I just started Outlander. . .in my defense I didn't know that it was historical ROMANCE! But I have to admit I'm hooked, even if I do have to hide it from my mom :-)

Out of the books I've read recently, Divergent really stands out. Hands down one of the most amazing books I've read.
The other day I started reading Suite Française. It feels like it's been on my to-read list forever! This morning I just started reading Crank.
I'm reading
and I'm a ball of emotions. My heart is breaking, my temper is flaring, I'm disgusted by the prejudice and hypocrisy, and crossing my fingers for the main characters.
I read the help earlier this year, it's a really good read. It's really insightful about the day to day going ons in that time. I can't wait for the movie to come out.

I just started and finished The Lover's Dictionary. I have to say, it was exactly what I expected it to be. It was sweet, novel, a tiny bit heartbreaking, and relatively realistic. It was not exactly breathtaking or memorable, but it was an enjoyable quick read, even if it was self-consciously artsy every now and then. If you're in the mood for something light but not silly, I'd recommend it. I just started The Eyre Affair. I'm only 30 pages in, so I don't really know what to expect yet. I'm not usually a fan of mysteries, but since this is mixed with science fiction and literature, I figured I should give it a try. Besides, I just read Jane Eyre recently, so it seemed fitting.
I am still in the middle of The Virgin in the Garden. It is a pretty slow-moving book so far, but since it's one of her first I think I can forgive her for that and try to enjoy it anyway. It does have some of her better qualities as well, like good characters and an extremely convincing setting. Still, I'm hoping I can make myself get through it within the next month or so before I have to go back home.
I am still in the very beginning of Ain't I a Woman: Black Women and Feminism. It's a good book so far, and very enlightening, but I'm just a bit weighed down right now, so I'm not really up for too many heavy reads at the moment. Hopefully I'll have a good day where I can just jump in and make some serious progress.
Up next: Dune by Frank Herbert, Bloodchild and Other Stories by Octavia Butler, The Four Quartets by T.S. Eliot, A Visit from the Goon Squad by Jennifer Egan, My Mother She Killed Me, My Father He Ate Me edited by Kate Bernheimer, and Their Eyes Were Watching God by Zora Neale Hurston.
I started This Common Secret: My Journey as an Abortion Doctor last night. Seems like it should be an interesting read. I love that it provides facts and statistics at the beginning of each chapter. I have a bad habit of not being able to stick to a book after I finish one I really loved and I was really into I Know This Much Is True. So we shall see!
I just started reading The White Road, it's the fifth in Nightrunners series. And I'm still trying to finish The A-List.
I'm reading The Thirteenth Tale which means I'm a couple years behind the rest of the reading world. It's pretty good. I was in love with the first one hundred pages, but as I keep reading, it gets closer and closer to mediocre.
Anna wrote: "I've nearly finished Julie and Julia: 365 Days, 524 Recipes, 1 Tiny Apartment Kitchen. It's entertaining but also quite disgusting- I'm vegetarian and she eats a LOT of meat!"I've been dying to see this movie but I hate seeing movies before reading the book- is it worth the read?
Anna wrote: "I've nearly finished Julie and Julia: 365 Days, 524 Recipes, 1 Tiny Apartment Kitchen. It's entertaining but also quite disgusting- I'm vegetarian and she eats a LOT of meat!"Ya... I guess that after she wrote that, she got really into butchering meats and stuff like that. My mom isn't a vegetarian but she was grossed out by her later book.
I'v just finished Dash & Lily's Book of Dares and getting right on to the last book of the Hunger Games serie: Mockingjay which I finally got to read now and not sooner because of my student-exchange programme in Shanghai^^
I'm working on my usual reread of all of the Harry Potter books. I got a late start, so hopefully I'll have enough time to read them all.
Just started Goblet of Fire. Reading them backwards is so interesting. I am picking up on more things than ever before.
Just recently started Snow Flower and the Secret Fan. I've been busy the past few days so I'm not too far into it yet.
Tami wrote: "Just started Goblet of Fire. Reading them backwards is so interesting. I am picking up on more things than ever before."hehe, told you so. ;)
Just got finished with Middlesex which I loved, and I'm onto American Pastoral now. I'm about 70% done with it, and I'm pretty much just forcing myself to finish it right now because I've read so much of it. Can't say I'm a fan.
Michelle wrote: "Just got finished with Middlesex which I loved, and I'm onto American Pastoral now. I'm about 70% done with it, and I'm pretty much just forcing myself to finish it right n..."Michelle, I am so happy to see you enjoyed Middlesex! It is one of my absolute favorites!
Jen wrote: "Just recently started Snow Flower and the Secret Fan. I've been busy the past few days so I'm not too far into it yet."Let me know what you think of that, I've picked it up several times but never actually initiated anything.
I just finished one of my first-reads wins, The Time It Snowed in Puerto Rico. The author sent some island treats (coconut bars, sesame seed bars, coconut water) as well as printed recipes of meals mentioned in the book and a C.D. of Spanish Children's Songs. It put me in a good mood for the book, which I'm sure was the author's intention :)I thought it was a really good coming-of-age novel, and I loved the descriptions of Puerto Rico. It made a great beach read.
Today I started Between Shades of Gray. I'm only 30 pages in so I can't say much about it, but so far I'm liking it.
Just finished Flowers for Algernon which is filled with sadness that never lets up; I enjoyed reading it anyhow.
Just started Neverwhere. It is quite a visual read. So far I like the concept but feel like Gaiman doesn't do much with it - kind of like Stardust.

