Kimberly (kimberlywithat) | 2140 comments We should have a thread dedicated to the series...

message 3402: by Emily (new)

Emily I just finished The Hunger Games, I don't know...maybe it was too hyped up by the time I read it, but I didn't really like it. It reminded me too much of Lord of the Flies. I'm currently reading What Should I Do with My Life?: The True Story of People Who Answered the Ultimate Question, while interesting, I don't think it will help me answer that question for myself.

Rayna (Poindextrix) (poindextrix) | 59 comments Laarni/Kelly/Kimberly: I'm reading A Clash of Kings as well. I've had to take a bit of a break to focus on library books that are quickly approaching the overdue point, but I hope to get back to it soon so I can find out what happens!

I finally finished Glass by Sam Savage and have started Who Do, Voodoo? by Rochelle Staab. The first really bothered me. I like structure, you know paragraphs, chapters, plot, meaning, etc. Nothing like what I like to read. The second, while a bit fluffy, actually seems to be a story and so far has been enjoyable.

message 3405: by Kelly A. (new)

Kelly A. | 499 comments Kimberly - we definitely should! Daisy and I are trying to discuss the book on Twitter as we read through it, but the character limit is pretty restricting. My feelings cannot be contained in 140 characters! haha

I finished Who Do, Voodoo? by Rochelle Staab and started Ruth by Marlene Lewis.

message 3407: by Kayla (new)

Kayla | 604 comments I finished Darkness Becomes Her over the weekend. I'm currently reading The Bone People by Keri Hulme for a class (it's really good so far) and Call Me When You Land by Michael Schiavone, one of my first-reads wins (I have four others I haven't gotten to yet; I'm really falling behind on them but I hope to have them all read by the end of the year).

Lauren (bookworm1987) Finished The Best of Me loved it, now reading One for the Money

message 3410: by Sashana (last edited Nov 11, 2011 06:16AM) (new)

Sashana I enjoyed The Best of Me too, Lauren. Even though Nicholas Sparks continues to disappoint me with his endings.

I finished Ruth by Marlene Lewis and started Little Vampire Women by Lynn Messina. Ruth was good, not spectacular, but good. So far Little Vampire Women has been a disappointment. Haven't gotten very far in yet, so hopefully that will turn around.

I was soo mad at the end of this book, loved it, but UGH I AGREE!!

message 3413: by Annie (new)

Annie Hartman (anniebananie) | 242 comments Just finished Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children which was really a fun, quick read! And just started Cutting for Stone which has been sitting on my Kindle for a while now. Seems like a good read and I'm pretty sure Oprah gave it the go-ahead and as much as I hate to admit it, she picks some good stuff!

message 3418: by Veronica (last edited Nov 27, 2011 03:42PM) (new)

Veronica (parnassusreads) I just finished Brandon Sanderson's The Hero of Ages, and am currently reading Haruki Murakami's 1Q84. I just ordered N.K. Jemisin's The Kingdom of Gods and Jacqueline Carely's Saints Astray.

1Q84 is my serious, thought-provoking reading; the others are my I-don't-want-to-grade-papers light reading.

I've been very excited to finish the series. I can't wait to see what she does next. If you dig these books, you might like Jacqueline Carey's Kusheline Legacy series.

I tried the first one in that series, but somehow I couldn't get through it for some reason... Maybe I'll give it another try sometime :)

message 3423: by Rayna (new)

Rayna (Poindextrix) (poindextrix) | 59 comments I'm mainly reading Her Fearful Symmetry and Bill Warrington's Last Chance: A Novel and trying to fit in Super Sad True Love Story and A Clash of Kings so that I can move on in the series.

message 3424: by Ashley (new)

Ashley (readerandwriter) I am currently reading 3 books:

Clockwork Angel (The Infernal Devices #1) by Cassandra Clare , Chicken Soup for the Teacher's Soul Stories to Open the Hearts and Rekindle the Spirit of Educators by Jack Canfield , True Colors by Kristin Hannah

Kimberly (kimberlywithat) | 2140 comments Has anyone read 1Q84? It sounds interesting... I've never read any of Haruki Murakami, not really even heard the name. Apparently I've been living under a rock since he is referred to as "our most revered contemporary writers".

Murakami is one of my favorite authors. I haven't read 1Q84 yet, but I highly recommend The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle. That was my first book by him and it's one of my top five favorites of all-time.

Over the extended weekend, I finished Heart-Shaped Box, started and finished Another Piece of My Heart and started Carry the One.

I really liked it! It's set in the present, but has little side stories about people in different periods of time/cultures. It was interesting!

Nicki, I recommend The Boy in the Striped Pajamas.

Kelly A, I loved it! It was a bit bleh at the very beginning, but got soooooooo much better when Marianne came into the story.

Lori Walker I started Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close last night and am really liking it. I hope I actually finish (I'm so bad about abandoning books). I've got a pretty good sized pile of half-finished books I plan on finishing during a day after New Years readathon.

I also need to plan on a readathon sometime in the next week. I've really been slacking since I've been on break. I have at least five books I want to finish before I have to go back to school next weekend.

message 3447: by Lori (new)

Lori Walker I'm co-hosting a readathon that runs through tomorrow and Monday. Informal. We're tweeting about our progress and I'll probably write on long progress report at the end of the day for my blog.

message 3448: by Ashley (new)

Ashley | 61 comments Leila: Jane Eyre is coming up on my list. I love that book.

I've just started reading Emma after finishing a bunch of Christmas themed books. I'm excited, one of the few Jane Austen novels I haven't read yet.

Lori Walker I finished reading Joy in the Morning, which I started over the summer and finally finished. I'm almost done with How to Be Lovely: The Audrey Hepburn Way of Life. Then I don't know what I'll read. Perhaps finish Washington Square.
