I love reading reviews of The Hunger Games -it's always so interesting to see what people think of it!

message 452: by Kat (new)

Kat (katzombie) | 2478 comments That's what makes it so interesting - from book burning to complete screaming, raving fans to 'yeah it was ok'. A great example of how varied people's opinions can be.

message 453: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly | 2033 comments Ohhh all this talk of The Hunger Games makes me want to read the other two books.

I haven't read the Hunger Games yet, but own the first one...I am kind of scared to lol Everyone likes it but I will be the odd ball person who doesn't, just like the Twilight series :)

I didn't want to read it either Robin thats why I held off till last summer to try it. It wasn't mind blowing but for some reason I loved it.

lol I will get the nerve up eventually and get it read. My oldest son read it and really liked it and gave me his copy. I will have to read it soon though cuz he will start asking me about it : )

Kimberly | 2033 comments I used to give my parents books to read, more often then not they'd just let me tell them the stories.

LOL I try to read what my kids ask me to...when they were in school I read whatever they had to read or if it was something they were reading as a class I would go and get it and read it too lol I don't always like the same books they do but I at least try : )

message 460: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly | 2033 comments Maybe it's cause my parents couldn't keep up with the amount I'd read lol.

Could be lol...I tend to be a slow reader. I have a friend that speed reads everything she gets and she can read 3 or 4 books in a couple of hours. LOL I figure if the author took the time to write it I will read it : ) plus I want to just relax, take my time and ENJOY!!!

message 465: by Lori (new)

Lori Baldi I was shopping in Half Price Bookstore over the weekend and bought a few things. The real find was found in their "Collectible" shelves where I spotted an old Betty Crocker Cookbook that I used to own and use frequently. Copyright was 1979. My original disintegrated over the years and I've got most of the recipes that I loved on recipe cards in my recipe box. But the book I found was in wonderful condition and I couldn't resist snatching it up for $8.00. I also picked up Child 44 & Nights of Rain and Stars. Surprised that I didn't own them already. They were both on the clearance shelves at $2.00 each.

I may have to break down and read a zombie book just to find out what the attraction is. Kat, what would you recommend for a newbie?

Weeeeeell....for a newbie I'd recommend
World War Z: An Oral History Of The Zombie War - it's more of a social commentary and is written interview style with different survivors (scientists, reporters etc).

If you like a bit more 'action' then something by Jonathan Maberry is the go - Dead of Night: A Zombie Novel is my favourite of his. He also has a young adult zombie novel Rot & Ruin (I haven't read it but I haven't heard a single bad comment about it).

If you like more focus on human relationships with a touch of zombies Dead Living

If you want to be totally submersed in an intense zombie book, try The Dark Trilogy

If you want some strong female protagonists (zombie books are almost always male oriented), The First Days.

And that's just off the top of my head. Maybe I have a slight obsession ;)
