25.3 - Jennifer N'S Task - Virtual Foreign Vacation
I read
A. The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo by Stieg Larsson - set in Sweden, a country I'd love to visit. AND
B.Out by Natsuo Kirino, originally written in Japanese.
Actually the two could just as well be flipped, since I'd also like to visit Japan, and Larsson's books are translated from Swedish!
25.7 - Wendy's Task - I'm Passionate About...
I’m fortunate enough to work in a field that I can get very passionate about – law. And, as a lawyer, one of the things that I get really worked up about is the Supreme Court, since its influence is so monumental.
For my non-fiction book, I read Packing the Court by James MacGregor Burns. Fascinating (to me, anyway) look at how the Supreme Court has always been highly political – the current court is certainly nothing new in that regard.
My fiction book was Supreme Justice: A Novel of Suspense by Phillip Margolin, about a murderous plot to get rid of a Supreme Court justice so that the court can be rigged to get the desired result in a case coming to the court. This one was a fun read, fast moving, great for conspiracy theorists. The same general type of book as a John Grisham or David Baldacci book.

One of my favorite summer songs is Vacation by the Go-Go's. I love 80's music and growing up when summer vacation would roll around I would jam to this song. Who am I kidding, I still jam to this song when I take a vacation from work. It might also have something to do with the waterskiing in the video.
15.10 - “Other Things May Change Us, But We Start And End With Family.” - Anthony Brandt -Grandmothers
Growing up I spent a lot of time with my Grandmother which I loved. We spent a lot of time doing crafts, cooking, baking, going on trips, and watching the Price is Right. I cherish the time we had together and miss her a lot.
25.9 - Donna Jo's Task - It's Time For The Swim Suit Edition. Tankini - My Horizontal Life, Uglies, Fat Girl: A True Story, and Who Moved My Cheese? An Amazing Way to Deal with Change in Your Work and in Your Life

15.3 - Books And Blogs - Belle de Jour: Diary of an Unlikely Call Girl the blog is at www.belledejour-uk.blogspot.com.
This was an interesting story about a woman working on writing her PhD thesis while being a call girl. Some of the stories were very unique, towards the end of the book there were parts that were a little slow. Originally this was written anonymously but the author revealed who she was in 2009.
15.4 - Learn Your Numbers - My number is 5 and so is James Patterson. I read 1st to Die. My characteristics are expansiveness, visionary, adventure, and the constructive use of freedom so I read The Hunger Games. Originally I picked this book because I thought it was an adventure participating in the Hunger Games and that was one of my characteristics. After reading it though I have to say that Katniss was clever, analytical, and a very quick thinker which were also things mentioned in the description of a 5.

Read The Last Song by Nicholas Sparks so now I can see the movie :)
30.4 The Science of Crime
Read Naked in Death by J.D. Robb, and Burglars Can't Be Choosers by Lawrence Block. I found Lawrence Block on a list of crime authors, and I think I'll keep reading his books!
30.5 Virtual Block Party
I don't have a particular signature dish, other than I am always asked to bring desserts. So to this party I decided to bring Whacky Cake, which everyone loves because I use fudge as frosting. I just completed task 25.6 by reading The Ten Best Days of My Life.
My song that makes me think of summer is "Summer of '69" by Bryan Adams. It connects to the book for option D because the title of the books shares key lyrics with the song ("best days of my life" from the chorus). It reminds me of summer for fairly obvious reasons, being that summer is in the title of the song. Plus it just has a fun melody and I can't feel bad when I hear it! I associate feeling happy and having fun with summer.

I read Her Fearful Symmetry by Audrey Niffenger and The First World War by John Keegan for a total of 881 pages. I hated the Niffenger book giving it 1*. However, the Keegan book was pretty good. I gave it 4*.

10.9 - Based on a Subject You'd Like to Learn (Cooking)

20.2 - Kiri's Task: Written/Set Before 1450 AD
Lily of the Nile by Stephanie Dray GR Author (5 Stars)
Under the 20.2 Task Help Thread, Kiri approved me using this pre-released book for this task. It is about Cleopatra's Daughter ^.^
25.5 - Helen's Task I: Favorite Genre (Fantasy)

While libraries would categorize MacAlister's books as romance, this one has a STRONG fantasy element with romance weaved in. Steampunk fun!
25.5 - Helen's Task II: 2nd Favorite Genre (YA)

Most Young Adult novels that I'll read are a quick escape from my bigger novels. This one I was pleasantly surprised. The entire series was quite touching (if a little unbelievable but I ignore that for story flow). And I would recommend it to anyone else hunting for a YA trilogy.

