LOL!!! No, you're fine! Awesome picks as usual! I'm torn between 7 books. LOL Yes, 7! LOL And if I had to pick based on cover alone--Nicholas would win hands down. LOL

I really hope you like something I've picked for you. If not, I'll gladly pick again for you.

I'm going to copy your format for the most part.

A-1 Duncan's Bride (love the heroine- doesn't happen often that a heroine doesn't annoy me! Sweetest love story ever!)
A-2 Hummingbird

B-1 Dirty (about to start)
B-2 Sugar Daddy (you read Blue Eyed Devil. So, you should read Sugar Daddy you may enjoy it a little more having read Blue Eyed Devil first. Sugar Daddy had mixed reviews, but I liked it.)

C-1 Slave to Sensation
C-2 The Hunger Games

D-1 Remembrance
D-2 Once and Always

I think I'm going to go for Water for Elephants. I've just requested it from the library.

At first, I was leaning to Rice's The Witching Hour but when I saw the page count, I decided to read that in a less busy month unlike December.

I'm hoping to squeeze in Feisty's Bound to Please before the month's end.

The rest gets added or for now, stays in the TBR shelf.

Thanks for the great recommendations.

Well, I just put Dragon Actually into the monthly challenge so that will most likely be my pick. I may still pick up another book depending on how the month and my challenges go. I'm still able to read with you if you choose one of my Tiny Tim Factor books. I'm looking forward to my book.

Joyce (eternity21) | 739 comments Hi Jackie

Here are your picks - I hope you like them:

THE GHOST OF READING PAST
1) The Face of Deception by Iris Johansen: I saw that you had read some of her books and liked them. This was the first of her books that I read and it just got me hooked all forensic mysteries.
2) Dark Prince by Christine Feehan: This book has been recommended to me many times, but I just have not had a chance to read it yet. It's day is coming soon.
The Face of Deception (Eve Duncan Forensics Thrillers) by Iris Johansen Dark Prince (Carpathians, #1) by Christine Feehan

THE GHOST OF READING PRESENT:
1) Eternal Pleasure by Nina Bangs: I just finished this and really enjoyed it. I'm looking forward to the next one.
2)Garden Spells by Sarah Addison Allen: I was given this book by a really good friend. They really enjoyed it and I am looking forward to reading it soon.

THE GHOST OF READING FUTURE:
1) Veil of Midnight by Lara Adrian: I notice you are up to this book in her Midnight series.
2) Stormwalker by Allyson James: I saw this on your TBR list and it is a book that I also want to read, plus it is the beginning of a new series.

Veil of Midnight (Midnight Breed, #5) by Lara Adrian Stormwalker (Stormwalker, #1) by Allyson James
THE TINY TIM FACTOR:
1) Covet by J.R. Ward: I noticed that you like J.R. Ward's books. My friend just read it and I am looking forward to reading this too.

message 208: by Nan (last edited Nov 30, 2010 10:18PM) (new)

Nan (xxmzsmilesxx) | 84 comments Hi Cathy!

The Ghost of Reading Past:
1.Embrace the Night by Amanda Ashley- One of my all time favourite Paranormal Romance.
2. Heart of the Dragon by Gena Showalter- One of my Goodreads friend recommended me this book. She said it was really good but I never really gotten around to 'actually' reading it. I've skimmed through the book and it was pretty good. XD

The Ghost of Reading Present:
1.Dark Prince by Christine Feehan- A brilliant series. I'm currently reading the 6th book in this series and man I well never get sick of Carpathian men. Their just so damn good looking and protective/possessive!
2. Clockwork Angel by Cassandra Clare- One of my best friend bought this book for me for my birthday. And I haven't gotten around to reading this but apparently its a great book.

The Ghost of Reading Future:
1. Red Fire by Deidre Knight- Seems like a good read from the reviews I've read.
2. Hostage to Pleasure by Nalini Singh - Might as well read the rest of this series. Skimmed read this one and it was pretty ok.

TINY TIM FACTOR:
1.Jacob by Jacquelyn Frank- Haven't read this yet but I'm willing to read this if you are. =))
2. Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead- One of the best vampire Young Adult book ever written. And is one of my most favourite series. I adore those characters in the book and I can read this again and again.

Well I hope you enjoy the books I picked out for you and hope we talk about it to each other. Have fun reading!!! =))

Thanks Joyce! I LOVE the picks.

