On the drive home from the Symphony tonight there were a lot of houses with the Christmas lights a glowing :)

In my (not)so humble opinion Christmas starts Thanksgiving night after to Turkey in put away and the pumpkin pie is consumed :)

We start ours with a viewing of one the many versions of A Christmas Carol - Geo C. Scott's is probably my favorite though Alstair Simm's is not bad either.

Lisa | 728 comments And that's a fair call, Happy. Let face it it's not even December yet. I think if you are going to do the house lights then the earliest should be the the 1st. But thanksgiving is a good place to start. :)

Last time I came home loaded with historical fiction, this time there were a lot of crime books.

Every quarter is a new book adventure. :D

It was odd. I probably would have passed over those two books you mentioned, if it hadn't been for the fact I am currently reading a Sherlock Holmes pastiche by the author and really enjoying his writing style.

message 10763: by Deb (new)

Deb Omnivorous Reader It is funny how you get these trends in book fairs isnt it? I try to go to the lifeline book fair in Brissie when I can, the last time I went I came back loaded with fiction, but the time before that it was all non-fiction. That was where I got Route 66 Ad by Tony Perrottet

I'm with Mr Gretchen. We hang a strong of winking solar lights in our BBQ area to make that feel Christmassy for outside eating, but I hate having the house or yard lit up.

I knicked a belt in a dress store when I was a kid. My Mum saw it when I got home and made me take it back to the store and apologise.
That curbed that adventure into shoplifting.
A few years later I stole some lip gloss to prove to peers that I could shoplift. I felt so guilty I don't think I ever lifted anything again after that.

I did watch the Ireland/Aussie Rugby game the other night. What a @%$#%&$# awesome game of footy!!! Shame we got that dodgy try off that forward pass, but I am happy that things evened out in the end.

I had never heard of him before, but 66AD was great so I hope to read more of is sometime.

On the Christmas lights... I have to say the only time I bother is if my godson is staying for Christmas, as that is not happening this year I sulked, and donated my Christmas tree and decorations to my workplace.

Gretchen (eab2012) Two things I love, books and baking. Elizabeth's school is having a bake sale to raise money for the school library. Four dozen cookies and two pans of bars later, I think I've done my part. I plan on doing even more to help later this week when Elizabeth wants to buy out half the book fair.

You forgot to mention not only was it a "clear" forward pass that only the replay official missed but was also SHORt of the line when touched down :) so yes much fingernail biting in last 10mins as the Irish D was severly tested but resolute. Clean sweep this autumn for the Emerald Isle & looking forward to watching them next year in the RWC... YES managed to win some tickets via ballot, Ireland Vs Canada at millenium stadium & at my local(ish) ground going to see Georgia VS Namibia, also snaffled a QF Ticket for the winner of Ireland's grp - jus need to bt France is all :)

Bobby (bobbej) | 1375 comments What a long week! For those of you in the States you'll appreciate this. I was in Buffalo this past Monday -Thursday. 8-9 FEET of snow. Set the game up Wed. but the football team equipment bus was snowed in on a freeway somewhere. Game cancelled. All major routes and the airport closed. Took secondary roads to go to Rochester 40 miles away. Took 2 hours. Caught a flight to Philadelphia and then home to Scottsdale but made it home for 14 hours and then off to Wyoming for a game Saturday. Home yesterday and leave again Thanksgiving Day. Been a long season and I miss GR! Oh yeah, am reading Revival by Stephen King but of course this is the wrong thread to share that bit of info.

Two of my teams won and two lost this week! You are not possibly hitting two all South teams over the holiday weekend are you? What is wrong with the Saints!
You have a good Thanksgiving and safe travels, my friend!

message 10781: by Gretchen (new)

Gretchen (eab2012) Rob Ryan is what's wrong with the Saints. His brother will be available soon. If ownership is smart they will replace one Ryan twin for another.

Ah well, can't agree with you on the line. He does only have to touch it after all and i think he was close enough to have done that and got benefit of the doubt.
But the forward pass! That was an atrocious call. Can't understand what the third umpire was thinking! May have been looking at the wrong try footage. :)

Lisa | 728 comments This is most definitely random and not book related. On my iPad just now, a new little box has come on the screen. When you tap it it opens to the five different areas on the iPad. I don't know where it came from. Does any know how to get rid of it!!!! I has infiltrated my line of sight and I don't like it. :(

To turn it off, open [Settings] app. Scroll down to 'General', after you klick it, scroll down and klick 'Accessibility'. Scroll down again until you find 'INTERACTION', below it there is a choice that says *AssistiveTouch*, make sure it says 'Off'.

Linda (ladylawyer8650) | 1702 comments Well! I lost my place in Random Thoughts. We need that other Ryan asap in Who DAT.

Turkey Lurkey Day tomorrow. Tom and I are cooking. We put together a pecan pie. Put it in the oven and set the timer for one hour. How much time passed before I noticed the timer was not working I do not know! So he went out to buy a new timer leaving me with a pie that was either half baked or burned. Round two will be over the roll. And so go the days of our lives.

On the bright side, at least the Saints still have a chance to make the playoffs. That's more than I can say about the Vikings at this point.

Just FYI, that *AssistiveTouch* is your virtual home button. It functions just like the physical home button. You can use it to call Siri, mute/unmute, volume up/down, screenshot, and some other commands.

Dawn (caveatlector) Here's another survey for us: http://www.scottishbooktrust.com/read...

I got: Your literary love match is Inspector John Rebus from Knots and Crosses

Long-term admirers of John Rebus may be forgiven for thinking no-one could unlock his Scottish hardman’s heart. They’re wrong; you can. Your decisive no-nonsense approach to life and human relations will suit John down to the ground. With his army background he’ll appreciate your direct communication and even forgive the over-bearing side of your personality.

Rebus can’t rest until he gets the job done, a mind-set you’ll recognise in yourself. His social aloofness will balance perfectly against your more outgoing side. It won’t be long before the regulars at his beloved Oxford Bar will notice that John’s become less married to his work, and... well, you get the rest.

message 10793: by Margaret, Sherlockian Sheila (new)

Margaret (margyw) | 3341 comments Your literary love match is Fitzwilliam Darcy from Pride and Prejudice

Fitzwilliam Darcy is a very desirable partner for many but his heart belongs to one. Not Elizabeth Bennett; you. Your inspirational, outgoing presence is exactly what Darcy needs to draw him out of his ultra-reserved comfort zone and into the warmth of love’s light.

Where you are outgoing and decisive, Darcy is more thoughtful and reflective. Yet his unswerving loyalty will offer you the solid base from which you can achieve your many ambitions. Your mutual dislike of unnecessary silliness and love of straight-talking will mean no guessing games – music to Darcy’s ears.

Lisa | 728 comments Good lord I got Sirius Black :Sirius may have never known a loving home of his own, but your love could yet build your own home together. With your profound depths of empathy, patience and creativity you can cure the shadows that Azkaban left in his eyes. Sirius’ engaging, risk-tasking and charismatic persona will help to combat your shyness.
Harry knows all about Sirius’ impulsive and sometimes reckless nature but you are the one who can help him to overcome his recklessness. If you believe in yourself, the magic you can bring to this world will be excitement enough – even for Sirius.

Allie you are funny :))))
