Lis | 4037 comments Nice purchases ladies... I can honestly say I walked in with my list and since they did not have what I wanted today. I walked back out without any new purchases. They did extend the 10% discount thru the 10th.

AH | 2271 comments Awesome books, Daffodil. Lucky you!

Cindy (eclecticfirefly) (eclecticfirefly) | 1237 comments OMG Lis - how on earth did you manage that???? Of course, I'm never orgainzed enough to actually HAVE a list, just a sorta-kinda idea in my head.

message 754: by Lis (new)

Lis | 4037 comments Actually Cindy they were a couple you had mentioned this weekend in your comments. I will have to check B&N this week for them...

Cindy (eclecticfirefly) (eclecticfirefly) | 1237 comments ARRGH!!!!! I'm an enabler.......the shame of it all.

message 756: by Alyssa (new)

Alyssa (lyssad87) | 974 comments Now I'm curious. What books have you been mentioning? Enable me, please!

Cindy (eclecticfirefly) (eclecticfirefly) | 1237 comments How am I supposed to know???? She didn't tell me either!

Daffodil (daffodil--ripcranberry) | 2098 comments You need to keep going back and checking Borders. Especially if it's a popular one. The one in Champaign (which is a campus town) is still getting shipments from the warehouses. Which kind of makes sense. This isn't like the other closings. They wouldn't send new stuff then, because there would still be stores open somewhere else. This time they have to clear the warehouse too. Also, a couple of those books I bought were new releases and they wouldn't have been able to put them out until the street date hit. So go check. Not that I'm another enabler or anything. LOL.

I've been in a romancy PNR funk lately... I wanted a few more Darker reads so you mentioned: Pretty When She Dies: A Vampire Novel, Hex Hall and the Charley Davidson seriesFirst Grave on the Right. Also The Forest of Hands and Teeth, I just didn't realize they were YA. Try again tommorrow.

message 761: by Alyssa (new)

Alyssa (lyssad87) | 974 comments Oh, Daffodil.... You are killing my bank account. I'm gonna be living on ramen and sandwiches for the month or something.

Now I'm gonna have to go back to Borders in like a week and a half after I get paid again....

Cindy (eclecticfirefly) (eclecticfirefly) | 1237 comments Lis - The Forest of Hands and Teeth is the only YA novel of the 3.

I'm reading Pretty When She Dies: A Vampire Novel now. Definitely not YA. Plenty of blood and gore, some sexual situations and actual sex, although it isn't graphic.

First Grave on the Right was a fun read. LOL funny in some spots. Charlie is great! Really snarky - I love that.

God I'm glad I'm not the only one who gets in Book funks around here, I haven't been able to get into anything at all so far this month, I think I'm just burnt out on PNR/UF books and I'm looking for something totally different to clear the air, anyone have any suggestions to throw my way?

message 764: by Sandra, Kindle Operator Licence Required (new)

Sandra | 25908 comments Well, what about mystery, any of the In Death's interest you?

Then there are many, many historicals. Amanda Quick immediately springs to mind. She is Jayne Ann Krentz and I love all her books, often referred to as comfort reads around GR. Her historicals are particularly good, funny and interesting, with plenty of quirky characters.

message 765: by Josie (last edited Aug 10, 2011 04:40AM) (new)

Josie | 1967 comments I know how you feel Kat. I had that the end of last month and now I've been going through loads of non-paranormal YA, can't put the stuff down. YA's never been my fave genre but I am just on it at the moment. Some of the ones I've read recently:

Beautiful Disaster by Jamie McGuire (complete guilty pleasure)
Heart on a Chain by Cindy C. Bennett (don't judge the cover, hardcore stuff on the inside, want to marry the main guy, you can read the beginning on GRs)
Waterfall (River of Time, #1) by Lisa Tawn Bergren (historical time-travel, free on Amazon, very enjoyable)
The Lightning Thief (Percy Jackson and the Olympians, #1) by Rick Riordan (fantasy)

Going to read in the next day or so:

