Audrey Sprite | 1 comments I just started with Fifth Avenue Princess The Coco Mint diaries ...here's a link to it http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/tags...
I really liked it but will next be reading Vanity fair by William Thackeray. What are you reading?

message 2: by Katie (new)

Katie | 16 comments I'm kind of reading two books at once, which I usually try not to do since it gets confussing. But the two I'm reading are "Pride and Prejudice" by Jane Austen and "Abandon" by Meg Cabot

message 3: by [deleted user] (new)

I am reading Eat Pray Love (again!) for my library discussion group. I read it last year but wanted to refresh my memory. So I am trying to read as much as possible of it before our group meets tomorrow. I probably won't finish it by then but I can read the rest of it later.

I am also in the Around the World in 80 Books Challenge so I can list the book for one of the countries.

I'm still working on Freedom by Jonathan Franzen. I set the book aside last year, but I will try to finish it this time.

message 4: by Maryellen (new)

Maryellen I am just starting "Smila's Sense of Snow" by Peter Hoeg.

message 5: by Lisa (new)

Lisa (goodreadscomlj8705) | 8 comments I was reading about 4 different books and then the kindle gave out. As I'm currently living abroad, I have to make do with the limited selection of reading materials available until I get a new kindle. Bummer!

Anyway, I'm reading Children of Men by P.D. James.

message 6: by Finn (new)

Finn (music_finn) | 5 comments I am reading The Accidental Time Traveller by Sharon Griffiths. I love time travel books and enjoying it so far...

message 7: by Amy (new)

Amy (allbeans) I am currently reading The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold, Wuthering Heights by Emily Brontë and Julius Caesar by William Shakespeare. I am enjoying them all!

message 8: by Gitte (new)

Gitte (gittetofte) I just finished Only Time Will Tell by Jeffrey Archer (4 stars) and I'm not sure what I'll be reading next... But I'm listening to A Game of Thrones and rent guld i posen - Danish classic children's book.

message 9: by Hannah (new)

Hannah (hannah_337) | 2 comments Reading Pride and Prejudice. Its my third attempt at that and I'm further in than I've ever managed before. Also reading Tigana by Guy Gavriel Kay, an incredible fantasy epic which I'd never heard of but 50p in a charity shop can't be argued with! Its great

message 10: by Philippa (new)

Philippa I'm currently reading A Passage to India and Orientalism, both of which I'll probably be using for my BA thesis.

Other than that I'm also reading A Thousand Splendid Suns, and Iran: Empire of the Mind: A History from Zoroaster to the Present Day, and I've just finished reading The Lady of the Rivers

message 11: by Gitte (new)

Gitte (gittetofte) I just finished The Year of Magical Thinking by Joan Didion which was really depressing. Now I'm reading Inconceivable by Ben Elton to cheer myself up.

message 12: by Zoe (new)

Zoe | 1 comments I'm reading The Body Finder at the moment and it's amazing. Definitely a page-turner, i'd recommend it to anyone who appreciates supernatural romances for teenagers/young adults.

*hi5*

I'm writing on the post-colonial perspective presented in Conrad's Heart of Darkness.

And what are you writing on?

message 16: by Ana (new)

Ana Ruiz (annaruiz) | 10 comments Lés Miserablés! A must-read.

message 17: by Amy (new)

Amy (allbeans) I started the book One Day today (Anne Hathaway is in the movie version that just came out) and I'm really enjoying it! Also, I bought Moby Dick, and I'm starting that tomorrow probably :)

message 18: by spuersinn (new)

spuersinn | 2 comments I'm almost done with reading The Unabridged Journals of Sylvia Plath... It has been a real ride.

I would love to read that!

message 20: by Amy (new)

Amy (allbeans) Okay, I am now reading like way to many books at once: Moby Dick, One Day, Wuthering Heights, and THE HUNGER GAMES.
A friend made me read the hunger games, and I must say i'm enjoying it a lot!

Philippa Lidiana wrote: "Philippa wrote: "Lidiana wrote: "Philippa wrote: "I'm currently reading A Passage to India and Orientalism, both of which I'll probably be using for my BA thesis.

