Michael (michaeldiack) | 23 comments Hi,

I released my debut novel back in April this year and it's currently getting great 4 and 5 star reviews and praised for its originality, creativity and humour.

The Super Spud Trilogy

The personality of the Super Spud is determined by their flavour. Tuna flavours, enriched with omega-3 fish oils are very smart, while steak and spinach flavours are incredibly strong due to their high iron content. The story is fast-paced and a series of non-stop adventures from one chapter to the next, encompassing locations including Egypt, Mexico, UK, Italy and the North Pole! I basically want to entertain the reader and let them read something truly original and quirky. It also contains many references to popular films and characters like: Indiana Jones, Star Wars, Robin Hood, 24's Jack Bauer and Batman. It's fun, quirky, strange and, hopefully, unlike anything the reader has read before ( it is walking, talking crisp packets afterall...)

Thanks,
Mike

R.J. Askew (rjaskew) | 23 comments Yes, but to be an author is not enough. Certain other qualities are requisite. Perhaps said qualities are more important than authorship. Perhaps authorship is but an incidental, an almost mechanical function compared with said other qualities we must possess to win. As to what those other qualites are... I know that I possess one of them. But again, it is not enough. And so we fail unremarkably, waste ouf time pimping our souls to others who do not listen, being to absorbed in pimping their own. Shall I add my book title on the off chance? No. There is no off chance here. Just another thread of the desperatly seeking.

Marc Nash (sulci) | 181 comments well structuralism tried to remove the author out of the equation of producing a text altogether, (the geographical and historical circumstances of the author made the book they wrote an inevitability apparently) but then structuralism I feel is a bit dishonoured these days. So the author is back at the helm. Only the welter of bilge water threatens to submerge him once again from full sight. Man the lifeboats. Women and children first (Chick lit & YA?).

Sheryn MacMunn (MacMunn) | 3 comments Finding Out

Hi everyone - I self published FINDING OUT in April and have been having a blast promoting it through social media. FINDING OUT is a story of Sheila Davenport who gets dumped by her boyfriend of seven years and now must make sense of her life. Help comes unexpectedly from her 86-year old neighbor, Ruth Grey, who shares stories about the ups and downs of her life during WWII in Germany and America. I would love to be considered for an interview, Emily.

I also highly recommend that authors run a Goodreads Giveaway. It's a great way for readers to find your book. I just did one and 810 readers entered.

Now this is the sort of comment I like as it is not the usual buy-me, buy-me bilge from the spamsterthors. I am in the boat, rowing strongly, hurrah! We are surfing the mean average here, stucturalism and all other PhD thesis from small time ponderers. Is that a frigate bird I spy keeping an eye on our journey of discoever here?>

Marc Nash (sulci) | 181 comments ravens were used by the Vikings to spy our new lands, since the raven would only alight on land or otherwise return to ship which informed the crew there was no land around.

In Norse myth the ravens Huggin and Muninn were given the power of speech so that each day they flew off and returned to whisper information in Wodin's ear. Sort of spies really.

To be an author is enough to write a book. To be a successful or wealthy author requires luck, perseverance, and often connections, but that doesn't change or invalidate the drive to write and the success of making something new. If you really believed authorship was incidental you'd be trying desperately to get on the list of James Patterson's ghostwriters, or penning things under a byline for Harlequin.

I'm more than willing to have serious discussions about writing, and I was a reader on these boards long before I decided to go for it and write. You want to talk about the difficulties of being a literary author in a form of publishing that's heavily slanted to genre work? By all means. Just ease up on the condescension in what is an introductory thread, okay?

I like the notion of those great ravens with their great black beaks and their whisperings. What literature that was! And we have no idea who the authors were. The great Snorri Sturluson just preserved the verbal tradition. CAAAAAARK!

Jeanette (goodreadscomlifeandliterature) | 28 comments Hello All,

This is a quick synopsis of my first YA urban fantasy novel, Culture Shock. Should be out sometime in 2013. Tell me what you think!

After losing her only friend in the world, seventeen-year-old Macy Holmes and her parents make the long-awaited move from Manhattan to her mother’s hometown of Bougainvillea, Florida. Macy is shy and struggles to make friends, always faking confidence behind designer clothing. With this move, she is determined to break out of her shell and gain the real confidence she so desires. Macy still fears she will suffer from social isolation in her new school until she is sought out by three strange students. They take her in as one of their own, though she is not. Once boyfriendless, Macy now has three boys harping for her attention, how will she choose? She knows the logical choice, but the dangerous one seems more appealing…
Life in Bougainvillea takes a turn toward the supernatural when her friends start revealing their true selves while Macy becomes tortured nightly by horrific nightmares. Her dreams are being infiltrated, making her see things she would never have imagined on her own. Macy is being pulled along in the footsteps of a man she’s never met. She’s left confused until she sees how he’s tied to her best friend’s death. She rises in fear each morning, sporting a head wound that just won’t heal and the nagging suspicion that these dreams are real.
Macy must learn to keep it together while fighting off zombie assassins, deceptive shape-shifters, and high school bullies. Can she and her friends find out who is manipulating her dreams and is out for revenge before it’s too late?

Ian | 3 comments My name is Ian and I'm an author. Okay, that's the difficult bit out of the way!

My novel Fallen Star is available in ebook and tree book formats. When Karl's career as a pop star comes to a sudden end he finds life and love in the real world harder than he ever imagined.

If you're in the market for a 'book boyfriend' - as discussed on another thread - then you'll love Karl.

A second novel set in the long, hot British summer of 1976 is currently in the editing process. I also have a collection of short stories available: Late Show

The eight books of TechnoTma had a total print run of over 250,000 copies and have been translated into German and Spanish. Talks are now under way about translating TechnoTma into English.
Now I have just one novel on English Memoria. A dystopian thriller

June Collins (junecollins) | 42 comments My Latest review for Goodbye Junie Moon;
5.0 out of 5 stars Hello Junie Moon August 7, 2012
By Hope Ellis
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified PurchaseI loved this book. It made me laugh, it made me cry, but most of all it made me feel I was there. June had a life one usually only reads about in fiction, but this is not fiction. Her story before going to Vietnam was happy, sad, conservative, promiscuous, affluent, poverty stricken, a life of contrasts, a life that was a novel on its own. Then as a dancer in Philippines, Japan, Korea and Vietnam she grew in strength, giving us her readers a true picture of life and war. She is not only a heroine as a whistle blower, but a heroine and a mentor for anyone worried about stepping out of their own comfort zones. Hello June and congratulations.

Charles Cornell (charlesacornell) Hello everyone! I'm a British born author living in the USA. My debut thriller, Tiger Paw has been nominated for two Best Thriller awards. Check out my website for more information and for my twin blogs, The Tiger Unleashed! and Speak of the Devil.

In Tiger Paw, FBI profiler Scott Forrester hunts an assassin belonging to a demonic East Indian cult that is wreaking havoc on Wall Street, murdering corrupt CEOs at the center of a billionaire’s stock scam. Firmly in the assassin’s crosshairs, Scott Forrester is forced underground to stop the killing spree. But will he survive the deal he must make with the Devil to thwart the cult’s plans?

Tiger Paw is a thriller cloaked in mystery, psychological suspense and international intrigue. A story of people who have sold their souls in exchange for wealth and power. A story of greed, deception, and revenge. And a story of one man’s struggle to triumph against the greatest evil he has ever faced.
