October - What are you reading?
Lori wrote: "You mean Nobody's Baby But Mine isn't on your list of faves of SEP? That one is just my favorite."Oh, I liked it, for sure, but the two I mentioned, especially Kiss an Angel, really had me going through an emotional rollercoaster:-)
I just finished Ilona Andrews'
... It's awesome!!! I can't wait to read William's story!
I finished
it was one of the best books I have read in a long time. and The Master of Rampling Gate: A Graphic Tale of Unspeakable Horror by the Author of the Vampire its been a long time since I have read an Anne Rice book and very much liked this short story and will be reading the other 10 of her books I overlooked. I have started
up to chap 3 and im not sure what I think yet but I am willing to stick with it till the end.
Rebecca...it took me a while to get into Moon Called as well, but it gets better...I bought the second one not long after and then the third...haha, i might be an addict
So before this month, I rated only one 5-star book this year...then in October, I have already 3 of them! The latest is The Name of the Wind which is just phenomenal...I'll write a review about it when I have some time.
Now I'm reading a historical romance: One Dance with a Duke.
Finished up
and I loved the amnesia theme!! I'm going to start
which isn't a typical read for me so we'll see how it goes...
Wow, I haven't been on this thread in a while -- so many great books! I'm currently reading
and listening to two audio books. One is
, which I am enjoying, but would really like to strangle Mrs. Bennett. I've supplemented that great literary masterpiece with a Sharon McCone mystery,
. I also started listening to
, but probably will not continue until I've finished the Muller book.
D.G. wrote: "Now I'm reading a historical romance: One Dance with a Duke"Hi D.G., I just finished that one, what do you think of it?
I'd never read Sandra Hill before: the whole Viking theme seemed a little over-the-top.. But I read
last night, and oh, it was so funny:-D A little cliched, what with the time travelling big macho hero from the past (but he has an obsession with the Home Improvement show!lol).. But it definitely worked for me:-) I'm giving it 5 stars for pure entertainement value, and am looking forwards to reading more SH!!
Tammy wrote: "Hi D.G., I just finished that one, what do you think of it?"So far I'm not impressed. Maybe it's because my last historical had a very similar premise: plain, plump (read: buxom), spinster conquests most desirable bachelor. Also the hero seems to be too much of a jerk.
But maybe I'll get better. I'm just 100 pgs. in.
I finished
Moon Called and it was actually Good once I got to the middle, I felt the beggining was slow (maybe thats not the right word, it was hard for me to get into.) I have started
A Kiss of Shadows.
Ick... I just read Susan Johnson's
... Please tell me her other books are better... This one is a 1* for me because the plot could have been great but... ****SPOILER****
The ass**** cheated on her! Not once, not twice, but over and over! And with two different women!!! And the worst????HE NEVER F***ING APOLOGIZES!!!!!!! No groveling, nothing! I get it. He has problems. He was in love with his now dead Indian girlfriend. Ok. But what kind of romance is this??? yeah, the sex was hot, but seriously? Oz never talks to Isolde about his past, and he's sooo convinced that she's cheating on him, that the baby isn't his.. And did I mention that he DOESN'T APOLOGIZE?????... AAAAArgh!!! What a terrible romance! I liked the first half ok, but after he first leaves her, I felt only disgust with the hero, and with that lily-livered heroine.. Seriously? She sleeps with him again while they're separated??? AAAAAAAAAArrrrgh!!!
***END SPOILER/RANT****
Please please tell me that her other books are better! I have a whole bunch of them and now I'm debating whether to give them away without having read them!

I used to read a lot of Susan Johnson's books when I was younger, and she was like a guilty pleasure for me. However, I only like her historicals. Somehow, I don't like her contemporaries at all, and her later works just feels flat.

If any others have a unrepentant cheating hero, please oh please let me know! That'll teach me to buy the backlist of an author I've never read before!
Melanie wrote: "Yz the Whyz wrote: "Melanie wrote: "Ick... I just read Susan Johnson's

I think I've read the first 5 books in your list. I like Brazen (that's part of the Braddock-Black series, which I thoroughly enjoyed). The St. John-Duras series is okay. I've tried reading Force of Nature a long time ago, but couldn't finish it. My favorite is her Russian (Kuzan) series. But its not PC at all...if you know what I mean.
I've only read a few books in the Braddock-Black and they were good but I think I stopped reading after book 3 or 4 becuase the heroes seemed all the same.
Thank you Yz & DG! I guess I'll give her another try! AT least the ones you mentioned Yz:-) Lol.. btw I don't mind man-sluts as long as they restrain themselves to pre-heroine encounters, or at least as long as they do some serious groveling!!

No Julie. Of the five books, Devil in Winter was my least favorite.
Drq, it's nice to not be alone and have someone else putting DIW at the bottom of the Wallflower list too, but I'm curious why you didn't care for it. I occasionally see others who agree that it was weak, but almost always for different reasons than mine. What makes me such an oddball is that I didn't like Sebastian much at all. Was it Sebastian that didn't do it for you or something else?
reading
- wasn't sure what I would think of it, but it isn't too bad...seems similar to the Lost in Austen series that was on BBC a few years ago (I never watched it but heard lots about it)...Also reading
- only a chapter or so in so far..
I couldn't help myself and started
last night. I'll leave it to read it at home though because the book is in beautiful condition and I don't want to carry it around on my purse. :)

and
. The H in Wicked is just that, very wicked but all ends well and I just felt drawn to that story. Gorgeous as Sin is lighter, less angst and a great couple if I remember correctly- I gave that one a high rating so I must have loved it at the time.
@D.G.- I hope you love it- so sweet and magical!!I am reading
- I've been meaning to read this and have finally gotten to it.

I'll know which to read now:-) I'm also going through BHB, it's hilarious!!!!

I just started Queen of Song and Souls by CL Wilson! I've been putting this one off waiting on the 5th book, which comes out today!
Megan wrote: "I just started Queen of Song and Souls by CL Wilson! I've been putting this one off waiting on the 5th book, which comes out today!"OH, you're in for a treat! I ordered the last book off BD, and I can't wait to receive it (hopefully before this weekend!)!!!! I'm thinking of doing my third reread in six months of the first four books to have them fresh in my mind:-)
@Fran: I know, they're hilarious! I think one of my fave quotes was [talking about the hero's job]: "Danger can make any job sexy. Except proctology. Dangerous proctology makes us all want to curl up in a tiny ball and cry" LOL
I just finished
which was very good. I've started listening to
in the car and will start
this afternoon.
I took a brief break to read two super-short e-book freebies. Tonight I'll be getting back to Sins of the Night by Sherrilyn Kenyon.
I have been reading this
since Monday. I hope it will not drag in some places like the first book did.
I finished
A Kiss of Shadows by Laurell K. Hamilton it was just fantastic, so I moved straight on to
A Caress of Twilight which is just as good as the first and now I have started the third
Seduced by Moonlight Its the first time I have read a series of books one after the other.
Just finished
and it's probably one of my favorites from the IAD series. Listening to
which is a political/thriller type book that is very good.Reading
which it taking a bit to get in to and finally trying to finish
.
