The infernal devices!! I tried reading the mortal instruments, but it was starting to get a little tedious. Plus Will an Jem.
The Mortal Instruments just because I read it first and fell head over heels for it. I read City of Bones 6 times in a row because I couldn't let go.
Every character is very likable in TID! Can't say the same about TMI....well except simon!!! Love him!!!
I read the Mortal Instruments first, however I completely fell in love with The Infernal Devices series like I never did for the Mortal Instruments. I think I just connected with the characters more. After reading some of the essays and posts on Cassandra Clare's tumblr I really came to appreciate how much creative energy and research was actually put into the series! <3 <3 she's my favorite person :)
This is probably the most difficult decision of my life. I can't CHOOSE! My favourite novels, however, in the two series will have to be City of Glass and Clockwork Prince. I loved so many of the characters in TMI but the Clary/Jace drama felt a bit overdone sometimes. I loved Jace at the beginning, but my love decreased as he became more and more inssecure and lost most of his wittiness. Will and Magnus are my favourite! YEAH! Both for different reasons though, although both could be my sarcastic soulmates! YES YES! THESE SERIES!
I'm all for The Infernal Devices. The relationships KILL me in those books and the plot is so intense and intertwined perfectly UGH I LOVE THEM SO MUCH. The Mortal Instruments are really good as well and the plot is amazing, but I just didn't feel as much in them
I read the mortal instruments first and i stopped reading the sequels after the third book (City of Glass had the most perfect ending ever) and only last year I started reading the other books and then I picked up the infernal devices and I COULD NOT PUT THEM DOWN. When they first came out I tried to read them, but I was comparing Will to Jace too much and I just wasn't enjoying the books. I'm so glad I gave them a second chance because THEY'RE AMAZING! THE LANGUAGE THE CHARACTERS THE PLOT UGH EVERYTHING TID>TMI (but i still love both)
I think that Mortal Instruments is better, but I do witch that Cassandra wrote more then three books in the Infernal Devices. I think if she explored more of Will and Tessa's relationship after Clockwork Princess and the relationship with the other couples in the series, I would have liked the Infernal Devices better.
Even though I read The Mortal Instruments first, I really fell in love with all the characters in The Infernal Devices and the story moved me much more. So I definitely have to say The Infernal Devices!
I have to say TID! Will is my all time favorite character. Plus, who can resist the Victorian era :D
Like i could actually choose! Both books are amazing, the characters are awesome but i'm gonna have to side with TMI CAUS I LOVE IT TO SOOO MUCH. Plus Clary is better than Tessa
I started reading the Infernal Devices (still have to read the last book) and then I read the Mortal Instruments (I'm currently reading the third book) and I would have to say that I like the Infernal Devices more. Cassandra is so talented in writing these stories!!:)
Aneta wrote: "That is an impossible choice. I love all the characters in all of the books. But if i had to choocse one I would have to pick Infernal Devices because the love triangle is just amazing and because ..."Jennifer wrote: "I prefer The Infernal Devices because I got tired of the Clary/Jace love issues in The Mortal Instruments. I really love Jem and Will and the setting of The Infernal Devices better too."
I agree with both of you and probably many of the comments I haven't seen (sorry good people). I prefer Infernal Devices.
Infernal Devices honestly lol hands down. I have never cried nor been so happy as I have while reading that trilogy. I felt as if I were Tessa and fell in love with Jem and Will and when Will died I felt as if I actually lost someone dear to me. 2 years have passed and I own every single book in the Shadowhunter franchise but I have never reread the Infernal Devices because my heart has still not recovered. Cassandra Clare is Satan. that is the only explanation.
Tmi. If u read it first i think u come to love the characters so much u camt get over it . I was in a bit of a reading hangover

I was in a bit of a reading hangover "Speaking of reading hangovers, doctors should really find a cure ^^ I explained to my friends that when one has a reading hangover, you can't just start another series. I usually have to wait a couple of days to become emotionally stable enough to become attached to more characters. Sometimes I forget about past characters...
BTW: TID is best :P
Both of them are AMAZING!! But I read TID first which introduced me into the Shadowhunter world and gave me book hangover for months!!!!!!Btw TEAM WILL ALL THE WAY! <3
Noor wrote: "I love both, they are sooo different! I have to say though... I love ID a little insy bit more than MI, the reason being mostly cause I love books set in the victorian era. The era is so magical! ..."
I totally agree. Though TMI stole my heart first.
I enjoy The Infernal Devices more so than Mortal Instruments. If considering characters and plot lines, the Infernal Devices as a trilogy is stronger than Mortal Instruments (as the six instead of the original three books). My personal preference leans towards the Victorian time setting as well as steampunk tone of Infernal Devices. It lends itself really well to the escapism found in fantasy stories like these.
Even though I love anything that Cassandra Claire writes I loved the infernal devices because who does not want to read about Will and Jem!
I liked the Infernal Devices better, just because of the time period and I thought I could connect to the characters better(:
So hard because my love for TMI is the reason why I started to read ID but because I LOVE stempunk stuff also I was always a fan or brother Zachariah and getting to hear his story makes ID my fave plus I love the characters more
I have to say that I like the Infernal Devices because of the time period and you get to know who characters from the Mortal Instruments are related to.
I love the Mortal Instruments but I'm going to have to say the Infernal Devices because I love the idea of the Love Triangle and Tessa is one of my favourite characters out of all the books that I have read in my life.
I personally like Infernal Devices better mostly because I find the setting more fascinating than modern day New York. Plus Jem's awesome ;)
I say TMI first because in the Infernal Devices you kind of get some background and ancestry info about some of the characters in TMI so to me it makes sense to read TMI fist and then TID that's just me though. Regardless both series are really really good
I love both series. They are each amazing in there own way but i'll always be more partial to TMI just because they were the first books I read from Cassandra Clare and I fell in love with this series.
I love both series but I adored the infernal devicesI thought they were written better, better plot and love was real in a way that it wasn't in tmi
I haven't finish TIM yet (I'm reading now City of Heavenly Fire so we're getting there) but I prefer TID
this is literally impossible, but i think when it comes down to it, TMI because they introduced me to shadowhunters. although i do have a place in my heart for Will Herondale
Infernal devices 💕💕 I have never felt so much emotion while reading a book as I did while reading a clockwork princess when Jem "dies" it was heartbreaking
The Mortal Instruments... just loved everything about this series more than I did anything in the Infernal Devices.
I have to say the Infernal Devices!
DEFINITELY THE INFERNAL DEVICES!!! I feel as though that even though the series is so much shorter than TMI, there's much more character development.
