I just started getting into YA. I'm really enjoying the genre. I actually stopped by the library earlier today and checked out The Book Thief by Markus Zusak and Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher. I've heard great things about The book thief, but Thirteen Reasons Why is a mystery to me. Has anybody here read it?

Nope, but I really want to read it. It's been on my TBR for a while.

I haven't read Thirteen reasons why but I have heard great things about it.

message 204: by Jared (new)

Jared Quist Well I'll let you know what I thought.

message 205: by Sashana (new)

Sashana Thanks, Jared.

message 206: by Heather (new)

Heather | 504 comments JenC, I think that is how Stephanie. I do agree with her how Stephanie acts at times. I just like the humor and think that my life isn't that bad. At least I can cook and I don't have someone trying to kill me.

message 207: by Lisa S (new)

Lisa S (kasey_k_fan) Jared, I did read Thirteen Reasons Why and thought it was a good read, but to me it was also lacking something, just can't put my finger on what it was. It will make you stop and think though.

message 208: by Jared (new)

Jared Quist I just read the summary and it sounded really interesting. As long as it keeps me hooked, I think I will enjoy it.

message 209: by Lisa S (new)

Lisa S (kasey_k_fan) Oh it will. I read it in about 6 hours.

Amanda (peanutty222) Lisarenee wrote: "I loved A Certain Slant of Light. It's really good."

I gave it 4 stars out of 5, I really did like that it was original.

Amanda (peanutty222) Sans wrote: "I had a tough time getting into the Stephanie Plum books. Got about 1/4 through the first one and just didn't pick it up again. How long did it take you guys to get into the story?"

It took me until book 3 or 4 to really get into them. My favorites are book 3 through 8, 10 and 12. Every book is pretty much the same story told over and over again with different characters; a different mystery to solve, but I thought they were one one of the funniest bookes I've read, that is pretty much the only reason I stayed with them. They get funnier as the series goes except for 14 and 15, I thought they were pretty boring compared to the rest. I call them my trash reads ; ) You don't really gain anything by reading them, but they are good fun!!

I just finished [book:By the Time You Read This, I'll Be Dead|6609549]. It is a decent book, a little frusterating and the ending is...well...you'll see...

Amanda it drives my husband crazy when I read them, because I'll be sitting there and out of nowhere I start laughing. Then when I try to explain why I'm laughing he just can't understand

That's funny cause I do the same. I try to read my husband the part and explain it to him but he never gets it.

message 216: by Jen (new)

Jen (jencroup) I'm glad I'm not alone there.

message 217: by Lisa S (new)

How many hours is that? I'm reading it now, less than 200 pages to go. I requested Revolution by Jennifer Donnelly because someone said that it was one of the best books they read this year.

message 222: by Lisarenee (new)

Lisarenee | 7659 comments Shay, I hadn't heard of Revolution. Let me know how it is.

I don't know usually a cd lasts an hour for me but the first cd lasted more like 1.5 hours and I didn't finish it before I decided to turn it back in on Saturday because there was no way I would have finished it, I think I'll just read it instead.

message 224: by Amanda B. (new)

message 227: by Sans (new)

Sans Niquae, I loved Not Quite a Husband and The Further Observations of Lady Whistledown. What did you think of A Secret Affair?

message 228: by Sashana (new)

Sashana I’m going to the library tomorrow!

message 229: by Shadow Jubilee (new)

Shadow Jubilee (uhqs) Sans, I enjoyed A Secret Affair but I did have a few problems with the "hobbies" of both hero and heroine, and although I liked the gift the prince gave the hero, I was a bit disgruntled that the author had chosen that route. There were other little things, but I have to run out to do something before it gets too dark, and I am forgetting little details already so if you'd like, I can try to expand upon them later. I'm not very good at summarizing so I apologize in advance. :)

message 230: by Sans (new)

Sans Not to worry, Niquae, you did a great job. I'm finding more and more that Mary Balogh has great ideas but I have too many nits that make me not enjoy the story very much.

The graphic novel of Coraline is separate... there's an actual novel of Coraline. But, Neil Gaiman wrote graphic novels (Sandman) before he became known as a novelist. The graphic novel for this looks intriguing because he did it in collaboration with the same person he did Sandman with.

message 245: by Sashana (new)

Sashana Ohh, because I could have sworn it was a book, so it's a book and a graphic novel. Good to know, I never read a graphic novel before.

message 246: by Rachel (new)

Rachel (treychel) | 1484 comments Ha, I did not know it was either, even though I just picked it up. I thought it WAS the novel! (Obviously, I did not flip through it) I am not big on graphic novels either, but I am trying to read some of them. Good way to do it, I guess. Lol. I will have to go pick up the novel also!

message 247: by Alyssa (new)

Alyssa (shyluck13) Forever... by Judy Blume , Meridian (Fenestra, #1) by Amber Kizer , Fairy Tale by Cyn Balog , Never Cry Werewolf by Heather Davis and Losing Faith by Denise Jaden are all some YA I just took out. I'm already reading the first and am actually enjoying it for a change. I feel a sick young love going on.

message 248: by Lauren (new)

Lauren | 931 comments Losing Faith sounds really good.

Shadow Jubilee (uhqs) Sans wrote: "Niquae, I loved Not Quite a Husband and The Further Observations of Lady Whistledown. What did you think of A Secret Affair?"

Sans, after putting it off for as long as I could (was too busy rereading others), I finally read Not Quite a Husband. It wasn't fluff. It was angsty (something I don't particularly care for too much). But, I loved it. I'll be buying myself my own copy. :)

Now to read The Further Observations of Lady Whistledown before the book is due in 3 days...

message 250: by Sans (new)

Sans Yeah, Not Quite a Husband was NOT what I was expecting when I first picked it up, but it was so good that I couldn't put it down until I finished it.

Lady Whistledown is fluffy but very good. It should help ease that angst. ^_^
