Carolyn | 9869 comments Following on from the story of the cat who rescued the little boy from the dog, a friend who's a doctor sent me an article from the Medical Journal of Australia (March 3, 2014). It's about a 72 year old man with cardiac disease and diabetes who went to his doctor with a badly scratched face and reported that his cat had taken to savagely attacking his face every night.
Further investigation revealed that the man had severe sleep apnea and his heart and breathing would stop for seconds at a time while sleeping. Once treatment for his sleep apnea started, the cat stopped attacking him, the need for CPR no longer required. The article finishes on the note that other groups should take note of this case and recommend prescription of a cat for other patients at risk.

Vale Mary Stewart. She was one of the most widely read fiction writers of our time. The author of twenty novels, a volume of poetry, and three books for young readers, she was admired for both her contemporary stories of romantic suspense and her historical novels. Born in England, she lived for many years in Scotland, spending time between Edinburgh and the West Highlands. She passed away on 9th May 2014.

That is sad but she had a very long life! I read her Arthurian books back when I was at school! Loved The Crystal Cave.

Yes, it's a pity I didn't have Goodreads back then. I'll bet there are thousands of books out there I have read but never recorded.

Yes I agree - the amount over the years that I've read pre-Goodreads would take my total way up!

Yes, I've had a few lately. One sent me a lovely email how she was down in the dumps about her writing and my review picked her up to get back into her second novel.So sweet.I'm in awe of all authors. I have no imagination. That's why I read!

Liam || Books 'n Beards (madbird) Couple of things from today. First, this was on display at Aberfoyle Park library today;

I wish I was this productive when I was 10.

Second, this was waiting for me at the post office;

I need to stop buying pretty, expensive books.

message 11977: by Elaine (new)

Elaine | 2001 comments Just had to share with my book buddies. Last night my daughter, a friend and I went to see Wicked here in Melbourne. It was absolutely amazing. We had second row seats and so were able to see it all so clearly. All the expressions, the costumes, the makeup. If there are any theatre lovers amongst you here and you have the opportunity to see this awesome musical, I would highly recommend it. We saw it back in 2008 but if it's possible, this production was even bigger and better!!

Oh, Angela you're going to love it. I'm sure. I think it's about 3 hours. But you really don't notice the time and honestly you just don't want it to end. Please post back after you see it. I'd love to know what you thought of it.

Katie (ieishanalani) Hi everyone :)
I haven't been on in a long time (apart from updating my books).... how is everyone?
I have had a long few months, very busy now with three kids, my baby boy is now 8 moths old and gave us quite a scare when he was 5 months!! he got meningococcal somehow and was in hospital for 2 and a half weeks in an induced coma.. he is now doing very well and has no long term side effects :)
I have also become a tupperware consultant so have been very busy with that also :)

Welcome back Katie! It's great to "see" you again, though I'm really sorry to hear about your son! How absolutely terrifying for you all. So glad he came through it alright, and there are no long term side effects from it. A shocking thing it is!

Congratulations on becoming a tupperware dealer too...I did tupperware for 20 years, both as a dealer and a manager. I had a team of 25 people at one stage and we were hugely successful. I remember one week of sales (in record breaker week) I personally sold $10,000 worth of tupperware - this was about 25 years ago, so the equivalent would be a lot more now! I did 14 parties that week!!! The worst part was packing it all the following week!

Marianne (cloggiedownunder) | 9989 comments Really enjoyed that new ABC drama/comedy with Bryan Brown and Sam Neill, Old School. I am going to taunt hubby with the fact that it was sooo good and he missed it before telling him I recorded it, although with the iview option, it won't have quite the same effect. And tonight we have the return of Last Tango in Halifax, another goodie: this is not helping my readathon totals!! And tomorrow, Gently is on again, last week's episode was also great.
