Anna Lee Ok, so I read through the WHOLE dang series and all I could think about the whole time was how much time I was wasting reading these. (My brother and I were having a book war) Anyway, why is everyone obsessed with these books? They kinda suck. The whole idea of Percy being "half god" is poorly executed and unbelievable. Please comment below.

Autumn-Rain simple. four words: willing suspension of disbelief.

Sophia The series is kinda like a pick-me-up; a very fast read with a lot of actions scenes and it does a very good job of doing that. I thought they were wonderful...

Torie So far, I've read the first 3 books, and I enjoyed them so much! I found them quite easy to read, and Rick Riordan did a fantastic job of using Greek Mythology to interest modern-day kids, with hilarious dialogue, unpredictable chapter titles, and overall nicely-flowing writing.
That's my opinion, anyway.

Anna Lee ehhhh............
I've read so many better books.
No offense.

Emily i love these books cant wait till rick riordan publishes a book to tell us where percy is

Sophia @ Anna Lee: Yes, there are better books...many of them, but that doesn't make this series bad.

Well first of all...that's your opinion...so you really can't listen to anyone else because nobody can change what you think. Lol. I personally like this series. It doesn't mean you have to like it. It just has to do with the type of things you like to read.

Juliet I loved these series and the idea of a half-god wasn't all that unbelievable to me because I love reading Greek myths, and I think a lot of people shared that passion and they liked hearing the modern version of their favorite myths.

MizziQ OF COURSE ITS UNBELIEVABLE! It's talking about greek/roman MYTHS!

Natalie loves Orlando Bloom! this was a great book, how r u not obsessd?!?!

Natalie wrote: "this was a great book, how r u not obsessd?!?!"

My point exactly. Ya see, that's your opinion and that's her opinion.

Natalie loves Orlando Bloom! thank you!finally,som1 who understands!

Anna Lee haha. I was hoping to get some people who actually agreed with me. That's funny.
Oh, and the kind of books I like to read are more adult books and teen books. This for me was a tween book/children's book, I felt like I was an adult looking back on a son's stories when he was 10. For me, it was ssssssllllllllooooooooooowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww......
*yawn*
I learned about myths in 4th grade, so I already know EVERYTHING. Maybe that's one of the reasons.
Personally, I thought it was dumb, but hey, that's my opinion.

Cheryl Quick, exciting, funny - some interesting explorations of loyalty, power, friendship, adolescence.... But, not the richest or most thought-provoking books I've ever read, either.

Oh, and while I agree mostly with you, Anna Lee, what you learned about myths in 4th grade was only the surface. A chart of the gods and their family trees and their powers & domains is one thing, but learning all their guises, all the ways their stories have been told and re-told over the millenia and around the world, would take more a lifetime of scholarly activity.

Kaylee I didn't read the whole series just the first one and i thought it was really good!!!!
It just seems People like the books!!

message 17: by [deleted user] (new)

uhhhh, its 1 of the best series ever, derrrrrrrr

Madeline yeah!!!!!

Juliet lol, true dat!^^

Anna Lee @ Cheryl..... good point.
buuuuuuuut.... I still don't like. They're OK, the first one was my favorite. The sea on monsters was the worst. I still don't like the series....but ok.

Kerri It's nice to have books that boys can get into--it seems the publishing business has been appealing to the 12-18 year old girls demographic for a very long time. I'm glad they exist because for at least awhile my nephew was reading. They are a fun fast read. I got burnt out by the fourth one.

Sarah I read every single book and I loved it! Thing is if you study the gods before you read it, it helps alot! Some people have different taste. It's ok if you don't like it, it just might not be your book!:)

Anna Lee Might have been better if they didn't make so many......

Juliet Anna Lee wrote: "Might have been better if they didn't make so many......"

They had to continue the series until Percy turned 16 otherwise the prophecy wouldn't be fulfilled. I don't think it was too long, I think 5 is a good length for a series.

