Warning: This review is all about me and my prejudices concerning the SM part of BDSM and how I realized I might be a little deviant too *g*. Bear with me, I am no longer prejudiced LOL. Yes even I can learn !

Hurt me So Good is one of those books that I have a hard time reviewing. Why? Because while I devoured and LOVED it, I’m a bit torn about my feelings toward Masochism (and I can’t not say something about that). After being blown away by Dear

Also, this book was badly researched. E.g. wax play belongs to the tamest BDSM activities. The whipping scenes also made little sense.

1.5 stars - I am not a fan of this book. It was just too frustrating. Victor loves to inflict pain with his crop and Shiloh loves to receive pain. What is the problem? The problem is that Victor can't get over the fact that he likes to hurt the woman he loves. Why? She wants it! She's not happy without it! Give it to her and get over yourself already! Shiloh was getting as frustrated with him as I was. And then, the person who finally makes Victor see the light? Well, I won't give it away, but i ...more

When Hurt Me So Good arrived in my inbox I was thrilled to finally read Victor's story. Joely teased us for months with little snippets and I was desperate to finally read this book. I knew he would be more intense than Conn but wowza I didn't expect this. *fans herself* So I should warn everyone if you're not fond of BDSM this book isn't for you.

Victor is the CEO of VCONN, a local Dallas TV channel which specialize in the more erotic topics. He is a Master at heart and for him pain is more like

I liked the first Connaghers book and this just didn't do it for me. He's a sadist, she's a masochist, I am neither, so I can't really comment on that apart from to say it did not appeal to me. I thought the backdrop to the story — a BDSM reality show — was pretty comical. It made the story very convoluted and gave it a staged and fake feel. Sadly, this wasn't my thing.

I have read plenty of BDSM romances, so what I am about to write isn't coming from a place of "I don't like this genre, therefore I am giving this book a bad review." Hell, Annabel Joseph is one of my favorite authors and she certainly writes some edgy Doms. Having said that, my only thoughts while reading Hurt Me So Good (besides boredom) were "ew, gross!"
First, Victor isn't a Dom, he's a bizarre sadist. Okay, sadism is so not my thing. But, I've read books about S/m (my favorites being Candace

No body makes my reader’s heart sting like Joely Sue Burkhart. I’m not usually one to enjoy contemporaries but with Joely’s quirky sense of humor and passion for the forbidden or the politically incorrect, I get lost in the magic every time.

Hurt Me So Good is a sweltering hot read even without the mention of crops, whips and collars. The passion between Shiloh and Victor is addictive and I do believe I’m going to miss reading about a heroine who isn’t afraid to talk dirty. She’s not a doormat. S

MacKenzie’s Review:

Wow, is what I have to say about Hurt Me So Good by Joely Sue Burkhart. I could kick myself for not reading this the day that it came out. This is an outstanding story with a well-developed plot and intriguing characters with multi-dimensional personalities. I can truly think of nothing negative to say about this story.

What a bold choice going for the sadist and masochistic storyline with such drama and fervor. Ms. Burkhart has certainly put herself in a class above the rest w

Another amazing story by Joely Sue Burkhart. After really enjoying Conn's story in Dear Sir I'm Yours, I decided to give his brother, Victor's story a try. Victor and Shiloh's story is centered around the extreme edge of BDSM and Ms. Burkhart does an incredible job of developing the characters and describing their challenges in needing and accepting their roles as the sadist and the masochist. And, while the S/M portion of BDSM isn't necessarily my thing - I thought this book did a wonderful job ...more

It did take me a while to finish this one up. I liked the characters - although I did think Victor got to be a little over the top with the fear. Shiloh was definitely a pain slut and I thought the descriptors of what she was experiencing were really well written. I enjoyed this one more than Dear Sir, I'm Yours by Joely Sue Burkhart as I liked the characters better. I thought Shiloh really did a nice job of pushing Victor and making clear to him what she wanted. I think those that want a more romantic read will enjoy the Dear Sir bet ...more

Shiloh is in love with Victor, her boss. Cliché, you might think, but maybe you'd reconsider if I told you that Shiloh is into BDSM and she wants Victor to be her Master, knowing that he is a Dominant. Everyone has fantasies, but Shiloh took this one step further.
You see, Victor is the CEO of VCONN, a local Dallas TV channel which specializes in erotic shows. When they are in need of a new show, that will help increase ratings, something innovative and shocking, something that will enthrall vie

In this second installment of the Connagher series, Ms. Burkhart has up the smexy ante! Just when I thought the first book took us on a intense ride of conquering fears, trusting in one's self, and giving in to desires and needs, the story of Victor and Shiloh does all that, but on a whole new level! Grab a tissue and towel because you'll need them both!

I'm not even going to bother recapping the summary of the story, because the book blurb does one hell of job at that! Instead, I'm going to focu

I LOVE this Series!!! This is Victor and Shiloh's story and HOLY Sh*T is it HOT!!! Victor owns a TV station and Shiloh works for him that's how they come to each other's attention. Shiloh sees in Victor exactly what she needs and has been looking for Victor meanwhile is still hiding certain facets of his true self. Shiloh challenges him in a uniquely brilliant way a reality show to stir his competitive nature. You really need to read this book and find out if the sub gets the dom

Victor Connagher is a former star quarterback now CEO of Dallas cable channel VCONN, Victor is commanding, fierce, outwardly calm and collected, inside a volcano of intensity on the verge of erupting, which made him an intriguing character that demanded my full attention, whether I was ready to give it or not.

