Janice (jamasc) | 60011 comments Wow! I think Anne wins the prize! What a great haul. :)

I tried! We were pulling into the shopping mall to shop at Trader Joe's in Vegas. It's a must-do any time we go to Vegas with my sister. I spotted a used bookstore in the same mall. It was a no brainer for me. I jumped out and spent the entire time in there. The owner even took me next door to their "annex" and let me rummage through their stock that hasn't been moved to the store.

I ended up with:
Endurance: Shackleton's Incredible Voyage
Out of Africa
A Town Like Alice
and Cemetery Dance

I was hoping to find more of books on my world tour list there, but wasn't successful. After a while, I said that I'd better head back to the store and pay for my purchases because my husband would likely be walking in the door asking, "Is there a woman hiding in the shelves somewhere?" We walked out the door and I saw my husband walking towards us. "See, what did I tell you!" LOL! I could have spent hours in there.

Thanks Janice. It's a little embarrassing, but I've been back since and bought more books. Can you see me blushing?

Valerie | 95 comments I just got The French Gardener by Santa Montefiore & The Rose Garden by Susanna Kearsley

message 257: by Valerie (new)

Valerie | 95 comments I know... I thought that too when I realized that both books had a "garden" in the title! LOL

I just picked up several audiobooks from Audible's $4.95 sale: Skippy Dies (which I also have as a paper book), The Drunkard's Walk: How Randomness Rules Our Lives, Master and Commander, and The Filter Bubble. Plus I, Claudius for my sweetie.

I debated about Master and Commander and I, Claudius. Then I decided to give my Visa a break and downloaded [book:11/22/63|12035084] using a credit.

message 260: by [deleted user] (new)

I'm saving my credit in case nobody gives me 1Q84 for Hanukkah!

I decided to read that book rather than listen to it. 1Q84 is 49 hours long.

Anne (reachannereach) I found another sale. This one is at Amazon for kindle users:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/feature.html...

I bought The Moviegoer by Walker Percy, The Fountain Overflows and The Birds Fall Down by Rebecca West, The Confessions of Nat Turner by William Styron
and by Leon Uris, QB VII, Mitla Pass and Armageddon.

All of them are lending-enabled!

message 263: by [deleted user] (new)

I have ads blocked so I couldn't say who advertises here (one too many ads that behaved badly made me kill the lot). GR has several audiobook groups where people point out the sales. I quit one after WeRead4You responded to a complaint I made in a thread by seeking out my identity here and figuring out my account information with them, so caveat emptor, but Audible has not engaged in such overeager identity stalking.

Yep, it most definitely was and it will be even more fun opening the box upon arrival.

message 281: by Anne (new)

Anne (reachannereach) BTW, Mikki, the books won't get to you for at least two weeks. They come from Canada via Media Mail.

message 282: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60011 comments Oh, well if they're coming from Canada, they're coming on the dog sled team so don't be looking for them in any hurry. :)

message 283: by Mikki (new)

Mikki Okay, good to know, so I'll just keep whittling away at my TBR pile.

What? We've been talking about it all morning.

message 287: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60011 comments I can't say anything Mikki. I've been shopping myself.

I was awarded $10.00 from Audible (for buying 4 or more audiobooks), so I bought Gideon's Sword. I had to pay $3.99 over and above the $10.00 coupon.

For me it varies. I really like to read in silence, but if I'm getting some noise from a neighbor, even though it's not loud, it distracts me. Then I put on music or HGTV as background to help me concentrate.
