I don't know, it's just not something that I really enjoy reading I guess. I love books like the Dragon Prince Triolgy (it's about wizards and dragons and what not) but I just never have liked Harry Poter. Maybe it's Rowling's writing style that I don't like, I certainly like some of the quotes I found on here that are from her books!

message 2602: by Nat (new) - rated it 5 stars

Nat Huh? I never saw lack of quality as the series progressed. I thought with each book the quality increased. I'm not much of a person to really care about that when it comes to a series I loved. And I was 10 when I read Harry Potter, so honestly I didn't look for quality.

message 2603: by J.M. (new) - rated it 3 stars

J.M. Ney-Grimm I thought the series got better as Rowling wrote it. It seems clear to me that she became more skilled as she had more words under her belt. I liked her world building from the start . . . a more modern take on the familiar English tale wherein English children discover a magical dimension to their world. Her vision was fun. But I found Harry as initially presented to be implausible. How could any child, neglected and abused from infancy, be open to friends and respect and belief in the goodness of life the way Harry was? I just didn't believe it. Since Rowling didn't dwell on the early child abuse (merely presented fresh abuse by the aunt and uncle), I let it go as the series went on. And her human relations were more plausible in the later books. But the poor start made me reluctant to perceive the worth that is present in the story. Of course, "reluctant concession of worth" is a far cry from "hate them"! Still, I would be interested to learn the viewpoints held by others who feel there are many more worthwhile books out there than the Harry Potter series. Anyone . . . ?

message 2604: by Nat (new) - rated it 5 stars

Nat I think the series A Song of Ice and Fire is much more worthwhile than Harry Potter. Don't get me wrong, I love HP a lot, but the other series by George R.R. Martin held my interest and it made it to the top series. Yeah the book are like 1000 pages long each, but they move by so quickly. :D Also they're heart wrenching books too.

message 2605: by Nina (new) - added it

Nina OK, a lot of people hate Harry Potter. But, a lot of people love Harry Potter. If you have nothing nice to say don't say anything at all. Why don't you talk about books you do like? Or at the very least, think about other people's feelings and say why you don't like the book without being rude about it. Whether or not I like the series is irreverent.

Kayley Kayla wrote: "The stupid book has no point at all! Only complete idiots would read Harry Potter!"

U honestly need to stop and think about that for a second. Ask yourself some questions: have u read the books? Do u live in a hole? R u insane? Have u even attempted to read the books?
So I think u either r insane or need to stop making enemies. HARRY POTTER FOREVER!!!!!!!!!

message 2610: by Nicole (new) - rated it 5 stars

Nicole Of course there are people who hate Harry Potter. Those of us who do enjoy the series are not idiots. It doesn't help make your point when you call people idiots. It makes people defensive and automatically dismiss your opinion (if they don't agree, those who do agree might not care).

I'd give your opinion more weight if you left out "the idiots" part and then bothered to write why you don't like the books.

Caroline What is the matter with it

BubblesTheMonkey Maybe you are the idiot and we are the smart ones? haha... my sister didn't like the first one because it was too "boring". Yeah effing right.

Mikaela i love harry potter and so do a lot of other people. i really don't like it when people make discussions about books to just have a stab at it. you are the idiot

message 2615: by Amanda (new) - added it

Amanda Well if that's the case most of the people in this world must be idiots! haha! I don't know how old you are but I would suggest if you are young to maybe give it a few years and try again. They really are fantastic. Not everything in life is to everyone's taste but you should never dismiss anybody as an idiot for liking something. Particularly when you're gonna have millions of people on the opposing side!

❀ Sariah ❀ This is a very long discussion. A very long discussion. All because someone said they didn't like Harry Potter. Wow.

You do realize that you sound like the author of this thread right?

message 2621: by Jojo (new) - rated it 5 stars

Jojo Nicholas i am not the author of this thread i have all the books and i want to have all the movies i love Harry potter!!

message 2622: by Sable (new) - rated it 5 stars

Sable No, you sound like the author of this thread because she said that people who like this thread are idiots. You responded by saying that people who don't like it are idiots. Counter-productive right? Just ignore the troll.

message 2623: by Jojo (new) - rated it 5 stars

Jojo Nicholas lol i said ppl who hate Harry potter are idiots ( again my opinion) ITS THE GREATEST BOOKS/MOVIES OF ALL TIME)

message 2624: by Sable (new) - rated it 5 stars

Sable It just doesn't make sense why you would call others idiots for liking/not liking something.

message 2625: by Jojo (new) - rated it 5 stars

Jojo Nicholas i hate others who post stuff about something i love we all do if they said something that they hated and u have a passison for u would do the same thing. i call other ppl idiots cause they are. but then again i have free speech i can say what i want!!!!

message 2626: by Sable (last edited Feb 01, 2012 05:28PM) (new) - rated it 5 stars

Sable This person is most likely a troll. She posted this just so she could get a rise out of people, which is obviously working. If someone said that they hated something I like, I would just shrug and move on. Life's too short to worry about what so and so says about your favorite book/singer/movie.

And that free speech thing is really starting to piss me off. People use that as an excuse to say hurtful things to others.

message 2627: by Jojo (new) - rated it 5 stars

Jojo Nicholas well it is one of our 10 commandments and i agree with u on whoever posted this is getting a rise out of ppl i don't think she;/he knew what they are doing when they posted it. but i am relativly new to this site and i tend to post what is on my mind. i dont' hate my emotions.

message 2628: by Sable (new) - rated it 5 stars

Sable It's not bad to love your emotions/personality. In fact, I like mine the way they are. Wouldn't change them!

Freedom of speech is one of the most important aspects of a successful and happy culture. Because it might be used as an excuse is not a case against it.

Ya that free speech sentence you mentioned there is so 100% true. Or like when people say 'I'm not being a bitch but..' and then say something really bitchy. What if somebody made a really racist comment and then stated 'I don't care I have free speech', are they supposed to get away with that then?! Come on people, have a bit of consideration!

yeh it's like when people say something kinda mean and they add no offense on the end, which immediatley offends you.

Sable, look at it this way, the people who say hurtful things would say it anyway. With free speech, you get to respond. The price we pay for free speech is twofold
1) the dickheads also get that same privilege
2)sometimes you're going to hear/read things that upset/offend you.

Its better than the alternative of not being able to say what you want to aswell.

yeh it's like when people say something kinda mean and they add no offense on the end, which immediatley offends you.

anyone who says "no offense, but..." is the sorta person who comes under the heading of "dickhead"

Don't you think that its a bit mean to call people idiots just beacause they like a book and you don't?

message 2643: by Hazel (new) - rated it 3 stars

Hazel Micaela, the best advice I can give you at this point is Don't Feed the Troll.

message 2644: by Micaela (new) - rated it 4 stars

Micaela Okay so what has the topic changed to?

message 2645: by Hazel (new) - rated it 3 stars

Hazel I'm guessing that the OP was a troll, so the topic was troll induced as it was.

omg is that tom felton in your pic?!

Hazel Of course, the other course of action is to troll better than they do.

For example, the worst insult I can think of to call Kayla is "Twilight fan".