I'm going to shoot for the lofty goal of three :) I'm going to try The Face of Deception. I skipped the first couple, not knowing they were a series, and was slightly confused. The back story would be nice! Also going to try to get to Veil of Midnight because they series is great and Stormwalker.

The rest are going on my TBR! I'm glad you chose J.R. Ward. Based on your reading list I think you're going to love it. Let me know what you think. Thanks again!

Hi Sue - thanks for the recs. I'll have a more thorough look through tomorrow - when I'm at work and can request books through the library (ie work)...
I have had Like Water for Chocolate recommended before, so it might move up the list. I promise to let you know when I've decided.

I started reading Dangerous Highlander today on the plane home - but had a visitor from Texas sitting beside me - so got sidetracked talking :)

If you do decide on Ceremony in Death I will definitely read it with you, as it were!

I'll be going with either Key of Light or The Spellman Files depending on which comes into my library first.

Jim son of Jim (formerly PhotoJim) (jim_formerly_photojim) | 5294 comments I'll go back through the list when I get back later today. Today was supposed to be a day off, but the world of photography never sleeps. So another day at the studio it is. But I'll go back through everything and update when I get home today. No dirty looks for pointing out my failings.

The song was greatly appreciated. You sound much better than my kids. They can play musical instruments but the singing definitely leaves something to be desired.

Thenia, I already have a volunteer to pick for Jade but appreciated.

I see lots of great picks that people will be reading. And I hope we can all find some new friends through the Tiny Tim factor. Reading books with someone is fun. It gives you someone you can say, "Do you believe that crap!? I totally thought she was going to run away with Ben but I guess Mike is just too good in bed." And they can reply, "You know I'm about 80 pages behind you! Why would you tell me that?!"

I'll read Spirited Away with you! I see we both have a couple of her books. I've heard they're very good and I love stories with ghosts! If you want to read something else, that's okay. I'll pick Halfway to the Grave then. You gave me some really great choices! Warrior looks like a really great read, too. I love those Indiana Jones type stories and this book looks like it just from the cover! I'm adding this one to my Christmas wish list!

lol, I came this close (holding fingers close together) to recommending Call Me Mrs. Miracle to you. I finished Hannah's list and started MM the next day. They were both so good. I missed the movie, but I got my mom on it, she is going to record it for me when it replays this weekend. Did you get to see the first one from a couple years ago also? It was cute - not as good as her book, but that is often true of movies they make from books.

Enjoy (with a couple tissues for the first couple chapters). I still haven't decided yet, I have it narrowed down to Crave, Bitten, Friday Night Knit or the Lisa Kleypas - Christmas Eve at Friday Harbor.
Decisions, decisions?

Lady Allison | 118 comments Angelique,
Here are my recs for you, happy to be choosing for you as you've done such a great job this & last time. If you don't find anything you like, let me know & I'll choose again :)

The Ghost of Reading Past

1) Nice Girls Don't Have Fangs by Molly Harper - a MUST read for any fan of funny vamp fiction. She's SO funny & like Katie MacAlister has become an auto buy
2) Under Her Skin by Susan Mallery - my dear GR friend, Leah, recommended this author & series to me & I really enjoyed it! It's got strong women, sexy men, & a fantastically evil villain. I'm now a big fan of this author & am reading more of her series

Nice Girls Don't Have Fangs (Jane Jameson, #1) by Molly Harper Under Her Skin (Lone Star Sisters, #1) by Susan Mallery

The Ghost of Reading Present

1) Eat, Pray, Love by Elizabeth Gilbert - currently reading on audio (read by the author which is really cool) & thoroughly enjoying it.
2) Kiss of Midnight by Lara Adrian - I bought it as a gift to myself, that counts, right? ;) First in the Midnight Breeds series, it's a good read & interesting world.

Eat, Pray, Love by Elizabeth Gilbert Kiss of Midnight (Midnight Breed, #1) by Lara Adrian

The Ghost of Reading Future

1) Shiver by Maggie Stiefvater - 5 stars!!! I LOVE this book & this series. It's so beautifully written & emotional without being angsty. One of my favorite books of all time.
2) Pleasure Unbound by Larissa Ione - this was my first demon book & a FABULOUS series! It's finished with 6 books in the series so you won't have to wait torturously for the next, but I know you'll love this author & this world.

Shiver (The Wolves of Mercy Falls, #1) by Maggie Stiefvater Pleasure Unbound (Demonica, #1) by Larissa Ione

The Tiny Tim factor
1) Magic Bites by Ilona Andrews - I've been recommended this one over & over so I'm finally reading it this month & would love to read it with someone!
2) Lover Revealed by J.R. Ward - I saw you've only read the first 3...keep reading!!! This is one of my favorite series as a whole & Butch (whom I adore!) has a great story. I would read it again in a heartbeat.

