The forever stamp is a first class US stamp that is valid for whenever you use it. It never declines in value nor does it expire. It is a perpetual stamp. When the cost of postage goes up, if you have forever stamps, you don't have to buy 1 or 2 cent stamps to make up the difference of the old postage rate. It's value is whatever the cost of postage is for a first class one ounce letter at the time of use.

YW..I love them. I have a couple of books of forever stamps so if the cost of postage goes up I am still good to go with the forever stamps : )

Mikki It's 12:15 so I made it a whole week into the new year w/o buying a book--it was killing me.

So a few minutes ago I purchased:

Travels with Charley In Search of America by John Steinbeck Maman's Homesick Pie by Donia Bijan Sightseeing by Rattawut Lapcharoensap The Emigrants by W.G. Sebald Earth and Ashes by Atiq Rahimi

That might last me for a bit...

Kat, how do you find the freebies? I don't have a Kindle but do have an Amazon Prime account to save on shipping and they give deals for a PC Kindle which I downloaded.

Such self-restraint, Mikki. One whole week without buying books! Well you made up for lost time with some great purchases. The only one that I've read is Travels With Charley which I really liked. Enjoy. :)

Mikki Thanks, Anne, but I was hoping to interest you in reading The Emigrants by W.G. Sebald in our "spare" time. :)

I just downloaded Metis Traveler on the Red Road for free from the Jungle Search website. When you click on a book's link, it takes you to Amazon.

Mikki Shannon wrote: "On my kobo I just bought Alice Munro's Best: Selected Stories and uploaded The Count of Monte Cristo"

Shannon, Alice Munro is one of my favorites. Have you read any of her other stories?

message 429: by Shannon (new)

Shannon (sianin) | 453 comments I don't read short stories very much but have read the odd one here and there. This is the first collection that I have. (I know, Bad Canadian). Dare I say I have only read one Margaret Atwood (because I didn't enjoy it that much - the writing was wonderful but just not my type of story). AND since I am in confessions mode, I also have not liked Mordecai Richler (I only read Barney's Version and was not that taken with it).

Having confessed my sins, I can say that there are many Canadian authors that I have truly enjoyed and some that I will go back to and try again because I find my tastes change as I "mature".

Re the short stories. I thought they would be perfect on the Kobo to have for those times when I only have a certain amount of time to dedicate to reading and I could not think of anyone I would rather read in short story format (unless it would be Alistair MacLeod - I believe he has short stories)

message 430: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly | 2033 comments I bought these for $11.90
Society's Most Disreputable Gentleman (Wellingfords, #5) by Julia Justiss Dragon Blood (Hurog, #2) by Patricia Briggs Lord of the Highlands (Highlands; Veronica Wolff #4) by Veronica Wolff Prince Charming Doesn't Live Here (The Others #10) by Christine Warren The Surgeon (Jane Rizzoli & Maura Isles, #1) by Tess Gerritsen
and Darren bought me
The Fiery Cross (Outlander, #5) by Diana Gabaldon brand new in Oversize paperback for 4.95 :)

message 432: by Shannon (new)

Shannon (sianin) | 453 comments Darn. I just lost my whole comment. :(

OK here it goes again.

I don't normally read short stories but have read one or two of Munro's but not a whole collection. I thought it would be good to have some short stories on the Kobo though for times when I only have a certain amount of time to dedicate to reading and could not think of anyone I would rather read (except Alistair MacLeod) and I will probably add his book Island : The Collected Stories of Alistair MacLeod) as I find his writing to be magnificent!

I read the first 2 1/2 Outlander books - loved the first two but the third one kinda lost me. May go back and reread them and continue with the series one day seeing as I have them all!

Shannon (sianin) | 453 comments Kimberly wrote: "I read several of her short stories last year in my lit. class, I liked her better than Atwood...so far I only like one of Atwoods`s works."

Lol, my original comment was a big confessional about how I don't like Margaret Atwood (well I like her writing but not her stories) and I am such a bad Canadian but I also don't like Mordecai Richler but that is based on only one book. Having said that there are many Canadian authors that I really do love. So hopefully I am accepted in my own country!

message 436: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly | 2033 comments I don't like Modevai Richler and I'm Canadian too!

Janice (jamasc) | 60012 comments Don't you feel better having confessed your sins, Shannon? LOL! For absolution, you will need to read a book by Farley Mowat. It just might fit in with our January theme read of Roughin' It. Actually, that may not be much of a penance.

message 441: by Shannon (new)

Shannon (sianin) | 453 comments No, no pennance at all. I like Mowat and haven't read any for a while! Perhaps some Margaret Laurence. I haven't read her stuff for quite a long time and I think only read The Stone Angel which makes me wonder why I only ever read the one...

I wouldn't if I were you. You could have some transactions on your card that aren't yours. We're all sure that they aren't books! :)

What I meant was that your credit card company wouldn't tag book purchases by you as suspicious. They KNOW you buy books. When I get those calls it's always about something I don't normally buy - one time it was a train ticket in India while I was at home in the U.S..
