I don't think I'll ever have the problem of not having enough books to do a challenge.

I just finished Blood Promise (Vampire Academy #4) by Richelle Mead (★★★★★). The series is young adult urban fantasy, heavy on the romance (but not heavy on sex). The series is primarily about Rose Hathaway, a dhampir (half-vampire) in training to become a guardian for her best-friend, a Moroi (good full vampire).
In this particular book Rose has left school and is in Russia/Siberia to full-fill a promise she made in a previous book. It's difficult to discuss without tons of spoilers, but lets just leave it that the promise results in an incredibly emotional journey for Rose, not to mention action-packed as she fights off Strigoi (evil vampires) along the way.
I normally don't have problems putting a book down, even when it's really good, but this one barely left my hands and got read in less than 36 hours despite having a attention-hungry 1 year old. I LOVED the storyline, though I was hesitant about how well the relationship btwn Rose & Lissa could be maintained over the course of 500 pages when they're continents apart. It turned out that didn't detract from the story at all and I loved some of the new characters that were introduced (esp Sydney & Abe).
I'm eagerly awaiting for the next installment, Spirit Bound, to come out in paperback (Feb 2011).

I was a a tad disappointed with Outlander, after all the good I heard about it. I didn't really start to get into it till the end. It definetly has case of "never ending" symptom... and it felt slow. I'm a pretty fast reader and it took me 2 weeks to get through! I will continue the series at some point.

Thoughts on the Sookie Stackhouse Series by Charlaine Harris
Last week I got the DVD's of the first 2 seasons of True Blood, and it marathon watched them. Then I found out my friends really liked them, so I could use the first one for this challenge (I also really wanted to know what happened in season 3, since that isn't available here yet). So I went and borrowed them from a friend, and then it all sort of got out of control.
I got the books from a friend on friday, and here we are, monday afternoon and I've devoured them all. Technically I finished reading them yesterday, but I needed some recovery time. I still feel woozy. Marathon reading isn't always healthy.
Because of the woozyness, I'm not sure how I feel about it. It's the first series where I prefer the Vampires over the Werewolves. Alcide was very awesome at the start, but how he manipulates her later, ewww. Also, the whole we mate to breed part, not really my thing.
I liked the tvshow well enough and I enjoyed the books, but I'm not sure which versions I prefer. It depends. I love both Erics for very different reasons. Book 4 is by far my favorite, and I sometimes wish they would have left it with Sookie and Eric the Amnesiac being happy with eachother.
They got back together way later (a whole series of boyfriends and kisses inbetween) I know, but it isn't the same level of happyness.
I feel dissapointed, or maybe a little weary. They won't be happy forever, Sookie has been tortured to nearly dead a little too often, and the cheeryness is slipping away. I fear that in the end she'll just end up with Sam, living a slightly boring life...
Pffff. I'm not being coherent. I guess what I feel is that Harris can keep writing books like these, wherein Sookie is happy for a couple of days, major evil strikes and then it's pain and angst and disaster for the rest of the book. So I think, the moment she and Eric break up for one reason or another, I'm going to have had enough.
So, since I think reading 10 books in 3 days is a challenge in itself, I decided to throw my list around a bit and fit in the books I've read, since I've had my fill of PNR for this month now I think...
