It reminds me of the library books in the Unseen University in Ankh-Morpork. (Terry Pratchett) They were dangerous so watch out Sally!

Don't hold your breath waiting for a published piece of work - but it actually incorporates part of a short story I am working on in a creative writing course - been writing and re-writing it for a year now and still not 100% happy - goodness only knows when/if I will be - and then imagine how long it would take to write a book if this is how long I agonize over a short story!!!!

Yes, Salvos, they even have a tag on it to say when it was tested. Saw bread machines for $12 and $15 too.

It would be a good word to describe some of the recently popular historical fiction books which are based on some facts.

Yup, it's so you are so annoyed that you think about bloody smoke alarms all day and so remember to change the battery.

A good whack with a broom is the best way to treat those little suckers - well, that's what I've found in my widow-hood.

Ours always goes off in the middle of the night too - my puzzle is that it is a wired one, which also has a battery. So WHY does it run out when it's connected to the electricity?? I've never been able to work that one out! Plus I can never figure it out in the middle of the night either - the whole thing gets taken down and hidden in a towel in the laundry so we can't hear it beeping!

B the BookAddict (bthebookaddict) for Mother's Day.

Your Mother is always with you.
She's the whisper of the leaves as you walk down the street.
She's the smell of certain foods you remember,
flowers you pick and perfume that she wore.

She's the cool hand on your brow when you're not feeling well.
She's your breath in the air on a cold winter's day.
She is the sound of the rain that lulls you to sleep,
the colors of a rainbow.

She is Christmas morning.
Your Mother lives inside your laughter.
She's crystallized in every teardrop.
A mother shows every emotion .....
happiness, sadness, fear,
love, hate, anger, helplessness,
excitement, joy, sorrow...
and all the while, hoping and praying
you will only know the good
feelings in life.

She's the place you came from, your first home,
and she's the map you follow with every step you take.
She's your first love; your first friend,
even your first enemy,
but nothing on earth can separate you.
Not time, not space...not even death!

Yes! There is a law. It's written in the same book that says that if a house alarm mysteriously goes off, it must happen when your husband is out of town and it must happen when it's dark outside.

Sally906 | 90 comments Dymocks at Casuarina Square here in Darwin is closing down any day now - her lease was due to be renewed and she has opted not to renew it. This is mostly because huge renovations are going to start and her shop is one of the ones that is going to be gutted to make way for a Myers. She can be relocated but will be disrupted for over a year and she thinks now is the time to go.

We still have a QBD bookshop (as well as Big W and K-mart) but the owner of Dymocks says the way of the future in her opinion is one bookshop only at a shopping centre - gone are the days were you got 3 or 4 different ones.

We also have one independent bookshop in the Mall in the city. So Darwin has two bookshops only.

It is a shame to see this happening, even though the remaining stores like QBD and the big department stores have good bargains, they don't carry the range of books that the Bookstores have/had and the experience is lost.
The same thing happened with Nurseries when the bigger, combined hardware places gobbled them all up. Now, not only is the experience of roaming round a lovely Nursery lost, but we now have to grow what they decide to supply....if it isn't half dead already from neglect and ignorance.
Also, neither of the options offer the service of experienced advice should you need it.
Being an avid gardener and reader, both of these issues have affected my enjoyment of my leisure time markedly.

Sally906 | 90 comments Plants hate it when I wander around nurseries - they draw back their leaves and branches, close their flowers and try to look as sick as they possibly can so I won't pick them. I have brown thumbs - I can kill a plant quicker than a snap frost. I don't know why but a plant comes in my garden and its doomed. Trees and shrubs are fine - it is just the pretty things.

My parents recently gave me a 'bowl of lettuce' so that I can have fresh lettuce whenever I wish. It's a lovely idea, and so far the lettuce is still alive, but they forgot that giving me a plant is tantamount to condemning it to death...