Finished 15.9 -
A. A book whose title in someway reflects who you think you are; that describes you in someway.
I read Queen of Babble by Meg Cabot. 3* This book title describes me, because I talk A LOT! Especially if I know you pretty well, I can't shut up!
B.Explain if and how the main character (presumably whom the title refers to) does or does not remind you of yourself.
Lizzie reminds me of myself, because she has a lot of trouble keeping secrets. I've gotten a bit better about this, but I always have to tell someone if I find the secret to be really interesting. She seems a bit impulsive though, which I definitely am not.

June 7, 1893 marks the date of Gandhi's first act of civil disobedience. In memory of this event...
A. Read a novel that takes place in India (EXAMPLE: The God of Small Things), OR written by an author who was born in India (EXAMPLE: Aravind Adiga) , OR a non-fictional book about the country (EXAMPLE: In Spite of the Gods: The Strange Rise of Modern India)
AND
B.Tell us about something you would like to change about the country/state/city where you live and what you have done or would do to see it changed.
Slumdog Millionaire (Q&A) by Swarup
I live in Massachusetts in Chestnut Hill with the best schools and restaurants and the most tolerant of environments. I would want the people to be friendlier and less formal, like it was in the Midwest. There is little spontaneity here. I of course do my best to be spontaneous.

15.9 - “He Who Knows Others Is Wise. He Who Knows Himself Is Enlightened.” - Lao Tzu
I consider myself to be a good cook, so I read A Cook in Time by Joanne Pence.
Like the main character, I am a passionate cook. Other than that and the fact that we're both looking for a job, I really have nothing in common with the main character. She's rich and seems to be somewhat spoiled. I'm broke and not spoiled.

I think it is a must read. It is the second in a trilogy and it is just as good as the first. I read Peaches for another task.
The books bring out the realities of being a teen. The decisions you have to make, the right and the wrong ones. It shows you how you can be friends with many different kinds of people. I like this author's writing style and plan to read other books by her in the future. Most notably, the third Peaches book. Love and Peaches
So this makes me 105 points and I couldn't be happier for breaking the 100 mark. Hopefully there will be more this last month. :)

20.1 - The Most Improved Player - Deirdre's Task - Sweltering Summer Days - My favorite ice cream is homemade peach so I read Peaches.
25.5 - Helen's Task - Share the Summer Love - I love humorous stories so for the first book I read Not Tonight Honey, Wait 'Til I'm a Size Six. I am a person that really enjoys a good laugh and this book provided a few.
The second book I read was Pretties. I enjoy young adult books. Each time I start a new YA book or series I often go back to my childhood and I find this very comforting.
20.6 - Supporting Goodreads Authors - Nicole CA's Task - List Maker - I read The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo(Big Book). I really enjoyed this book once I got past the first 150 pages and I'm looking forward to reading the next two books in the series. I'd say this is a must read book because it is a great story and it is told really well. It was also really interesting to read the background of the author, it's a shame he was never able to know how successful his books became.

Task 25.5 Share the Summer Love
A. My favourite genre. I chose contemporary fiction as my favourite genre. The majority of my reading is contemporary and mostly books published in just the last 5 years. I like this genre as it encompasses a very wide variety of topics, themes and language style. For this task I read Her Fearful Symmetry. I found the book very enticing, drawing me into it deeper as it went along. It was very strange and eerie and yet thoroughly enjoyable. Surrealism is the general feeling I was left with when finishing the book and it's stayed with me for several days since reading it and I think it will continue to do so. I gave it 5 stars!
B. My second favourite genre. I chose humour for this part of the task. I find humourous books which are factual to the author's life, either laid out as small snippets or as a whole story, really good fun. I think it would be best described as reality humour. Because the books are true stories it adds even more humour to it and I always find myself laughing out loud. I once made the mistake of reading one on the train! My favourite authors of this genre are Danny Wallace and Dave Gorman. The book I have read for this task is Awkward Situations for Men This was written as short chapters of just 3 or 4 pages with anecdotes of Danny Wallace's life. It was very funny and I related to many of the situations (although I'm a woman not a man!). It made me laugh a lot and I'm glad I read it. I gave this book 4 stars.