His darker sexual needs and urges, a nasty experience with his ex-fiancée and the subsequent difficulty to find the woman who accepts that side of him and is able to handle him
Hang in here with me because I have a confession to make before getting to the good (and I do mean gooood) stuff. After waiting like a kid at Christmas for the second book in the Connagher series to finally make it to my Kindle, I found myself disappointed after reading the first paragraph. In fact, my dears, I was well into the first chapter before the heebie jeebies left my stomach and satisfaction began to roll in. I can take a whole lot of hawt in my stories. I was really worried about how dark this one would go. I am not into this scene at all, and I was scared she would go too far for me and my weenie self, but she didn't. Yes it is pretty hard core to a traditional girl like me, but that's not the focus of the story. Victor is a sadist in the truest sense of the word, but he's scared of himself and his needs. Shiloh is a masochist, but she's determined not to ask another man to push himself for her because it will ultimately lead to resentment.

A real big tip of my hat to this author, because she took me farther into edge play than I would have thought I'd be comfortable. This book's featured torture instrument is an old well oiled riding crop. And I personally found the crop itself to be almost another character in the tale. We learn about the meaning the crop has to our hero, where it came from, and we learn about the relationship that develops between our couple thanks to this leather tool.

WOW! This book is terrific. Ms. Burkhart described scenes so well I could smell the sweat, taste the fear and revel in the sexual tension. This book blew me away with the amount of detail and development for the characters. This book was so engaging, I wish I were a painslut. Victor is definitely a scary alpha male. His sadistic tendencies are definitely not for the faint of heart. The plot revolved around a BDSM reality show. The show was phenomenal. If this was ever on cable, I'd be riveted an ...more

This wasn't the novel for me. I was expecting something a bit more darker, a bit more psychologically explorative in the realms of the more taboo parts of human desire and sexuality. I was a bit sad to find that this was more of a shallow, too good to be true, love story with the stereotypical characters. The sadomasochistic part of the story just felt like an attempt at putting a new twist on a typical love story.

This novel would work for romantics who are interested in S&M. There's definit

The thing that made this book so good is that the author made the H/h's kink very hot. I like BDSM although I'm mire a fan of the D/s as opposed to the S/M part of it. However, the erotic pain and edge play that the author so amazingly described really had me pushing past my comfort zone to enjoy the root of the story. There's someone out there for everyone a d this story really made that fact hit home. While I'm no pain slut, I really wanted to throw myself at Master V's feet a couple of times ...more

I enjoy books with a BDSM-related plot and the premise was different from anything I've read before, but the author's true skill lies in characterization. I'm not into S&M as a general rule, yet these characters compelling enough to keep me turning the pages, and I finished it in less than 24 hours. From a psychological perspective, these characters were well-written and motivated, and their internal conflicts were the driving force between the will-they, won't-they suspense, rather than any ...more

Funny, sweet, sexy story. Intelligent protagonists who each have their own baggage, but they're able to work through their personal issues like adults. (Adults with flaws, sure, but we all have those.) While Victor and Shiloh's physical relationship is graphically portrayed (with frequent use of the riding crop), what made this work for me with the time and importance they both placed on having honest, respectful communication. I feel like the potential JSB has shown in some of her earlier works ...more

I'm rarely in this predicament.

Hurt Me So Good was an engaging BDSM happily ever after. I enjoyed the characters, the scenes, and the romance. I surprisingly didn't find the sadism off-putting or abhorrent at all...but that said, it did nothing for me in the smutty tingles department. Which at the end of the day can't be helped and I don't feel it detracts from the quality of the story. Yet this is erotica, so how should I weigh this? So 3 stars because I enjoyed it, but no more since that enjo

I keep hemming and hawing over the rating for this book. Though SM isn't my favorite aspect of bdsm, especially, hard-core pain, I enjoyed the presentation. Pop culture aspect of the show and the quick almost glossy explanation of Victor's family are two parts that didn't work for me. His epiphany was too easy. I really liked the fact that it addressed issues the Dom needed to confront in order to make it work. It's a nice flip of the usual perspective of a SM relationship. Plus the cha

I enjoyed this book because it opened my eyes to S&M, but it just didn't do it for me. The chemistry between Master V & Shiloh was definitely there, but the author focused the sex scenes around the pain aspect & seemed to really skim on the sex part of it. Also, there seems to be something in Shilohs past to lead her into this type of BDSM but I never seemed to get the answe to that. The storyline was good though which kept my attention. Just an ok read for me.

Nothing wrong with this book. Well written and a creative plot. Rating not based on the quality of the book, rather personal taste. While I very much enjoy BDSM books. It was all about the pain, very much a SM book and I just wasn't wowed by it. Their "play" seemed very repetitive to me he whipped her with the crop and then they had sex. More focus on the crop and less on the actual sex. After a while I started skipping the sex scenes.