Magic Bites (Kate Daniels, #1) by Ilona Andrews Lover Revealed (Black Dagger Brotherhood, #4) by J.R. Ward

***************************************************************

As for me, I'll be reading I'm the Vampire, That's Why & I'll try to get my hands on Beyond the Highland Mist since I've never done time travel romance but I really enjoyed KMM's Fever series :) Thanks for the recs!

If you've never read a gothic romance then I highly recommend you read Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte and Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier. They're both my absolute favorites! From the first line of each of these classic novels, I simply could not put them down. They're full of mystery, suspense and romance. Definitely worth the time to read!

Thanks for the great recs! This month I´m going to read
The Hunger Games

message 242: by Britta (new)

Britta (macdeath) Photojim,
Sorry I took a while!

Coincidentally, I'm reading The Shining right now! :O It's my read-at-school book, since it fits perfectly in my bag, so it isn't going as fast as it could (Damn those teachers!.. They actually expect us to do work! Imagine that..) but it is quite brilliant so far (:
And I guess I forgot to update it on Goodreads. Whoopsie-daisy :3

Waiting for the Galactic Bus seems a lot like my type of book, so I'll keep my out for that, definitely! But I'm not going to commit to reading it this month, since it doesn't seem like it'll be very easy to get ahold of :/

And seeing as Dead Until Dark quite put me off the whole vampire/werewolf thing for a while, Moon Called isn't that appealing right now either..

So I think I'd like to try out Roberts' Key of Light this fine December! :3 Roberts is another author I've been meaning to read for quite a while, and my great-aunt has also mentioned that her books were quite good, so now seems like a great time!

I'll be going to the bookstore with a friend tomorrow - with my beaaautiful gift cards! (Birthday presents :D) - so I hope I'll get my hands on it!

I'll have your recs up in a minute!

Watch that space \/ \/ \/

*The Ghost of Reading Past*

1. Procession of the Dead by Darren Shan.
Now I'm not a 100 percent sure this is your type, but it was a.. (*Racks brains for another word besides 'brilliant'...) phenomenal (:D) book. Maybe lacking in the romance department, but that's not always a bad thing either! And I personally think that everyone should read a Darren Shan book once in their life! :3
(If I manage to get the last book in this trilogy, I'll have read all of his books so far... Of course, that third book is a real tricky one. Still haven't managed to get my hands on it D:)

2. Fallen by Lauren Kate
This one was recommended by one of my best friends. Now I have to admit that I don't remember quite too much about it, including the plot, but I do remember that I liked it enough to be incredibly excited to read the next book, which is sitting on my shelf right at this very moment, staring at me :_:

*The Ghost of Reading Present*

1. Well.
I just finished Dead Until Dark. You've read that. Right now I'm reading The Shining. You've read that. And I'm about to start Sir Apropos of Nothing. You've read that!
And your beautiful TBR list holds a record number of.. 1 book.

Let's find something else that you might like! *Charges*

*Scratches chin* Hmm. Oh! How about..
Book of Shadows by Cate Tiernan? The series was in my school library and I read them all in a week or two. They were very.. (*Steers clear of 'brilliant'*).... dashing :_: Oh, how about 'wonderful'? Yes. That's a good word! Wonderful! :D'
I quite want to read them again now ...

2. Hush, Hush by Becca Fitzpatrick.
A present from my other best friend. Patch wasn't all that likeable for me, but the book itself was quite good! :3
And as pretty much always, it is also part of a series.

*The Ghost of Reading Future*

1. I know I know I know! :D I remembered another really really amazingly awesome book I got from the library (Libraries are wonderful inventions, non?)
Alanna: The First Adventure by Tamora Pierce.
A girl pretending to be a boy to become a knight :D They should make more books about knights.. They're fascinating :3 (Hmm, that sounds like an interesting idea for NaNoWriMo..)

2. (*Gets momentarily distracted, jumping on her bed whilst looking at her book shelves*)
The Magicians' Guild by Trudi Canavan.
I personally adored this book. My dad didn't, as much as he read of it (But he isn't really as big a reader. And he's much more in the sci-fi section, than in the fantasy section, which is a shame,) but what does he know, eh? :3 I don't remember all that much about this book either, but I do remember being quite infatuated with it :D
(I really should read the other two books, shouldn't I? That's a good plan.)

