yet can interact with and travel to Fey worlds as needed to do her job, which is the same.
But I'm going to stop now. I'm seriously hoping that by tomorrow I will be more than halfway into the book and that enough things will be different that I will be able to move on and forget the start.
So far, the book is entertaining!

Well I hope

I've gotten used to finding similarities in books, but

Unfortunatelly, I am too invested in finding out if Armentrout will change this in the next books. So yes, I will keep reading them. Do you know how horrible this makes me feel? Guilty, dirty and like a traitor to Richelle Mead, whom I love.
Sorry to intrude in your conversation =)

You know how you're having one of those days and then you step in gum and that's the last straw - that's my day, again.

Carina, I know. I keep reading the Covenant books because of my love for Dimitri and having Aiden so similar it's like getting to spend more time with Dimitri. But because I felt like Mead deserved better than being ripped off, I took the star rating off my books and instead just wrote in my review what I did and didn't like.

What happened?

DG, you just reminded me I have to finish Me Before You so I can read DoSaB, and I also have to give Angelfall a try. I feel no preasure at all...
I don't really want to try Obsidian. I've heard its a Twilight clone. Not as bad as Half Blood, but still very similar. I don't want to get in that sittuation again if I can help it. Armentrout's writting is addicting to me!

I didn't find there to be enough similarities to want to bitch about it the way I did with Half-Blood, although I did list out the similarities in my review again. Because apparently, I'm sort of anal-retentive like that.
Just knowing you and the types of books/heroes you like, I'm pretty positive you'll like the book. It's an extremely easy read as well, so it's perfect after a heavier read.

But if it makes me suffer and feel guilty, I'm holding you personally responsible.

Nah. I don't think it will bother you the same. I was hard on HB (probably more so with book 2 because it kept going) and didn't have the same feelings toward her other work.

Seriously, everytime I think about Hal Blood and Pure, I get these guilt pains....not fun.

I think after your post I'm moving it to my 'maybe' shelf. Lack of character development (in any world) is the kiss of death for me.