Maggie Come Lately (The Pathway Collection, #1) by Michelle Buckman (free on Amazon) Cross My Heart by Katie Klein Eternal Eden by Nicole Williams Reason to Breathe by Rebecca Donovan Cascade (River of Time, #2) by Lisa Tawn Bergren The Musician's Daughter by Susanne Dunlap The Sea of Monsters (Percy Jackson and the Olympians, #2) by Rick Riordan Finding Sky by Joss Stirling (I think this is sort of paranormal)

message 766: by [deleted user] (new)

So many interesting suggestions thanks for all the great Ideas, I just downloaded Pride and Prejudice , i'm not one for old time classics but I think I'll be giving this a shot and I'll probably go with something in historical romance, what I have no idea but I forsee lots of book browsing in my future :)

I love Amanda Quick's books and I have recently begun the Arcane series so am reading Jayne Ann Krentz as well.

Sandra | 25908 comments They're all good Lauren :)

I've been reading her stuff since the early 80's, some of which is dated now, but it takes me back to when I was a teenager, so that's good. LOL.

message 769: by Lis (new)

Lis | 4037 comments Borders just increased discounts again so I picked up a few more, mainly PNR since thats were the deals are. And neener neener neener to those "hide the book" on different shelf people, I found your stash... They are putting out newer releases, so ya kinda have to keep checking back.

Vanished (Greywalker, #4) by Kat Richardson Labyrinth (Greywalker, #5) by Kat Richardson Crave The Moon (Nightcreature, #11) by Lori Handeland Hex Hall (Hex Hall, #1) by Rachel Hawkins The Vampire Voss (Regency Draculia #1) by Colleen Gleason The Vampire Dimitri (Regency Draculia #2) by Colleen Gleason The Vampire Narcise (Regency Draculia, #3) by Colleen Gleason The Mammoth Book of Paranormal Romance 2 by Trisha Telep Veil of Shadows (Lightworld/Darkworld, #3) by Jennifer Armintrout

Alyssa (lyssad87) | 974 comments Sooooo...... I was naughty today.... *sighs*

I went to Borders again.... And B&N, but that's cuz I just HAD TO HAVE some books that Borders didn't have....

As much as it pains me to say it.... (Bye-bye, Borders) Hopefully it was the last time. I found stuff I'm interested in, but only a few of them were ones that I was super badly looking for. Basically, I just bought books to buy them. I'm sure I'll love them, but I probably should've saved the money and just gotten them from the library.

So, without further ado, here's my book haul.... *sings* TA-DA!

From Borders:

My Soul to Keep (Soul Screamers, #3) by Rachel Vincent My Soul to Steal (Soul Screamers, #4) by Rachel Vincent Blood Magic (Blood Journals, #1) by Tessa Gratton The Good, the Bad, and the Undead (The Hollows, #2) by Kim Harrison Original Sin (The Seven Deadly Sins, #1) by Allison Brennan Seduce Me in Dreams (A Three Worlds Novel, #1) by Jacquelyn Frank

Dark Need (Darkyn, #3) by Lynn Viehl Private Demon (Darkyn, #2) by Lynn Viehl (I managed to not get the first book of this series, because I had no idea what the first one was. Darn books for not listing the titles of the series in order.)

Into the Dark (Lords of the Underworld, #.5, #3.5, Plus Bonus Material) by Gena Showalter Heart of the Dragon (Atlantis, #1) by Gena Showalter Jewel of Atlantis (Atlantis, #2) by Gena Showalter The Vampire's Bride (Atlantis, #4) by Gena Showalter (Gosh darn it! I didn't buy the third book! *sighs*)

Ok. Nobody let me near Borders again! Please! Haha. At least I already bought my school textbooks, otherwise I'd be going without for a while.

And from B&N:

The Darkest Passion (Lords of the Underworld, #5) by Gena Showalter The Darkest Lie (Lords of the Underworld, #6) by Gena Showalter The Darkest Secret (Lords of the Underworld, #7) by Gena Showalter

Ok... I'm just gonna admit it. I totally have a serious girl-crush on Gena Showalter. Lol.

*stares at massive pile of new books* Maybe I should have bought a bookshelf with the books.... They should throw those things in. Buy so many books and you get a bookshelf free! That would be wonderful.
