What Did You Finish Reading/What Are You Currently Reading?
Tara - please give Jane Eyre another chance! It's one of my favourite books and like you mentioned, it could be the assigned part of the reading that you hated. How did you like the Chronicles of Narnia?
Tara wrote: "I'm going to start Frankenstein this weekend and hopefully The Lost Hero and/or Gods Behaving Badly sometime soon"I'd stay away from Gods Behaving Badly. I love Greek & Roman mythology and modern books about it, but this one is all about sex and it's absolutely ridiculous. I agree about Jane Eyre, I read it recently and loved it.
I just finished Olive Kitteridge and now I'm tearing through Tall Dark and Dead (read 175 pages since starting last night). I definitely needed something fluffy and fun after some of the *heavy* stuff I've been reading. I totally agree about Jane Eyre. If you didn't like it in HS I'd say give it another shot. I think its a great book for a rainy day, especially if you have a warm beverage to sip!
Finished Tall Dark and Dead today. Now I have to choose what I'm going to read next... I wanted to join in on the discussion of The Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie but I find that my library has a wait-list for it... so I probably wouldn't get it within the month. I'm choosing between a few I have earmarked at the moment... tough decisions.
Just finished 'The Waves' - Virginia Woolf and will be reading Jacob's Room, also by Woolf in between rereading Heart of Darkness by Conrad and Dubliners by Joyce.
Finally finished Forever in Her Dreams and started Journal of a UFO Investigator: A Novel my latest Goodreads Giveaways I have received. So far, it is really fun.
I decided to read Sharpe's Eagle in lieu of not finding The Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie. This is the second in the Richard Sharpe series, which I have loved since seeing some of the movies with Sean Bean. The books are a bit different but I really enjoy the various characters' inner monologues. I may be nursing a slight crush on Sharpe, too.... Happy Valentines!
Last book I finished was Ishmael by Daniel Quinn and now I'm reading The Heretic Queen by Michelle Moran. If any of you enjoyed Memoirs of a Geisha or The Other Boleyn Girl, then you'll love this book! I started it yesterday morning and i'm already 143 pages in!
Daniel wrote: "Just finished 'The Waves' - Virginia Woolf and will be reading Jacob's Room, also by Woolf in between rereading Heart of Darkness by Conrad and Dubliners by Joyce."Whoa. That's a lot of classics at once. I'm not sure I could handle that. Hope you're enjoying them!

I barely read anything contemporary; sucker for the modernist era.
As I just finished school recently, I jumped over to the light and fun books to give my brain a break. I just finished "Fool" by Christopher Moore - which I loved! I am now re-reading "Bloodsucking Fiends" (Moore), before starting "You Suck" (Moore).
As my fun read I just finished
and I loved it. But I really love his books and movies that have been made out of them. Highly recommend if someone wants a fluffy easy read :)
I finished Journal of a UFO Investigator: A Novel late last night and it was really well written and a fun read.
Received Friendship Bread: A Novel yesterday in the mail, so am planning on starting that today.
I love getting free books! Plus, this one has recipes in it!