*The Tiny Tim Challenge*

1. Sisters Red by Jackson Pearce.
I really want to finally read this :3 This was also a present, but I still haven't managed to read it, which is a shame C:

2.City of Bones by Cassandra Clare. I know that it's totally supernatural, and I know that it's totally romance... But it's just not the cliché kind of supernatural romance. Plus it has action. Like actual action. And a hot gay warlock, if it makes any difference. *Cough*
And I'd love an excuse to read it again, since it was totally brilliant, and I bought my very own copy of it a little while back.

Procession of the Dead (The City Trilogy, #1) by Darren Shan Fallen (Fallen, #1) by Lauren Kate Book of Shadows (Sweep, #1) by Cate Tiernan Hush, Hush (Hush, Hush, #1) by Becca Fitzpatrick Alanna The First Adventure (Song of the Lioness, #1) by Tamora Pierce The Magicians' Guild (Black Magician Trilogy, #1) by Trudi Canavan ] Sisters Red (Sisters Red, #1) by Jackson Pearce City of Bones (The Mortal Instruments, #1) by Cassandra Clare

Decisions, decisions?"

I'd put the Friday Night Knitting Club at the bottom of the list. Elke and I tried to read it together, and we kept putting it aside and grumbling, we both didn't warm up to the main character but I don't think either of us got very far into it. I have renewed interest in it now, just not enough to put it at the top of my TBR at the moment. Maybe when I start knitting . . .

Christmas Eve at Friday Harbor was a cute, quick read, and it is the season after all!

Debbie (db_debber) | 2757 comments I put in a request at my library for Christmas Eve at Friday Harbor. Hopefully it will get here soon.
Thanks for the info on FNK too. I will keep that in mind.

Polina (p0lit0o) | 71 comments Hi, Tatiana!

Thanks for the wonderful picks you chose for me. First of all, I have to say that I was particularly interested in reading The Disreputable History of Frankie Landau-Banks and Saving Francesca but unfortunately they are not available in my country. So I'll probably choose Mockingjay, although I always prefer to read a totally new book from my picks for the Pick It For Me Challenge.

Secondly, I want to apologize if I have upset you although that was not my intention. The thing about 'the low expectations' didn't come out right. What I wanted to say was that in my experience when I have big hopes for a book I often end up not liking it very much. I just didn't want you to be disappointed that's all. Never mind.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy the book you decide to read.

Peace

I finished my second pick, Tempt Me with Darkness (which I've had on my shelves for months!)... What a great start to a new series! I'm glad I have the next two books, and I ..."

Wow, Melanie, you are on fire! So glad you liked your second rec. I have a few library books I need to get through and return and then I will read Kiss An Angel.

Tatiana (tatiana_g) No problem, Polina:)

Good luck with Mockingjay! And I hope one day you will be able to read something by E. Lockhart and Melina Marchetta. They both are great writers.

Annvelwis | 671 comments Elke, I'm so very sorry for such a late response. I hate that I kept you waiting. I love your picks :D I actually read The Hunger Games a while back and I loved it so I can recommend it, too :D I'm going to read Susan Mallery's Under Her Skin. I like her other books a lot I I feel pretty confident that I'll love that pick, hah. That said, I'll put Jodi Foster's Too Much Temptaion on my TBR, too. Thank you very much :)

And here's my recommendations for you... If you'd prefer more books to choose from just give my a sign and I'll get right to it ;D

A. The Ghost of Reading Past -
1) Soulless by Gail Carriger
2) The Forest of Hands and Teeth by Carrie Ryan

B. The Ghost of Reading Present -
1) I just finished 9th book of Psy-Changeling series written by Nalini Singh. I hate to recommend books from the middle of the series so I will go with the first of the series: Slave to Sensation
2) The Girl Who Played with Fire by Steig Larsson

C. The Ghost of Reading Future -
1) Welcome to Temptation by Jennifer Crusie
2) The Duke And I by Julia Quinn

D. The Tiny Tim factor (totally optional but a worthwhile challenge)
1) He Loves Lucy by Susan Donovan
2) The Host by Stephenie Meyer

Happy reading!

Miss | 330 comments Thank you Courtney, I am happy with my picks, I have some great books to choose from, I think I will go with Ice, which sounds like a wonderful book and I love trying out new authors. If I can't get a hold of it I will read Graceling, I've been planning to read it for some time. I've added the others to my wishlist also. Thanks!