I'm writing on the stereotypical Orientalistic views and attitudes in A Passage to India, and if it is possible for friendship to transcend those boundaries.

message 22: by Finn (new)

Finn (music_finn) | 5 comments I'm currently reading The Constant Princess by Philippa Gregory. Really enjoyed some of her other books (The Other Boleyn Girl, The Other Queenetc)... Enjoying the story so far - that of Catherine of Aragon and her marriage to Henry's brother Arthur, before she falls in love with Henry VIII.

spuersinn | 2 comments Gitte wrote: "spuersinn wrote: "I'm almost done with reading The Unabridged Journals of Sylvia Plath... It has been a real ride."

You should get a copy of it... I think it'll be really worth it, especially if you're a fan of Sylvia Plath's writing... You get to read about her as a person and sometimes the streams of consciousness she wrote are just amazing and cannot be written by anyone else but her.
And of course, to learn about her thoughts about her life up front..

message 24: by Lori (new)

Lori Walker I love reading Plath's journals. But I find myself getting too into it if I read them for more than a couple of days in a row.

message 25: by [deleted user] (new)

Yes, I did finally finish reading Freedom by Jonathan Franzen. I am currently reading Falling Together by Marisa de los Santos and wish I weren't. I had read one of her earlier novels, Belong to Me, and I thought it was pretty good.

I will not read Life of Pi again. I read it in 2008 but I didn't like it.

Next up will be Garden Spells by Sarah Addison Allen and A Rumpole Christmas by John Mortimer. Both are for book discussion groups. I've read Garden Spells already. So much for highbrow literature.

message 26: by [deleted user] (new)

"The Unbearable Lightness of Being" by Milan Kundera. It's very intelligent, intriguing, clever, philosophical.

message 27: by Gitte (new)

Gitte (gittetofte) I just finished One Day by David Nicholls. Absolutely loved it! Now I'm reading Tom Jones by Henry Fielding.

message 28: by Melanie (new)

Melanie One Day is a great book. I'm currently reading Skein of Lament, Atlas Shrugged and The Divine Comedy. I think the latter two in particular are very Rory books :)

message 29: by Gitte (new)

Gitte (gittetofte) I've got mixed feelings about Tom Jones and I'm now reading Fingersmith by Sarah Waters. Also I'm listening to The Brothers Lionheart by Astrid Lindgren - so well-written and heartbreaking!

message 30: by Esther (new)

Esther The Map of Time just started it today but so far seems pretty good, although I am usually not into time machine stuff

message 31: by Gitte (new)

I'm really looking forward to that one!

I'm reading Villette by Charlotte Brontë. Not quite sure what I think about it.

message 39: by Doreen (last edited Jan 08, 2012 08:52AM) (new)

Doreen | 11 comments I've just finished rereading the Harry Potter series a couple of days ago... have to admit I'm now missing Hogwarts a little...

Started the Annotated Sherlock Holmes (Novels) today and I'm loving it. The only Holmes I've ever read till now was The Hound of the Baskervilles. Now I'm starting with A Study in Scarlet which beautifully introduces the characters. Plus the annotated version of the book gives lots of info on characters, history... great book so far.

Oh... and 1Q84 is also on my list!

message 40: by Nikoline (new)

Nikoline (annenikoline) I am currently reading Out of Africa by Karen Blixen, which I believe Rory Gilmore would read too, and I am also reading A Passage to India by E.M Forster, which is a bit slow and boring, but I have only read a few chapters so far.

message 41: by Gitte (new)

Gitte (gittetofte) I'm reading Sunset Park by Paul Auster.

message 42: by Esther (new)

Esther got hooked on the song of ice and fire saga. just started with the third a storm of swords. splendid opening!

message 43: by Erin (new)

Erin | 76 comments Doreen - I know exactly what you mean. I always miss Hogwarts when I come to the end of the HP series.

And I'm also reading A Study in Scarlet. This is my first Sherlock Holmes. I read Laurie R. King's The Beekeeper's Apprentice and enjoyed it so much that I thought I should try out the originals!
