message 12001: by Jan (new)

Jan (auntyjan) Hi everybody. I haven't popped in here for such a long time that not many will even remember me! I first joined Goodreads four years ago after breaking my arm....I couldn't do much at the time and and this group and the other groups I joined meant so much to me at the time. Then as my arm got better I gradually got busier ...back to rollerblading and iceskating and tap dancing and I have also taken up line dancing and circle dancing ...so I haven't been reading as much unfortunately. We live in Perth but my 22 year old daughter is moving to Melbourne next Monday so I am feeling a little sad and anxious. She is hoping to find work there in retail or hospitality. Like one in three in her age group she is neither in a job nor full time study. So I hope she can find something. She has some friends there so I'm hoping it will all work out. I had some practice at this empty nest experience when she went overseas last year...but this time it could be permanent........my oldest was born in 1979 so for nearly thirty five years there has been someone around....but wait a minute....my middle child...no longer a child but a thirty two year old son...has just returned from Europe and is currently staying with us so it's not quite an empty nest....
Recently read Letters from Paris and also The Girl with No Name both of which I highly recommend.

Now there used to be a way of highlighting the titles and showing the book in question but I'm using an ipad app and not sure if I have those options on the app ...perhaps someone can help me with that or do I need to use the laptop to get all those features?

Hi Jan, welcome back. The bit you are looking for is right here above the comment text box...see add book/ author...if you click on that when you want to add your titles and their authors ;)

message 12003: by Jan (new)

Jan (auntyjan) Are you using the ipad app? Because on mine the only thing appearing above the comment box is cancel or done and the only thing below it is the keypad?

message 12004: by Jan (new)

Jan (auntyjan) So now I have logged in the old fashioned way, not using the app. Just so I can show you the books....but why does the app not have this feature?
Paris Letters
The Girl With No Name: The Incredible True Story of a Child Raised by Monkeys
Hope this works....fascinating true stories...loved them both

Go Hawks! (Very nervous though Angela. Let's hope Hodge can keep our boys together). Looking forward to nice cosy night in front of the telly.

Welcome back Jan:) Great to "see" you again! You poor thing - I sympathize with you regarding your daughter leaving home, and especially moving so far away. You'll have to take lots of holidays over here on the East coast;)

Tracey Alley (traceya) | 485 comments I'm another lost sheep returning to the fold. Life has been crazy busy with so many things I'm surprised my poor little head didn't explode :)

Good to be back though.

Katie that must've been so devastating and draining for your family. It's such an incredibly helpless feeling when a loved one, particularly a young child, is ill and there's nothing you can do to fix it. So glad to hear he's doing well now.

Amazing that even the tiniest fruit, like 1cm in diameter, will have a pip or even two!!

Don't worry Angela. We can happily sit below Port and let them have all the pressure, then we can perform at full strength in the finals :)

Sorry about Hawthorn, Angela. I'm a Pies supporter myself but definitely not one eyed or fanatical but the Hawks are a favourite team. I usually barrack for them if they're not playing against Collingwood, of course!!!
Tell me did you end up seeing Wicked? Your thoughts?

message 12026: by Angela (new)

Angela | 351 comments I did! It was really good, very clever story line and amazing talent. It wasn't my favourite - nothing surpasses Jesus Christ Superstar - but it was well worth it. Have you seen it?

Yes I've seen Wicked. It's one of my favourites but I've never seen Jesus Christ Superstar. I missed it last time it was out here in Melbourne. I can imagine that would be quite awesome too. Glad you enjoyed it. :)

Our cumquats are just on the 'turn' to orange, made marmalade with last year's crop, but last week made seven jars of lime marmalade from our lime tree - first crop in about eight years - just sugar and fruit - quite sour, but I like sour for marmalade :-o)
Perhaps this years cumquats will be in about ten days . . . where the sugar . .

I was also thinking of Mr Wigg on the weekend Marianne and how I really enjoy the seasonality of the garden. My neighbour has a Macadamia tree that overhangs our fence and this year it has a bumper crop. The neighbour doesn't even use the nuts so is happy for us to collect them.
I've already collected two buckets full and was thinking macadamia shortbread would be good. Anyone got any other good recipes for using macadamias?

God Michael don't get me excited like this. All we'd need is for Kurt to sign another fraudulent contract and Buddy to punch someone and we'd be walking it in.

Long as you keep time for your buddy read!! Mmm, I can just picture you sitting there with your book and a nice cuppa with a selection of Macadamia Shortbread & Macadamia Choc Chip cookies ;) ...after your toast and Cumquat Marmalade breakfast of course.... for me that would be a bottomless cuppa! Ahhh, life's good :D

Tracey Alley (traceya) | 485 comments I'm having a very relaxing day today. Tomorrow I'm into hospital to finally have the surgery on my back. I'll confess to being a bit nervous at the very long list of possible complications but I also know I've kind of run out of time and really can't avoid having the surgery any longer. I'll pop back in as I can :)
