Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone
discussion
Does anyone else besides me hate Harry Potter?

But after reading the first book, I just..."
I am very proud of you. Nah I'm kidding. But seriously, that was super cool

Either way…WTF??
..."
Tbh i think a lot of people realise that this is a troll or a kid, but either way people love a good argument and they love to tell others how ignorant they think they are. You just gotta let people have their fun, even if that is by ranting on the internet.

No it's fine. I love Sherlock too. Literally, I fantasize over Benedict Cumberbatch. He's sooo beautiffffulllllll

Okay, THAT'S a little unfair. There ARE certain people that simply enjoy fantasies with well-developed characters and the likes, so I wouldn't set the stereotype that every person who has read the series is to autmoatically be considered an "idiot."
But, I digress. I much do not like it myself; I read the entire first one, and then lost interest completely halfway through the second. Perhaps my lack of interest in all this weird, author-deviated whimsical carrying on plays a roll in that, but I couldn't force myseld to read the series.
Although the J.K.'s literary skills evolved over the years, the first few books were written quite childishly, and I didn't think ANY of the characters were all that likeable. The antagonists were my favorites. -_-'

watch the language plz... kids look at things like this... my son came to me after looking here and i wasn't to happy when i found this foul language in front of his eyes... my son is very sad right now... thanks to you

If your son is too young to hear adult words, then he shouldn't be on the internet, or at least a book forum open to all ages, where censorship is frowned upon, and language of any variety is welcome.
If your son is "sad" at a word (think about it, a fucking word), then maybe you haven't adequately informed him as to what words are.

do you have kids?

Sorry but you don't get to control other people, only your child, if you don't want him upset limit his internet access to children's sites. Goodreads is not, nor does it pretend to be, a children's site or family friendly so don't complain when it's not, your recourse is to not come here.
Before you ask I have two kids and they are not permitted on anything other than kids sites without supervision.

It's true that they're only words, however, they can alienate you from those around you, and seriously insult people, intentionally or unintentionally. Plus, some of them put things in your head that are inappropriate.

Although, for the swear words, I must say that a) Goodreads is not a site for young children, and b) everyone has a right to language.

My brother read up to the 2nd book...he hates Harry Potter...A friend of mine read 3 of the books...She hates HP...Your point is? How is them not liking Hp pathetic?

If I don't like the first book in a series, I will most likely read the other books, just to see if the series gets better. Take Twilight for example hated the first book, tried the rest. Bad Idea...

thats your opion but not mine

thats your opion but not mine"

Why do so many people seem to find it unbelievable that somebody could hate Harry Potter? I love the books, personally, but that doesn't mean everyone has to.

If you want to know from ONE person why they hate HP, I do because I think the characters are unlikeable, the books are written childishly, the plots are unrelatable, and the entire series' concept is far to fantastical, but no matter which way ANYONE looks at it, just about everything that's been said in this thread so far has been entirely opinonated. Including the previous remark I just made on MY judgement of the book.
Which is why I stand true to the belief that we should all realize everyone is different, heretofore capable of having their own preferences, and get along.

thats your opion but not mine""
I read Harry Potter and I'm smartest in my class so it doesn't mean were idiots

Really? That is one of the most idiotic things that I have heard.

How are they inappropriate? And all sorts of things can alienate me from other people, and honestly, if someone doesn't want to be around me because of a word, then I don't want them around me (unless it's used as an insult, which is understandable, but still childish).
I honestly highly dislike Harry Potter. I started to read one of the books I found when I was rummaging through some stuff and within like an hour I was already starting to fall asleep. I don't like Harry Potter.