I just started reading Where I Belong this afternoon. It's pretty much a riches to rags story: a teenage girl has rich parents and a designer shopping habit and then her dad loses his job and all of their savings during the recession.I also finally started reading Pride and Prejudice the other night. I think one will be read at a much slower pace though.
I have to start the Communist Manifesto and Madame Bovary for class... We just finished Frankenstein (I still need to finish that one too...)<3
I finished Sharpe's Eagle last night and started The Girl Who Played With Fire. I'm already 100 pages in! This one definitely picks up faster that The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo...
I started A Thousand Splendid Suns tonight. It's already really sad. I'm sure a lot of you have read it (since everybody but me seems to have already): how did you like it?
Just finished Uglies. And I have 3 books that I planned to read next, but I'm dying to start the next book in the series, Pretties!
Sonja wrote: "I finished Sharpe's Eagle last night and started The Girl Who Played With Fire. I'm already 100 pages in! This one definitely picks up faster that [book:The Girl With T..."Sonja, how was Sharpe's Eagles? I've thought about reading that series. I quite like the TV series. (Though that's partially because I find it funny in all the wrong places...)
I finished reading Amy & Roger's Epic Detour last night. I think it's my favorite road trip book I've ever read. So good! This morning I started Will Grayson, Will Grayson. I'm only on chapter 1 but so far I'm loving the characters!
Daisy wrote: "I started A Thousand Splendid Suns tonight. It's already really sad. I'm sure a lot of you have read it (since everybody but me seems to have already): how did you like it?"I loved that book. I thought it was soo good!
Just started American Gods by Neil Gaiman.
Anna wrote: "Just finished Fahrenheit 451 and I've started Never Let Me Go. I want to read the book before I see the film!"Anna, I read the book and then saw the film (assuming you're talking about Never Let Me Go). The book was a slow start but after the first fifty pages or so it really picks up and I ended up enjoying it very much. The film, on the other hand, wasn't so great! Definitely recommend the book over the film, in any case!
I finished Freindship Bread which was really good, and now am about half way through The Complaints. It has been great so far too. Love it when I like the free books!
I just finished The Rise of the Creative Class: And How It's Transforming Work, Leisure, Community and Everyday Life, and it was a really, really interesting read. Especially for people who wish to engage in creative careers or are interested in sociology, economics, etc.
Just finished Across the Universe (which was GREAT!) and Notes from a Small Island (love Bill Bryson, he's hilarious) and am now starting I'm a Stranger Here Myself: Notes on Returning to America After 20 Years Away (told you I love Bill Bryson!) and The Life of Elizabeth I (she's a total badass.)
I just finished The Particular Sadness of Lemon Cake, and I really enjoyed it. I'll have a real review up soon. I also read Of Mice and Men, which was wonderful. I'm about to start Jane Eyre. I'm super excited, even if my American Lit teacher totally spoiled the hell out of it for me.
I read Ash over the weekend and started The Confession last night. Ash was an interesting take on the story of Cinderella.
I finally finished "Last Sacrifice" by Richelle Mead. I'm continuing with "Chicken Soup for the Soul:Teacher Tales" by Jack Canfield and I've started "The Lost Hero" by Rick Riordan.
I just finished I Capture the Castle and really liked it overall, although the father in the book drove me crazy at times! Now I'm trying to decide what to read next...I'm debating between two classics (Emma and A Tale of Two Cities) or a frothy teen read -The Luxe.
Ooh! I'd recommend Emma! I really love that book. Didn't care much for the Luxe, though I've heard many people who did enjoy it.
Daisy, I am completely opposite, I didn't like Emma but I enjoyed the Luxe, not the best book ever by any means, but I liked it more than Emma.
Daisy wrote: "I finished Wither, I loved it :) I'm currently reading Outside In."I LOVED Outside In! I like all of the books by that author. You'll have to let me know what you think!
Kimberly - She's one of the authors I automatically read any book of, without checking the summary. I really liked Outside In, but less than Inside Out. She has a new series coming out in 2012, the first book Touch of Power sounds really interesting.
WAIT! I totally read that title wrong. How did you get a hold of the second book already???And, ya. I'm the same way with Maria's books. :)

I got it as an ARC through NetGalley :) And it's supposed to be out since February 22nd.
You are so lucky! And I'll have to check B&N, for some reason I thought it had a March release date.
I finished Four Fish: The Future of the Last Wild Food and am starting How I Killed Pluto and Why It Had It Coming. Super excited to read this one.
I'm reading Castle Waiting by Linda Medley right now and it is AH-mazing! I think everyone in the world should read this one.
Just finished The Weed That Strings the Hangman's Bag, which was okay. I'm currently in an ancient Greece mood, so I'm reading Selected Satires of Lucian and Tales of the Greek Heroes.

Now I'm reading Mere Christianity. I'm going to start Frankenstein this weekend and hopefully The Lost Hero and/or Gods Behaving Badly sometime soon!
I saw someone mention Jane Eyre. I've only read that once - as an assigned high school reading no less - and hated it, probably for that reason. I'd love to give it another go sometime soon as well! The "to-read" list grows exponentially!