Jamie M. Anna Lee wrote: "Ok, so I read through the WHOLE dang series and all I could think about the whole time was how much time I was wasting reading these. (My brother and I were having a book war) Anyway, why is everyo..."

Unbelievable? Its fiction. i'm not saying you have to like it, and personaly, i love them. So what books do you like?

Anna Lee I like The Hunger Games, Plain Truth, My sister's keeper, Nineteen Minutes, Hush Hush, The dark divine, Fallen, Shiver, Linger.........

Lindsey Well, everyone has there own likes and dislikes. But I LOVE these books. They are the best books ever. And it's like, fiction. That means it's going to be not like real life. I liked them, but if you don't that's ok.

Jamie M. Anna Lee wrote: "I like The Hunger Games, Plain Truth, My sister's keeper, Nineteen Minutes, Hush Hush, The dark divine, Fallen, Shiver, Linger........."

i hate them

Kaylynn They are an escape from reality, The second book the sea of monsters is actually based on Jason and the Argonauts, and I like that there are bits of other stories(Greek myths) intertwined in them. I didn't ever think of the Greek heroes as possibly knowing one another but I liked the interaction between characters.

Krista There so adventurous and every single chapter there is something new and exciting.

shiver and hunger games r awesome though percy jackson isnt exactly YA i tought they were good they got me hooked and event though i'm a lil 2 old 4 them i love them i love the humor, action, suspense, myths all jumbled up 2gether it was awsome in my opinion and rick riordan executed them very well i tink u didnt like 'em cuz ur into way more mature boks

message 36: by [deleted user] (new)

They're a little childish, but I'm really into mythology and I thought the myths were used pretty cleverly here. Like, re-characterizing the gods into their modern counterparts? It tickled my fancy, let's say.

Yes! My books are on more mature levels like court cases and murders.

Anna Lee @ Jamie: *high-five*

Andy Norris I have read the first book and I am hooked...it is the willing to suspend the belief...kinda like what happens when you read Harry Potter or Twilight...You need to not think and image the words coming off the pages.

Tim Anna Lee wrote: "... the kind of books I like to read are more adult books and teen books. This for me was a tween book/children..."

Perhaps that explains why you didn't like it. You may not be the 'target audience'. My kids and their friends have been reading these and loving them, and they are all around 9-11 years old. I read one of them, and it was clear it was not written for someone of my ... umm ... experience.

Over the years I've re-read a number of books that I *loved* as a kid, and in hindsight thought they were mediocre, or even kind of stupid. Age (oops, I meant 'experience') definitely affects one's perception of a book. If a reader is not in the target age group, he or she should not expect to like it as much as those for whom it was written.

Yasmeen i agree with Tim..when i read it i was 12 and well i really liked the series..it seemed different than the rest in a way where there is a camp and demigods..i still like it and yes i read The Lost Hero, it did get boring at one point though..so yeah..

Anna Lee @ tim. Amen. That's exactly what I thought:D It seems that mostly young adult books are slower, teen books are great and so are adult. I don't know.....but its weird reading young adult. It just feels like something is off.

Sᴀᴅɪʏᴀ r u saying PJO is young adult? cuz its not its like older kids lower teens boks like shiver, hunger games, divergent, mortal instruments and stuff r young adult
i like young adult theyre but not 2 mature tat they get off track a lot and r perfectly paced well tats the case with all the YA boks i red i gess i'm good at picking good boks lol jk jk

Anna Lee what? Yes, Percy Jackson is young adult, for tweens. Shiver, Linger, and The Hunger Games are more teen books 13+. Plain Truth, My Sister's Keeper, and Nineteen Minutes are more 16+. But hey.....I'm 14 and I read them:D

Sᴀᴅɪʏᴀ haha i'm 14 too and i reed james patterson adult boks sorta i hav 'em no time 2 get to them yet

Readsalot1011 Loved this book.
