message 51: by Alicia (new)

Alicia Yeah, I actually do read a lot of dystopian, but dystopian heroines usually tend to be outsider/rebel/bluestocking or warrior, not the hard types like wallflower and professional.

message 52: by Kristina (new)

Kristina (kristinalawhead) Have either of you read Across the Universe or Delirium? I'm not sure what category the two main characters would fit into

message 53: by Sashana (new)

Sashana True...I'm think maybe Lena from Delirium could wallflower because no one really noticed her at first.

message 54: by Alicia (new)

Alicia Yeah, I read Delirium before I started this challenge so I'm not going to count it, but I think Lena would be outsider/rebel/bluestocking. She is trying to change her society and rebelling against its system of surgeries and arranged marriages.

message 55: by Kristina (new)

Kristina (kristinalawhead) Okay thanks guys! I was thinking Wallflower for Lena too

message 56: by Sashana (new)

Sashana I think she could fall into both categories. For the first half of the book she was a wallflower, for the second half she was the outsider/rebel/bluestocking heroine.

Gabrielle Blaque/~Bhlack Benehvolence~ (werewolfgrl1) | 417 comments No Sans your definitely not alone here, and to think I thought it would be easier if we did a female version of the My Hero challenge.

Most of the books I found for my heroines are either out of books books I've read at least twice since I've had them or are coming from books where the heroine only fits some of heroine list requirements.

Yep I think I might've underestimated this challenge a little bit.

message 61: by Sans (new)

Sans I think I finally found heroines for each personality type. Jeeze, took me long enough. Great progress, everyone!

Gabrielle Blaque/~Bhlack Benehvolence~ (werewolfgrl1) | 417 comments Good job Sans! I'm still looking for books for the slightly more difficult spinster and professional heroine so any suggestions are greatly appreciated!

message 63: by Sans (new)

Sans For professional, it was down to Slave to Sensation (Psy-Changeling #1) by Nalini Singh and Exclusively Yours (Kowalski Family, #1) by Shannon Stacey (I'm more into PNR right now than contemporary romance so I went with Slave to Sensation). For spinster, I went with Suddenly You by Lisa Kleypas , but Tempting Fate (Providence, #2) by Alissa Johnson was a close second!

Gabrielle Blaque/~Bhlack Benehvolence~ (werewolfgrl1) | 417 comments Thanks Sans, I'm going to look into these very soon!

message 65: by Kristina (new)

Kristina (kristinalawhead) I used one of the girls in the Bride Quartet series by Nora Roberts for the Professional Heroine. You could maybe also use Becky from the Shopaholic books? I'm not big into chick lit but those two would fit!

message 66: by Sans (new)

Sans I think the heroines from Julie James' books could qualify as professionals. And, of course, any courtesan or prostitute would qualify as well!

Gabrielle Blaque/~Bhlack Benehvolence~ (werewolfgrl1) | 417 comments A courtesan or prostitute? I didn't think about that, if can't find any of the ones you suggested before I'll contemplate finding books that heroines like that maybe.

Thanks again Sans, and everyone else!

message 68: by Sans (new)

Sans You're welcome! I double checked Julie James' books and her heroines definitely count. They're all lawyers or similar.

Janet | 43 comments I think it's a little icky that most of these heroine definitions seem to be about their romantic interests & "needs"- something you never see in definitions of male heroes. Personally I think romance is a sideline, not the point of heroism. So my choices might be a bit off from the descriptions given for this one. (For example, Miss Marple is a classic spinster heroine, but she's not looking for love).

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 15159 comments Juliana, How did you get the all the pics the same height?

message 95: by Juliana Philippa (last edited Aug 10, 2011 11:49PM) (new)

Juliana Philippa (julianaphilippa) | 16 comments The standard html code is:
img src="webaddress"

You can specify the height and/or width, and if you only specify one than the other is automatically adjusted with the same ratio, so:
img src="webaddress" height="100"

You have to put it in < > tags, but when I do that it registers it as code, so I couldn't show you the code and leave the tags in.
