I am starting Infinite Jest. I am trying to read some books off the Time's Best books of all time list

I read I Am Malala: The Girl Who Stood Up for Education and Was Shot by the Taliban because it was an all-church read. It is an excellent book. I learned a lot about the incident (it wasn't random), her family and the country from the perspective of a Pakistani youth. In between serious comments about how the Taliban and military impacted those living there are comments about a girl who fights with her brothers, argues with her best friend and monopolizes the bathroom while she primps in the mirror! It made her story real and not just another headline. I highly recommend this book.

My mom has the paperback version but it looks so daunting...how are you liking the audio version? Are you listening to the full or abridged version? If I'm going to tackle it, I would probably do the full version even though it's 30+ hours...yikes!

I am now reading/listening to The Scarlet Pimpernel and really enjoying it.

I like the audio, Susie; the narrator is pretty good. I almost always listen to the unabridged version, unless the abridged version is the only one available between all of my usual sources :)

I prefer hardcopy to audio, but when I listen to audio, I, too, prefer unabridged. I just downloaded the unabridged version of The Girl on the Train. It's about 11 hours. I can read the book faster than that! Too bad there are 500+ people ahead of me on the library's wait list.

Of course, by the time I listen to the audio, the book will be available. :o) I have a lot to read ahead of TGotT. Though I can read while listening to radio or TV, I find I have to pay attention to audiobooks in order hear them. I can listen while driving or maybe as I go to sleep, but it will take forever for that. (Maybe I try listening while working on the computer???)

For me, it depends on the type of book. I do ok with thrillers, and non-fictions that don't read like non-fiction, if you know what I mean. I often find my mind wandering, though, with other books, but some are entertaining enough to hold my interest no matter what.

I do most of my listening while in the car, but I've recently started listening while I'm doing chores or other tedious tasks, so I'm getting through audiobooks a lot faster than I used to.

I am currently listening to / reading the Game of Thrones series in between my mysteries. I am addicted to the show and wondered if it really does stick with the books like I've heard it does. I am happy to say that it really does, with the exception of the usual HBO gratuitous nudity/sex scenes.

I just finished reading a thriller called I Am Pilgrim. Very literary--good character development; in fact, excellent character development--with a strong plot. Now, I'm reading the latest Virgil Flowers book by John Sandford.

I'm listening to Dragon Blood by Patricia Briggs. I'm really sad that there are only two books in this series.

I'm currently reading The Patriot Threat by Steve Berry. His books are so fascinating with their combination of historical fact and fictitious political thriller. I love that at the end, he puts in a small section about what's truly fact and what's actually fiction. That fascinates me as well.

I've borrowed The Princess Bride from work, but I'm having trouble with all the "author notes" in it. I didn't enjoy it in Peter Pan and am totally not enjoying it now. I love the movie. I love the story, but I'm having trouble with all the "author notes".

I liked THE PATRIOT THREAT. Was a bit disappointed with THE LINCOLN MYTH last year, but though this was back to form.

Little Women was a favorite when I was a kid. It was one of my mom's favorites and she bought me a copy of it for my 8th birthday. I reread it every year for several years.

I just finished Prince Lestat by Anne Rice. While not up to the level of the other vampire chronicles, it did keep my interest so I finished it and somewhat understand why it was written.

I love Anne Rice, but I wasn't able to finish PRINCE LESTAT. I usually try to give a book at least 75 pages, but couldn't make that many with it.

I've been hitting e-freebies of the non-cozy genre, most of which I can get through in an hour or two. I have two Victoria Laurie Ghost Hunter Mysteries from the library, one of which I've started.

I've got four books from one library system awaiting pick-up, but they're all cozies. Plus, I found six cozies at another library system that I need to complete some series. My book-reading is set for the next month! I fill in with the freebies if I want/need a break.

Truth? No, not really. I know I'm on Book 10 But I always turn to this series to fulfill a challenge. There's so many characters and I can't keep them straight. However, I really do love Nalini Singh's "Guild Hunter" series.

Just finished Beauty and the Feast. It's been on my to-read list for a few years. it was a pretty good romance. It was also fairly spicy at times, but not too bad. I enjoyed the story and it was a really quick read. I am trying to go back and find older stuff from my list that I never read. I have so many books in my to read list and on my kindle that I get from the free list but have neglected to read.

I'm reading Queen Sugar by Natalie Baszile. I got the book because of the description and reviews. Now that I've read the author's bio, I realize that her sister and nephew are members of my church! It's not a common last name but one lives on the West Coast, the other on the East Coast. I'm relieved to say that so far it's a good story.

I'm reading The Haunting of Maddy Clare by Simone St. James. It's not the kind of thing I'd normally read--ghosts, malevolence, pretty graphic sex (necessary for storyline and characters, I think)--but it's extremely well done and I'm totally caught up in the story.

The Forgotten GardenThis is an intriguing book full of secrets, mysteries, false identities, all revolving around Blackhurst Manor and it's inhabitants in Cornwall, England. I think I've pretty much solved all of the mysteries and secrets, I'm interested in how everything came to pass and that's what is keeping me reading.

I just read a short story by Barbara Cool Lee called Home Improvement. It is a part of her Pajaro Bay series. It was a sweet really short story.
