Spring is the busy season for book tours, and I have been to two author speaking events in the last two nights. Since book sellers are always part of the sponsorship, it seems only suitable to buy a book! I've already read Bryan Stevenson's book and it is brilliant. Highly recommend. He is also a very compelling speaker. Tonight was Chris Hayes, the news analyst who has a show on MSNBC. Thought provoking, also very engaging speaker. Picked up his newly published book, as well as something fron last night's event. The to-read pile is growing! Two more events next month.

It's Indie bookstore day. I trust you are all running out to your local independent bookstore and showing them support by making a purchase.

Recent travel inspired me to add a few things to the at-home library. And while I am at it, a few items that have been lingering on the to-read list that I seem to have a hard time finding in bookstores. Sometimes online ordering is the way to go!

Dimitri you and I appear to be similarly afflicted with the book buying bug. I've picked up a few more to round out the summer reading pile. Never mind that this is way more than what I usually read over the course of a summer.

Bentley wrote: "Goodness gracious - were you at Powell's again (smile) and did you bring Dimitri with you?"The bulk of this comes from the Thiepval museum & the Ypres bookshops. Can't tour the Great War battlefields from Neuve Chapelle down to the Somme and eastwards to Verdun/St; Michiel and not stock up.
I was at those bookstores on a visit of World War I sites about three or four years ago. Hard not to.
University Bookstore having a store wide sale! Far be it from me to pass up a good shopping opportunity.

Did I say I was done buying books for awhile? I lied. But in my defense, I recently heard Louise Penny speak and I think that means you have to buy a book. Two more for the bookshelf ~

Alisa, you are reminding me of Aussie Rick and his long lists. I hope you have room for all of these books. Although I am very guilty of piling them up too. I have decided to gift my finished books to give others the pleasure of another read.
Dimitri is not far behind you either.
Dimitri is not far behind you either.
I have a long way to go to catch up to Aussie Rick but I've certainly been on a pace to catch up recently. I routinely send books I have read out to the universe so they eventually end up with friends, little libraries, local charities, or the occasional used book store.
I recently promised myself that I wouldn't buy any books until I had read many of the ones already sitting on my shelves. But when I saw this one at the Berkeley Art Museum, I couldn't resist.

Thea BeckmanThis is Dutch YA from the 70's that I grew up reading, historical novels that for many people were their first introduction to the subject at hand. Terlouw's grassroots tale of the occupied Netherlands in '44-45 is joined here by Thea Beckman's books on minstrels during the Hundred Years' War around Poitiers (1356) and the city of Utrecht during the Eighty Years' War (1673).

The Fall book tour season is upon us and at least where I live it is proving to be a very busy season. Thought provoking discussion last night by Lawrence O'Donnell, am looking forward to reading this. It's always nice to get the book autographed and he couldn't have been more gracious.

Really I went shopping to pick up a few other things last night, these books somehow ended up in my cart. The Sympathizer was listed on Bill Gates' 5 favorite books of the year list he released yesterday, and the people at University Bookstore told me they had a noticeable surge of people buying it.
