Well...the internet doesn't really help the wallet either. I keep finding that my fingers hover over that buy button way too often.

I can resist internet buying....but when that book is in your hands.....whispering in your ear....."Take me home with you. I'm lonely. I need you to read me." it's a little harder for me.
I had a fantastic day book shopping at Chapters. I came home with:
and I also got a couple ebooks as well:
and I also got a couple ebooks as well:
I raided the $1 bin at Big Lots:
Then went to Wal-Mart and couldn't resist:
Now I'm in mourning because over the next couple months the remaining Borders bookstores will all be closing. The nearest one is the next town over, but I still liked to go every few months just to browse. Supposedly this one will be closing in about two months.
Did you guys hear - Amazon just bought Book Depository. I wonder what will happen to my free shipping that I loved so much.http://www.guardian.co.uk/books/2011/...
Yep, I'd heard. They are supposed to be keeping the free shipping. We'll just have to wait and see. *sigh*
Hmm... I really hope prices won't go up now they've done this :SIn the last day or so, I've bought in paperback:
Kindle download:
(free though)
I have to admit I'm slightly depressed since my go to bookstore is Borders, its 5 minutes from work and I go there a couple times a week with coupons... So in a panic to use my bucks, coupons and a few gift cards I have.I picked up
trilogy. Also,
and
. I scoped out the shelves and fingers are crossed that they run good discounts to liquidate vs. packing it up... I'm hoping for some good deals! So sad!! Guess I really need to get an eReader now for sure.
The closest Borders to me is 1 1/2 hours away. Ours closed several months ago. The last day everything was about 90% off, but it was a race to get to the books before they were packed up. I did manage to find a few good ones, but I literally got there about 5 minutes before they closed the doors!
Well, just went to check out my wishlist at BD US and the prices have skyrocketed :( Prices on BD UK are generally the same as they were last night. I run wishlists on both sites as prices differ and I always, of course, went for the cheapest.
I had a few books lingering on the wishlist that I think I'll buy now in case prices go skyward.
OK checking BD US today, prices are back to normal. Must of been a brain explosion that they've fixed.
I think they had a currency issue because at the time the prices were not in $ but pounds. But Phewww!!!
Well I changed it to AUD & the prices on some books were more than $10 extra, on others $3. So they sure had major probs. Thankfully it looks all betterer now.
I just got Prophecy of the Flame and Prophecy of the Flame - Book Two both autographed! Didn't realize she was a local author!
OK - I got myself to a Borders store yesterday. I didn't think the discounts were that great - 30% for Romance books - OK, but 10% for Sci-fi & Fantasy, YA and kids? That's not a discount. I did notice that the Kobo ereaders were selling for around $80 for the regular and a little more for the touch screen model, so if you're looking for an ereader it might be a good time.
I did buy
AH - when our Borders closed, the discounts got progressively higher the closer to the end. On the last day, everything was at least 90% off.
Lucky you (for the discounts, not for the store closing). We had to go to VT to get to the nearest Borders (ha ha, definitely no pun intended), so it's not like we can go every weekend. We also went to B&N and checked out the Nook color. Nice little toy! Too bad they don't ship to Canada.I did score some used books in Stowe at their library book sale, so overall I did well.
Now my nearest Borders is at least 1 1/2 hours away. My DD asked if I was going, but I don't think I will. If I was gonna be in either city anyway, I would stop by. But, I'm not gonna make that kind of trip just to get books. There are plenty of places around here to shop at. Besides, with the cost of gas, the price of those "discounted" books goes way up!
Oh, I agree. We were down 2 kids, so we took kid 3 for a day trip to Stowe and Burlington. Did some walking, got rained on, did some shopping, did lots of eating, then had a lovely dinner and went to the bookstores. Kid3 loved the Nook - he played angry birds the entire time we were at the store.
There is a method to my madness - I present the trip with "Let's go hiking in Vermont" - Then the weather gods cooperate and cause buckets of rain to fall - so we need to go indoors, lol.
Back to Borders but the discounts are still only 30% romance and 20% Fantasy. But the little book fairy on my shoulder brought out the paranoia of the books not being there later so picked up...
these were listed on the SOS bookshelf, so got them too
Yep, I blame the book fairy too!Shame the hubby doesn't believe in her just like he doesn't believe in the tooth fairy :D
****** OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG ******Terry Goodkind has a new book coming out in the Sword of Truth series......
LOL! I'll have to let hubby know - that's another of his fave series. :)I recently snuck in a coupl'a eBook purchases:
Steph you'll have to tell me about Diana Rowland's new book! I am really looking forward to reading it! :D
So.... Today I was sort of in the vicinity of Borders, and I hadn't yet been there since they started closing. I was only planning on getting like 3 books if I could find them. Two of them I couldn't find, but I did get them at B&N, cuz I was going to die if I didn't have them. (Well, not really die, but maybe a drooling vegetable if I had to wait like a week for them to come from the library.)So, I felt kind of guilty (for like 5 minutes....) after going to Borders, cuz I bought way too many books. (I should be saving my money for some new school supplies/clothes. Whoops.... Next paycheck, I guess.) The book buying high that I've got going on right now has pretty much canceled out any guilt I'm feeling. Yay! :-D
So here's what I got at Borders:
And these two are the books that I got at B&N cuz I would die if I couldn't read them right away:
I was bad this weekend too! Borders sent out an e-mail saying it would be the last time you could use your Borders Plus card for an extra 10% off. Still bitter about paying for it at the end of May then finding out I wouldn't even get to use it for a full 3 months let alone the year it was supposed to be good for. I showed them though, I bought a lot of books and got my 10% off worth. LOL.Romance, 40% off
SF/F 25% off
Clearance 25% off of 2.99
