The correlation between liking the main character and the book definitely makes sense. Hannah's the key which brings it all together. I love how everyone responds differently to characters! : ) I also read Year of Wonders by this author which was another 3* for me. I'd like to give her non-fiction Nine Parts of Desire: The Hidden World of Islamic Women a try.
I finished The Lost World which was a little disappointing. I expected more since I liked Jurassic Park so much.I'm just now starting The Iron King

I read Years of wonder too and liked it too but prefer the other one more. I am also curious to her non-fiction writing. I have high hopes of them after reading her fiction :-)
i'm so behind in my reading, it's sad.i started The Other Boleyn Girl but stopped around page 225. it was good, but too close to Harlequin romance style for my liking. i'll go back to it at some point, but not just now.
i also started One of Our Thursdays is Missing, the next book in the Thursday Next series. it's good, but i haven't had much time to devote to it.
i'm supposed to read The Geography of Bliss by Monday for my library book group, but i'm not so sure that's going to happen.
maybe i should go read instead of being on the computer....
Allison wrote: "I finished Room last night, and loved it. Today I'm starting A Visit from the Goon Squad. :)"Awesome books! I loved both of them. :)
Finished The Circle Trilogy: The Complete Trilogy in One Epic Edition.Started Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone this morning. I can't believe that I haven't read this yet.
i finished the forgotten garden by kate morton last night, and loved it. it reminded me a lot of the thirteenth tale by diane setterfield, which is also a great book (i probably liked the thirteenth tale better, but the forgotten garden was wonderful too).
now i'm starting the sweetness at the bottom of the pie, the first book in the "flavia de luce" mystery series.
i'm also starting house of leaves by mark z. danielewski.
Lauren I loved all three of those books! House of Leave is definitely a different read though!I'm currently reading Room by Emma Donoghue. Disturbing but good.
I just finished The Help, which was completely amazing. Definitely going on my list of favorite books, ever. If you haven't read it yet, get to it! :) Now I'm back to reading A Visit from the Goon Squad.

Glad to hear you liked them so much, Cate! :)
I just finished Jane Eyre and loved it. Definitely one of my favorite books ever. I can't believe I had never read this before. Next up is Mockingjay whicn I'm really looking forward to. One of my co-workers said she didn't like it as well as the first two. Any opinions on this book?
Also, has anyone read Wide Sargasso Sea? Now that I've read Jane Eyre, I'm thinking of reading this, which is supposedly a prequel to J.E. Thanks!
Can't remember if I saw the movie or read the book or both but it will give you a different perspective on Mr. Rochester!
I'm about half through Four to Score by Janet Evanovich. Hoping to finish it tomorrow and then I'll start on Mama Flora's Family by Alex Haley and David Stevens.

Mockingjay wasn't as good as the first two at the end. And there are definitely some things that are WTF moments, that I was super pissed about, but mostly it was the ending that made it fall short of the bar that the first two set. Still, amazing though. I've read it twice and made my best friend read it as well.
I recently read 'Coming Home' by Tori Bailey. It was a great read that will keep you intered from beginning to end.
I finished The Iron King and was rather disappointed. I thought it was very unoriginal.I think I'm now gonna re-read Inferno. I could use a bit of fun after that last read.
I just finished "The Orchard" by Jeff Stepakoff and reviewed it here: http://wp.me/p1CKWU-2INow, I'm reading The Devil Colony by James Rollins book and Nowhere To Go by Iain Rowan on nook.
"Room" is a great book. And "Jane Eyre" -- my ultimate favorite.
I just finished Messenger of Truth. The mystery part was good, but as this series progresses, there are more and more psychic-type moments. I'm just not comfortable with that sort of thing and I think I'm going to have to give the series up. But if you're OK with the psychic thing, the Maisie Dobbs series is really well written and I recommend it.

The Devil Colony is out now? I pre-ordered it on my nook and can't download it yet.

I'm liking it so far. I had no idea that there was a sequel.

It's actually a trilogy but I haven't heard much about the 3rd one. Thought I'd read this one and decide if I'll go on to the next one. : )

A Visit from the Goon Squad is next on my lisi. It has had great reviews.
Started the book that was chosen this year in Dublin for 'One city, one book' Ghost Light. Finally I also started reading Notes from an Exhibition. Was afraid it was going to be on those long feeling, boring stories but I am really into it.

I hope you enjoy it! :) I just finished it, and it's very good. There's lots of good discussion happening on the Goodreads book club challenge page for the book, so check that out once you start reading. :)
Susanna wrote: "So, finally starting Great Expectations, my first Dickens."Susanna, I really hope you enjoy this classic. I feel that this book is well worth the time to read.
This weekend I started reading, Sea Escape: A Novel & I am listening to, Softly and Tenderly. I am enjoying both.
Starting Vanity Fair and The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay. Susanna, I hope you like Great Expectations. I certainly enjoyed it!
I finished all but one of the books I was reading:
and enjoyed them all. Now, to finish
and start
. Gotta pick a new audio, too--maybe
which I'm reading for a summer challenge.
I'm bouncing between 3 of them at the moment: Called Home: Two Hearts Answer
The Timeless Counselor: The Best Guide to a Successful Psychic Reading
and still listening to:
Moloka'i.
I've just started "The Ring of Solomon" by Jonathan Stroud...Bartimaeus never fails to entertain me.I'm also reading "Last Night I Sang to the Monster by Benjamin Alire Sáenz on my Kindle...disturbing but also very good.

Brooks' book is great! Did you..."
Oh, that is a pity. I start to think it all depends on if you like Hannah or not, to end it with a good feeling or not. Because when I hear people say they didn't think it was a great book, Hannah is the reason. I adored the book and besides the story it is Hannah that I liked a lot. I liked her character, the kind of person she, the life she lives.
Hvae you read any of her other books? Read one or two others and really liked them too but this is for now my favourite.
