Debbie (db_debber) | 2757 comments Still have a few days anyways.
Melanie has a good point, it does pick up.
Good luck.

message 452: by Ann (new)

Ann (annabell123) Hmm...I have Halfway to the Grave from the library. I haven't started it yet though. I heard that it is really good.

Charlotte (Buried in Books) | 561 comments Maybe I'm just not in the right frame of mind for it. I will be trying again, just not this month (too many other challenges to try and finish).

message 454: by Annie (new)

Annie (themadnessofhamsters) Hi Debbie & KimKirt I finished A Quick Bite last night!
With all the warnings about it - I just kept going. Fortunately, not in the mindset of a martyr (I must read this to fulfill x-number of challenges) - as I started liking it. Well, maybe not liking as much as not disliking, if that makes sense.
There wasn't anything offensive to make me hate it. And there wasn't anything outstanding to make me like/love it.
It was an ok read.
That said, with everything else I have on my plate - not sure how willing I am to read any more in the series, yet. At the moment - Thomas is the only character I'd like to read more about. The others were good supporting cast, but Lissi's brothers were shadowy, and barely present.

message 455: by Debbie (new)

Debbie (db_debber) | 2757 comments Yeah Annie and everyone else who have gotten there book read.

* Please Remember to check back, only 4 days left till the end of the month.
We currently have about half of the participants that have checked in here to let everyone know what they read and what they thought of it. With the holiday season starting, it seems like we have less time in day, but a brief "I read xxxx." would be appreciated.

Final update will be made in December, so you still have time to read and / or post.

Thank you all for making this months Pick It For Me Challenge so easy to host and track.

message 456: by Sue (new)

Sue (knitwitsl) | 226 comments Well, my work and my daughter's wedding took most of my extra time away this month. But, I was able to finish Play of Passion by Nalini Singh late last night. While I like the Psy-Changeling novels, this one did not have enough of the psy and their world for me. It revolved around a changeling relationship and their world. And while it was an interesting book, I missed the psy part that I think sets these books apart.

I am still going to try and read the other book, Grimspace, but I'm not sure I will get it done before the end of the month!

Hope you had a great Thanksgiving!

Thank you so much for recommending Naked in Death by JD Robb. It was a good book and I liked it. I'm going to continue with the series. That futuristic murder mystery was just what I needed. Loved Roarke and Eve by the way!

Thanks again!

It's so funny because in the Nalini Singh group some were eager to get their hands on a book not about the psy.LOL
I personally like both the psy and shifters, but many people seem to only like one or the other more.

If you liked the first one, you ain't seen nothin' yet! The mysteries are almost extraneous to the overall story arc. The series is really about Eve and what family really means. Just wait until you've met more members of Eve's 'family'. Not a book goes by that I don't find myself laughing out loud about something I read. But yet the message is always serious and moving. Give it a couple more and before you know it you'll be on the wait list for #32 which comes out in February.

If this is your first SEP book and you liked the writing style, you might as well go ahead and buy everything else she's ever written. One of my favorite authors.

Yay! I'm glad you enjoyed it! I've got to move this one up in my TBR list. I've read the other books in the series, but somehow missed this one. Molly's book was probably my favorite of the series, so I'd like to get Phoebe's story.

message 470: by Debbie (new)

Debbie (db_debber) | 2757 comments Annvelwis, finally finished my pick for the month, I used one from my TBR choices: One for the Money, I did enjoy it. It wasn't as funny as I expected it to be (that is what I get for listening to hype), but I still gave it a 4 start and will continue with the series. I have read several 'Between the Numbers' but the longer story was definitely better.
Thanks for giving me a push to get it done.

Ugh! Still not thru it. I don't think I'm really trying. It was due back to the library yesterday. I'm giving myself until tomorrow to finish.

BTW, my mom and my New Year's Resolution is to learn how to knit!

message 472: by Debbie (new)

I taught myself how to knit back in 2006. I found Stitch 'N Bitch: The Knitter's Handbook to be a very helpful place to start. It's funny and informative (even aside from the patterns, none of which I've ever knit) and easy to find at the library to give it a test drive. Then I went to my local yarn shop whenever I encountered something that I couldn't figure out with the book.

I actually started out knitting baby pants - bypassed scarves and hats completely. It was good to have something sort of challenging that kept my interest and pushed my boundaries.

Best of luck.

Charlotte (Buried in Books) | 561 comments Sara, thankyou so much for recommending Halfway to the Grave. I did struggle through the first couple of chapters, but I kept going and am so glad I did.

Bones - hubba hubba. I'd like to get me a piece of him I now understand what all the fuss is about him. I did cry my way through the final chapter though it was sooooo sad, but I still gave it 5 stars.

Kerste - we live in a small town and actually have a knitting shop that gives 2 hour classes for $10 (you pick a project and they help you with it). Believe it or not, my mom went on YouTube for tutorials (the shop owner said we should know the basic stitches before taking a class). Anyway, so my mom is giving me until February to learn the basic stitches (she's already practicing). My husband picked my mom in our secret santa on my side of the family so I think I'll look up that book. Thanks!

Back to topic: Still reading my Nov. book. Hope to finish it tonight (maybe). There's still hope!

message 476: by Annie (new)

Annie (themadnessofhamsters) Knitting and reading - how fabulous! And, if you have a 'book cushion' - something that holds the book open for you - means you can knit something little AND read at the same time...
My resolution was to figure out sewing - and I'm a quarter of a way through an apron. It's not pretty, but it will work practically. As my mother (& sewing instructor) said - it's not like I'll be wearing it out for best!

Good luck for the readers! You still have time.

Hey Sabrina, Happy Thanksgiving... finally I got the time to sit down and read a little, this month has been CRAZY!
I read [book:Some Girls Bite|4447622] by Chloe Neill and it was a total success!, great pick for me, thank you so much!!
I am sooo reading the next one in the series... oh my gosh!, I couldn't believe it when Ethan told Merit to accept Morgan... I'm hoping she'll fall for Morgan and Ethan will regret his super smart decision!

Loved the book... thanks again!

*sighs*
I agree... Kiss an Angel is Susan Elizabeth Phillips' best book.
It is funny as hell.. I loved the wedding scene!

But it's also super sweet...
"I don't love you anymore", she whispered. "I don't love you at all." His throat closed. "It's all right, sweetheart. I love you enough for both of us."

aaawww... I think I'm gonna cry again!
I love Daisy, she's one of my very very favorite characters.
I hope you get to read it soon Sabrina.

I finally finished my book, The Shadow of the Wind. It is something I would not have picked up on my own, but I'm glad you recommended it.

Intriguing storyline. Beautiful prose with plenty of quotable quotes. Keeps you guessing until the end. It was a reading experience.

Again, great recommendation.

I also have Liu's Tiger Eye,but I won't be able to finish it for November.

Did you really enjoy it?
I started that book once but then it mysteriously got lost and I never finished it, I remember something about a kid who found a big library with old books.

It's not something I would read either so I wasn't so excited about it... but I just saw it the other day on my dad's shelf (I guess the mystery is solved) and was thinking about reading it.

I didn't realize there was a group for her books. I'll have to check it out one of these evenings! And I like both the psy and changelings, but I enjoy reading about the psy world even as part of the background since it's a different idea. Or, at least a different idea than the books I've read!

I also finished Grimspace last night. I really enjoyed that books as well. I guess I like books with a sci-fi edge!

Yes, I did.

It's not the kind of book that you can speed through, more like one that you need to savor and take your time. But in the end, it was a great read. I gave it 5 stars if that will help.
