Hello. I'm sorry to revive this topic, but the link to this thread was just PM'd to me. I want to say a huge thank you, Terri, for sharing this information. I was GR friends with Derek for several months, and I and at least two other friends were suspicious; as you said, there were several giveaways. So, it's a tremendous relief to read your post, especially because I became alarmed and more suspicious than ever (convinced, actually) that everything was faked when Molly deleted her profile--one day after friending me. Of course, like everyone else, I am in utter shock and want to know the why behind this. :[

How did you find out that Derek is still alive? I admit I Googled for his obituary just a few days ago, and of course, nothing turned up.

message 10554: by Terri, Wyrd bið ful aræd (new)

Terri | 19576 comments Hi Caroline,
I shall send you a pm with more details.

It isn't so much as proving that Derek was still alive, more a case of 'Molly' proving through her own behaviour that she was Derek.

Terri | 19576 comments No, definitely not me, Carlos. I like Metallica hard, heavy and old school.

Hear, hear, Dawn! I think he ruined the old ones, too, when he created his revamped 'Director's Cut' versions. You will note that my DVD's of the Trilogy are the ones which have both the original and the revamped versions, and that the revamped ones have never, ever been played.... I guess that makes me a dinosaur?

message 10561: by Dawn (new)

Dawn (caveatlector) Those are the ones I have too. With both versions....
I liked the beefed up explosions in the Director's cut but the Jabba addition was terrible!!

"She" did reappear a second time but I never asked to be her friend the second time around. I have no idea whether "she" deleted herself again.

message 10563: by Enzo (new)

Enzo (enzobalc) | 12 comments Being an old Fossil myself I totally enjoyed the "Special Editions" of the Original Trilogy. They include better looking effects and the Emperor.
A younger Jabba is awkward but it doesn't really take away much from the story. Comparing Mos Eisley from Original to Special Edition is a no brainer. The SE wins big in most shots. But the fanboys get all uppity when you say this because of a couple of major changes:
Ep IV
Han Solo scene
Jabba worming around Spaceport
Ep V
Cloud City Exteriors
Better looking Bobba Fett
Ep VI
Better looking Furries
Jabba (again)
Celebration has fireworks

Just exactly what scene is the Original better then the Special Edition? The Cantina scene with Han Solo. When you compare them you can actually see the "grassy knoll" and clearly see Han Solo shooting first!

message 10564: by Gretchen (new)

Gretchen (eab2012) Don't even get my husband started on the "who shot first" issue. Ugh. Star Wars.

Every scene if thats what they believe, Enzo. In this group we respect each others opinions if they are harmless ones. Nobody has to defend their opinion or prove anything.

Say what now? My Discussions are still on the right. Has it changed back since you posted, Darcy?

He was back yesterday too....and then deleted out of GR again. Just like he used to do with his Derek profile. He needs to accept what he did and move on. Maybe get some help.

message 10569: by Darcy (new)

message 10571: by Jane (last edited Nov 11, 2014 07:01PM) (new)

Gosh, why don't those folks fix basic stuff that doesn't work instead of fiddly bits?

message 10572: by Terri, Wyrd bið ful aræd (new)

Terri | 19576 comments Are you saying Discussions is on left side for you too, Jane? I wonder if it is a browser thing??

Darcy (drokka) | 2675 comments I'm on my iPad now and don't know how to do screen shots from it. But it's the left side for all my devices regardless of browser (though I didn't try IE, but I'm going to assume it would be the same given Jane's message.

Terri | 19576 comments That's okay. Don't trouble yourself for a screen shot. I think she must be seeing it right (ie not drunk, going crosseyed) hehe. :D
If that were the case then it would appear Jane and Allie have succumbed also.

I, on the otherhand, am enjoying having my Discussions on the right side where I like it and where its always been. *feels smug*

On the right of the discussions there is a symbol for settings you can change it there.

P.S. You have to have your page on updates to see the symbol.

message 10591: by Dawn (new)

Dawn (caveatlector) Yes, as Edward says. When you are on the update feed page, on the top right there is a little gear wheel. If you click on this you get a little page with 4 boxes on the bottom. You can unclick Recommendations from Goodreads to make them go away!

Terri | 19576 comments Today and yesterday I have been at the mercy of bad wifi issues again. About ready to toss this new (now 12 months old and has had this issue since the beginning) Acer laptop out the window...if only it hadn't cost me a damn arm and a leg.

I rang the computer repair dude. Not costly to get him to run some checks on it. I am thinking if this thing gets a new network adaptor all my problems will be solved.

Ah, I thought I'd 'grown out' of Star Wars long ago, but hey, you've needled me into a response!

Apart from the Han Solo fired first issue (which is a scenario I far prefer), my main complaint concerned the music. The magnificent John Williams score was written to fit around the original film - by adding extra bits and pieces to the film, the music was well and truly massacred. In my view, this was unforgivable - I'm so fond of the OSTs of Empire and ROTJ that I literally cannot bear to watch the films in their revamped editions. Yeah, I know it's sad, but...

Now there is a reason I need to check on. If I remember correctly Score for Empire and ROTJ were the revival of symphonic scores. I keep remembering John Williams talking about it during the Star Wars in Concert tour.

Linda Laher. | 32 comments May I interrupt these discussions for a weather report?
In the deep South we had sleet this morning, which is very unusual. Going from 75 degrees to 34 degrees overnight is bound to cause turmoil in the skies, but I never expected this. It was a thin band that lasted about an hour, long enough to wreak havoc on bridges and overpasses. It covered our deck then melted.
