For the party I am bringing Kool-Aid, which is loaded with sugar, so I read The Sugar Queen. I really, really enjoyed this book! I chose Kool-Aid because I have three small children and I always try to pick something I know they will enjoy when we have to bring a dish. I hate it when we go places and there's nothing that appeals to the kids. And what kid doesn't like Kool-Aid?!

Sorry to be ignorant, but what is Kool-Aid!?
I've never heard of it! I don't think we have it in the UK.

5.5 Balzac und die kleine chinesische Schneiderin. by Dai Sijie
5.9 The Association Read this on the plane to Edinburgh and back to Nuremberg.

I picked Not the End of the World by Kate Atkinson. One of her favorite books was Alice in Wonderland, so I read that book as well.

This is a fun, unique group and you may expect to hear more for me now that I'm in the game! Sorry it took me so long to actually post.
5.9 Get Caught Reading
I read Real Men Last All Night in various coffee shops, a bar, and a doctor's office or two. Yes, I put a plain black cover on it;-)
and
10.8 Under the Sea
I read Wit'ch War. It has whales (but the author calls them Leviathans).
and
25.5 Helen's Task
A. My favorite Genre is fantasy. I have always loved stretching the bounds of reality, dreaming of magical worlds and strange creatures. I read Halfway to the Grave and really loved it. Not only is there a butt-kicking female protagonist with a temper and a potty-mouth, but she falls in love with an incredible, sexy guy who has fangs and a British accent. Who could ask for more?
B. My VERY close second favorite is historical fiction. I like learning about history and imagining I'm at the site of famous events or places that no longer exist. I read Dragonfly in Amber. I confess it was a re-read but it has been 16 years and it was a completely different experience this time. Excellent details of intrigue at the French court a decade before the Revolution. Oh and there's a gorgeous guy in this one, too
So I guess I'm starting off with 5+10+25= 40 points

Kool-Aid is basically flavored sugar powder you dissolve in water to make a drink. I don't know if you have powdered lemonade in the UK, but if you do, it's basically like that.

For this task find and read a book whose title follows the formula "The (insert noun here) Who (insert verb here)...". (EXAMPLE: The Man Who Ate the 747).
The Cat Who Robbed a Bank - Lillian Jackson Braun

20.2 - Kiri's Task - A Trip To The Past
For this task you need to read a book that was either written OR takes place before 1450 AD.
I read: Terry Jones' Barbarians by Terry Jones (Paperback, 320 pages) which is a non-fiction history of the barbarians, taking place approximately from 100 BC to 500 AD. Terry Jones was a member of Monty Python. This book was only OK, 2 stars.

Reviewed All Together Dead on 05/2010
Read- All Together Dead by Charlaine Harris
Review- All Together Dead was not my favourite of this series but it is not the worse of this series either. I enjoyed the submit and the description that Harris provides. I enjoyed the new characters that were brought in and the plot to bring the Vampries down yet again. I always enjoy the yummy Eric and I look forward to seeing more of him in the future books.
30.5 - DLM Rose's Task - Virtual Block Party
Signature dish- Blueberry Tarts
A) Strawberry Shortcake Murders by Joanne Fluke
B) Blueberry Muffin Murders by Joanne Fluke
I am not sure what makes my dish stand out from others; everyone seems to enjoy the fresh blueberries with my homemade tart shell. I guess it just tastes homemade and fresh and reminds people of grandma's baking.

Thanks for that. No I'm pretty sure we don't have that here. Doesn't sound like we're missing much! I do seem to remember as a child buying something in the sweet shop that you could mix with water to make lemonade, but I haven't seen anything like it for about 50 years!!

Ahhh Summer...Sun...Swimming...Travel...Vacation! Or more likely a staycation for some of us in these tough economic times. Who cares.. we have BOOKS! And one of the best things about books is that they can take us anyplace or for the purposes of this task...ANYWHEN! For this task you need to read a book that was either written OR takes place before 1450 AD. (Translations and Re-Tellings are acceptable).

It must be a southern thing because people down here love it! I think it's gross too. My kids love it, but I don't let them drink it very often b/c it's nothing but sugar. That's funny about the bug juice thing. We actually have a kids' drink that you can get in the gas stations that called bug juice and it tastes just like koolaid.

I am looking forward to the A Team - because it brings back childhood memories, so I read Inside Delta Force: The Story of America's Elite Counterterrorist Unit by Eric Haney about the army special forces.

your favorite genre/type – Fantasy: I read James Potter and the Curse of the Gate Keeper I love fantasy/wizard type books – they are always quick to suck me in and they keep me wanting to read all the way through. This specific book is the second in a fan fiction series that is just amazing. It is only available in PDF – but I read on my Kindle and that worked fine. I really enjoyed the Harry Potter Series so this is a great continuation and I recommend to any HP fan.
second favorite genre/type – Classics: Freckles I love reading classics. I mean, they are classics for a reason. This is one that I’ve never heard of, but once I finished it I immediately started to recommend it to people. The descriptions that Gene Sratton-Porter uses help really paint the picture of the Limberlost Swamp. I am excited to read more by this author. Anyone who enjoys classics and natural history will love it.

Honour Thy Father by Lesley Glaister (4 stars)
This is the story of four sisters held captive by their abusive father. The read is unique because they don't escape his clutches to obtain happiness. Instead, their insanity grows. A dark and compelling read.
I'm thankful to my family for encouraging me to think for myself, to appreciate other cultures, and to read anything I can get my hands on.

25.5-Share the Summer Love- First favorite genre: Literary Fiction:The Lacuna and Second favorite genre Apocalyptic/Distopian: Extras.
Total: 90 points.
I absolutely loved The Lacuna! I found myself rereading several sentences and passages because they were so beautifully written. This is probably the reason I like literary fiction, I love when someone can write a sentence that just makes you fill awestruck. I also enjoyed the historical aspect of this novel. I gave this book 5 stars.
I usually really enjoy apocalyptic and Distopian novels. For this challenge I chose Distopian and read the last of the Uglies series. I was underwhelmed! I gave it two stars. It just didn't have much of an impact on me.

Twilight - I caught the movie on cable the other day and it inspired me to pick up the book and reread it. It's not the best written book in the world but it is definitely a fun read. :)
