Kat (katzombie) | 2478 comments I've had A Long Way Gone on my wishlist for a long time, so I was happy to finally have an excuse to buy it!

Day After Night is in the first half of my list, so it will probably be 3-4 months until I get that far.

I've also just redeemed some Audible credits and picked up Spider Light, The Things That Keep Us Here, This Perfect World and Eutopia: A Novel of Terrible Optimism - I'm going to try and start listening to audiobooks on my commute when I go back to work - my motion sickness makes it too hard to read on the train anymore :(

message 364: by Anne (new)

Anne (reachannereach) Kat, hope the audio books work out. Commuting is a perfect time to get in some reading/listening.

Shanan (mariahswind) | 9 comments I don't buy new unless it's $3.97 at BAM! But yesterday I visited the local used book shop for the first time and got the following:

Prince Charming
Tears of the Moon
Oklahoma Sweetheart
Web of Love
Carolina Moon
An Important Family(this I've read twice now and since I've read it twice it belongs on my shelf LOL!)

What's great is my total was $5.68!

I think I would really like that bookstore lol.

I think most of us would... I felt like I was going back in time with the prices... so often you can't find a used book for less than $3... she was clearing out Nora Roberts.... 50c for softcovers and $1 for hardcovers... her reason? Because Nora hasn't come out anything new for a while... hmmm... strange concept to me but I am happy to benefit from it! I do believe the store is a hobby.. I asked her if it was paying for itself... she didn't know because her daughter does the finances... funny

I think I would really like that bookstore too!!! Nice purchase Shanan : ) We have a LUBS here but I don't visit there often...she is a bit more expensive than the ones I shopped at when I lived in TN : ( So, I often pick up books at the library sales and at Goodwill : )

WOW!!! Thank you for letting me live vicariously through your second Christmas.

It is now the 5th of January and I haven't purchased anything in the new year. May need to fix that soon...

message 382: by Anne (new)

Anne (reachannereach) This bookstore sounds like a great find. You'll have to make a detour on all your errands to go by this place on a regular basis. What fun!

Great idea about the trade-ins. It's such a shame that NYC has so few used book stores now--most shuttered because of the giants (which I never go to). Can't wait for you to start Steinbeck!

message 386: by Mikki (new)

Mikki Judy wrote: "Thanks, Mikki. Are you going to read them with me? "

Most definitely!

I would have thought NYC would have a ton of used bookstores. Too bad!

I know...it is a shame, and then the ones that they do have are older and very small (often with a step to enter) and impossible for me to even get in. Sometimes there are stands set up outside the stores but the really good books are usually inside.

There is Strand which is always a favorite.

Praya, yes!!! You can easily spend the day wandering around in there.

The first week of 2012 has almost passed and I can't let that happen without buying a book. I'll be ordering later today. Kat, I tried...but just can't do it!

I am supposed to be on a book-buying ban too. I said I wasn't going to buy anymore until I started reading what I got. But a couple of days ago while I was waiting on my son I went to the Goodwill and picked up these:

A Child Called "It" (Dave Pelzer, #1) by Dave Pelzer The Lost Boy A Foster Child's Search for the Love of a Family (Dave Pelzer, #2) by Dave Pelzer On Shadow Beach (Angel's Bay, #2) by Barbara Freethy Nebraska! (Wagons West, #2) by Dana Fuller Ross Mimosa Grove (Mira) by Dinah McCall Big Girl by Danielle Steel The Deep Blue Sea for Beginners (Newport, Rhode Island, #2) by Luanne Rice Incident at Hawk's Hill by Allan W. Eckert Having Our Say The Delany Sisters' First 100 Years by Sarah Delany Summer of Roses by Luanne Rice Dear John (screenplay) by Jamie Linden Something Borrowed (Darcy & Rachel, #1) by Emily Giffin Anne of the Island (Anne of Green Gables, #3) by L.M. Montgomery Breaking Clean by Judy Blunt Younger by Pamela Redmond Satran

I also got a bonus prize in one of the books. After I got home and was putting them away I found a book of forever stamps lol.
