Can someone please tell me why you are starting a discussion for a series you clearly don't like? THAT seems like a waste of time to me.

Kristen I like percy jackson books cuz they're AWESOME, James Patterson books and the Hunger games are good too though.

Um...because I wanted to voice my opinion. Is that a problem?
Calm yourself.

Alana I love greek mythology and already knew a lot about it when I first read the series. I liked it because it put a funny, modern twist on the timeless stories of greek mythology... not to mention the awesome storyline itself...

Oh No Im not gonna let you talk about me like that. For your informatoin the ONLY books from that list you made that I read was the Hunger Games series because everyone I knew read them, so there. I read books by Jodi Picoult which are very mature books about things that actuallyt happen in real life and most people dont really think about it.

No I wont take back the comment about maturity because odviously nobody can be nice to anyone else if they dislike a book someone else loves...its kinda pathetic not everyone can like the same books and I understand WHY people would read this book. I was only stating my opinion that if just seems more approprate for a younger audience. Whatever, bash me Im sure you or someone else will find something bad to say about me, but the cold hard truth is that I don't know you so frankly, its hard for me to care at all about your opinion of me. So sorry.

AnnaLee: Maybe it was a bad idea to tell me about this disscussion...you know?

message 311: by [deleted user] (new)

Sorry about the comment, its just yeah.
Its not that it hurt my feelings I was just caught up in the moment sooo, sorry about that.

Sᴀᴅɪʏᴀ ok we're both sorry. Are we good now?

message 313: by [deleted user] (new)

Yeah, we're good(=

Sᴀᴅɪʏᴀ yeah very true Kimberly, but i find if it weren't for books and fake characters it would be hard on a lot of people like me to escape this world when it gets annoying (do not take offense from that) =D

Anna Lee Wow. You had an argument WITHOUT me?
Is that even possible?

Schai- I hate to see it when you get
really mad. Dang girl. I'm glad your always
going to be on my side forever and ever.
<3
Right?
jkjk

Will- What the heck is that supposed to mean?

I'm good now too but I'm NOT a sexist.
I went to a school before that was like that.
They always let the GUYS to everything.
:(
But then I came to Public school and met Schai
:)
That was the best dicission I made in my entire life.
Awwww......

Marta Morrison I am having a hard time with these comments. You like what you like and dislike what you dislike. I love to read and I hate to play sports. In most of America I would be an oddball. I read Percy to my fifth graders every year. This book has jump started a lot of them into being readers. I have read the entire series and have loved them. I also read many adult novels, sci fiction, magical realism, fantasy, realistic fiction, etc. I don't think you have to be of a certain age to enjoy a certain book. When my own children were younger I enjoyed all over again picture books. Just read and enjoy what you want. You don't have to question why someone else likes something you don't like.

Chey Cause they're amazing! I guess we're all different and we like different books, but I don't know how you can not like these! They're my all time favorite series! :) <3

message 320: by Matika (new) - rated it 5 stars

Matika I think that these books are meant to be fun and exciting; far from serious or dramatic. I'm 18 and I enjoyed the series because it was a welcome escape from busy college life. I'd often read in place of doing homework lol. I found it easy to get involved in the characters because they reminded me of real kids. Each book is one of my favorites having read them.

message 321: by Chad (new) - rated it 3 stars

Chad I find that it is annoying that Rick Riordan is trying to make more series about Percy. Also, books on Egyptian mythology. I used to like the series, but that ruined it for me.

Sᴀᴅɪʏᴀ Chad wrote: "I find that it is annoying that Rick Riordan is trying to make more series about Percy. Also, books on Egyptian mythology. I used to like the series, but that ruined it for me."

it's not about Percy entirly and i think its a neat way to intoduce the Roman mythology ((thought i think that they have lame names. Jupiter? Mercury? Pluto? Seriously? Pluto? I can't think of a more childish sounding name for the god of th underworld.

message 323: by Sarah (new) - rated it 5 stars

Sarah They're good books. But everyone has their different taste. If you don't like mythology, maybe those types of books aren't for you.

Erin-Yvonne I'm not obsessd with these books or any other books for that matter. I've got better things to be obsessed about, like my husband and my kids. I started reading this book to my children, but they weren't interested, so I finished it myself and no it wasn't a great read, but it was entertaining enough for me to finish and I'm thinking about reading the second book. I didn't grow up reading books unless my teachers made me, so I feel like I'm reading what I missed as a much younger person. If I was a 10 year old I would love this book and would be very excited to read the next. We all have our opinions and as long as your happy with your own what else matters.

message 325: by Anna (new) - rated it 4 stars

Anna I taught these books as a novel study to my 7th graders. My 12 & 13 year old students were very engaged, and I never got tired of the books, even though I listened to them on audio tape over and over again throughout the day with different class periods. I just enjoyed watching the differing reactions of my students.

The Percy Jackson books are great because it's about an ordinary kid who is dealing with hardships in life--single parent home, crazy step-dad, feeling out of step with his peers--and then he finds out there's a reason he is so different. Most kids can identify with feeling alienated in a group setting.

The books are action filled and funny and suspenseful at times. There are mysteries to figure out. And as you read, you learn about the Greek pantheon.

As a mom, grandmother, and teacher, I give these books an A+.

message 326: by Julie (new) - rated it 5 stars

Julie Let's keep things in perspective here these books are targeted for ages 9-12 people. They just have to capture the imagination of young kids, and as a parent it was fun series to read with my son.

Sαmαnthα I thought the movie was better...Is that wrong?

Shiropa oh my god. th pj books and th next series-heroes of olympus- r like THE BEST. srsly, rick riordan is my faaaave author. i mean, how can he even come up with these ideas? they r fantastic!!!!!!!! =D =D =D

Zach when i first read these i liked them so much, but then rick riordan made 2 more books with mythology and i was annoyed.

Lea (Peeta's #1 Fangirl!) I didn't like The Red Pyrimid. The characters were too confusing and pretty much EVERYTHING was confusing.....

rupinl Lea wrote: "I didn't like The Red Pyrimid. The characters were too confusing and pretty much EVERYTHING was confusing....."

I disagree... The confusing part is the good part. Thats what makes a book... as soon as you read the second... it gets better... trust me.. SO MUCH BETTER

Lea (Peeta's #1 Fangirl!) Well I've got no interest in reading the second...Like the whole part with that funeral guy??..what?? I just didn't understand it...barely any of it!

It doesn't have to be believable! It's fiction!

thank you.

yep! If you want it to be realistic, go read realistic fiction, or a memoir, or something.

Lea (Peeta's #1 Fangirl!) I don't like "real" books..

Apollinaria Fowl Lea wrote: "I don't like "real" books.."

I like some realistic fiction.

Lea (Peeta's #1 Fangirl!) Like I sometimes like some books that are like that but I realized that books I really really like take place in a setting that is in another time (futureistic places)

Apollinaria Fowl (I love fantasy)

Stephanie I thought it was funny and had plenty of action, also a quick read. Borrowed these from the Library at the time and finish the whole series in less than a week. I also loved the Lost Hero book.
