Fall Challenge 2010 Completed Tasks (do NOT delete any posts in this thread)

I listened to Prince Caspian during my commute and really enjoyed it. I'm finding the series to be a charming, fun story.
I wasn't impressed with The Lost City of Z. I found it full of filler material and speculation. However, the last 70 or so pages was excellent.

Mao's Last Dancer (approved in the task help thread)
while not about a typical immigrant experience, this told the story of Li Cunxin who was a chinese defector to the US in the mid-1980's after leaving Communist China to study ballet with the Houston Ballet. It talks of his experiences when he first arrives in the US; how he discovers that China has lied to him and others about capitalism, learning to read (Black Beauty was his first book) and other typical immigrant experiences

25.3-"Daylight Savings"
I chose option C for my first book. I read Eve Ensler's "The Vagina Monologues" which was 224 pages. This book was very informative and eye opening. I thoroughly enjoyed it.
I chose option D for my second book. I read John Boyne's "The Boy in the Striped Pajamas." I have read other depressing books but having seen the movie before reading the book, I knew the outcome. However, this was an incredibly touching story told through the eyes of a child. It is depressing but pretty much anything about the Holocaust is depressing. Out of all the books I've read on the topic though, it is one of the most depressing...but still worth reading.

#30.3 Dlmrose's task: Shipwrecked: Two books I'd want to find:
The Lost Recipe for Happiness by Barbara O'Neal
This is basically a story of survival, so Elena's will to overcome disability & pain should be good motivation & encouragement for a shipwreck survivor
Barbara O'Neal is a GoodReads Author
Son of the Morning by Linda Howard
this is also a tale of survival - Grace survives hardship & fear for a year while on the run from those who murdered her husband & brother, and must get very creative in her survival techniques. Each time I reread this book, I find more details I missed, so she could be helpful in more ways than one - after all, those survival supplies won't last forever!

15.05 LITERATURE MAP
Typed in Jane Austen, and got Nick Hornby, and read his About a Boy
20.06 SEEING YOURSELF IN A TITLE
The Lincoln Lawyer, by Michael Connelly (first name=RACHEL)

Princess Academy (from The Ultimate Teen Book Guide Challenge)
I ended up liking this book way more than I expected. A solid fantasy story, and I wouldn't object to reading more books set in the world Hale created (not that I believe those books exist, but if she wrote them, I'd read them).
15.10 Second Chances
Shakespeare Makes the Playoffs (fits task 5.5 Take Me Out to the Ballgame) and One Day (not chosen from Recent TBR Additions poll)
"Playoffs" was on the approved wiki list from the 5.5 help thread, and the book was about baseball, poetry, and the protagonist's relationships with his girlfriend and his crush. One Day was just brilliant. Astoundingly brilliant. Highly recommended. I'd give it six stars if I could. It's Just. That. Awesome.

Both books were very enjoyable. I'd love to visit Australia one day. I found the description of the landscape and the critters fascinating.