Valerie, my mom just bought books 1-4 at Costco. She said she wanted to reread them. I don't think I have ever read them, so I will start when she finishes.
Over the weekend, I finished Goblet of Fire, started and finished Prisoner of Azkaban and started Chamber of Secrets. I am loving the whole read the series backwards thing.
I also like the fact that the first 2 books are smaller, because some of my giveaway wins came this weekend, and I really want to get started. :)

I just finished "Handle with Care" by Jodi Picoult. I am now going to read Colors of Freedom by Michelle Isenhoff and 2 other of her books. I also need to continue with "Throne of Fire" by Rick Riordan
I finished The Thirteenth Tale the other day. I loved the beginning and liked the end. The middle was just eh. I just started The Handmaid's Tale, and I was assigned Daisy Miller for an American literature survey class.
Jennifer, I just finished The Handmaid's Tale a few days ago and it was AMAZING. It's one of my new favorites. I hope you like it as much as I did!
That's really good to hear! I'm excited to read it. I looked for this book at four different libraries and finally found it at the fourth. I didn't think it would be a hard one to find, but I use small libraries.
I just finished Shadowfever and The Road. I loved both of them, although they are VERY different. I just began reading Dead and Gone, The Gargoyle and The Zombie Survival Guide: Complete Protection From the Living Dead.
I finished Daisy Miller and really liked it. I scheduled it for two days, but I liked it so much I went ahead and finished it! That means I'm ahead of schedule.
Richard wrote: "I've finished The Peach Keeper and Mockingjay and am about to start The Vagina Monologues."What did you think of The Peach Keeper? I've been wanting to read that for some time.
Myriam, I love the Gargoyle. Just make sure you give it at least 4 or 5 chapters before giving up. I have some friends that I told that too, and it was the only reason they finished the book.
I am on the last Harry Potter, or the first, since I started with book 7. Then on to the giveaways that I have won that have started coming in.

I finally finished a book! I read Graham Greene's Our Man in Havana. It was really good and funny. I can't wait to read more by him.
Tami, don't worry, I usually go through the whole book even if I don't get caught in the first chapters! Sometimes, I discover great books, like The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. I had a hard time going through the first half on the book, but it ended up being one of my favorite books ever. Thanks for the tip, however! ^^
I finished the Sorcerers Stone last night and started Envy by Gregg Olsen. It was goodreads giveaways win. So far so good.
That is good to know Myriam. I loved both the Dragon Tattoo and Gargoyle. Hope you do too.

Tami, I haven't read Envy but I loved his book
A Wicked Snow. Let me know what you think of Envy.
I only have about 20 more pages. It is good. I was expecting it to be a bit more sinister, but again, I haven't completely finished.
Will finish today and plan to start An African Affair: A Novel by Nina Darnton. The next in line in my wins I have received.

I finished Envy during lunch. It was good. Not near as predictable as ya usually is, and I enjoyed the differences of its characters than normal ya fare too.
Started An African Affair: A Novel but am only about 30 pages in.

I've started Alias Grace. I still plan to read The Handmaid's Tale, but I'm gonna read Grace first. I've wanted to read both forever! I'm also reading The Yellow Wallpaper for class, just the short story. I'm pretty excited to write about it because I've read it several times. There's something about writing that makes me think on a deeper level; I really like that. I don't think like that if I don't have to write about a book.
Jennifer wrote: "I've started Alias Grace. I still plan to read The Handmaid's Tale, but I'm gonna read Grace first. I've wanted to read both forever! I'm also reading [book:The Yellow Wal..."I have been meaning to read the Handmaid's Tale, it sounds like a good book. I am currently reading Outside In.
I just finished The Gargoyle, I absolutely fell in love with it! Tami: I personally loved the first chapters! I'm starting Black Ties and Lullabies, I won the giveaway and I received the book on Friday...
Myriam, I am so glad you liked it. I loved the book and wish he would come out with something else.
Carolina, what do you think of Harry Potter so far? I'm always envious of those who are reading it for the first time.
I finished all my giveaways wins that I have received, so I started The Kitchen House by Kathleen Grissom last night. I am not that far into it, but so far I both like the book and hate a few characters and themes. :) Wierd!
