Does anyone else besides me hate Harry Potter?

Meh wrote: "Kimberly and Kayla, you wouldn't hate the series so much if everybody else didn't love it. Admit it. I'm guilty myself. We all like to be different than everybody else."That's a very true comment. I always feel like people deliberately hate against popular books just to be seen as different or outspoken. There are plenty of books which are extremely popular that I've read and have disliked but I always find I can tell what draws people to them. I feel you can always, no matter if you didn't like the story, appreciate a good writer.

When they first came out, I didn't bother with it, and didn't understand what the hype was about. Then I watched one of the movies. I decided to start reading the books... and then I got HOOKED. I am now one of the biggest HP nerds out there!!!! I adore HP. It has so many different meanings to it, and even though the magic and situations are far-fetched, the characters all have realistic qualities that people can identify with.

oh... so you "just don't"... ok
Kayla wrote: "The stupid book has no point at all! Only complete idiots would read Harry Potter!"Kayla, I can't view the books that you've read, but, if possible, I do believe that I am entitled to bashing just one of the books on that list, followed by the "idiots" who read it.
Just think about how you could have expressed your dislike of the books in a way that wouldn't have offended millions of people.
I personally liked 1-2, thought 3-4 were okay and absolutely got BORED through the middle of five. So basically, one and two were the best. Can anyone criticize that?
*shrugs* I personally liked all of them. I'm not criticizing you at all!
Just because you don't like it doesn't mean that everyone else who does are idiots!!! I really liked the books and give them a go, I had a friend who hated harry potter then she read more of the books and now she loves it.
Kayla wrote: "The stupid book has no point at all! Only complete idiots would read Harry Potter!"What do you mean it has no point? If a book has a story, it's got a point and Harry Potter definitely has a point. But just read everyone else's comments, they've said it all.

You are not alone when it comes to hating Harry Potter. The only parts of the entire series that stayed with me after I was done reading were the Marauders minus a certain treacherous rat. Oh, and Snape.
I don't think it's a complete waste of time, but it DEFINITELY doesn't deserve all the hype.

I used to hate HP when it came on Disney back then... now I love it and during the time period when I read the books I became slightly obsessed. It's a wonderful and intricate book with few plot holes.
So from what I gather after reading all the replies after 4 years, people hate this mostly because of the hype. Yeah, reasonable enough. Please excuse my sarcasm.
Kayla wrote: "The stupid book has no point at all! Only complete idiots would read Harry Potter!"Well, looks that you are a very mature and open mind person! you gave to us a very deep reason regarding why people who read this saga are idiots.
Martha wrote: "No, Kayla. You are the only person on the planet who hates Harry Potter. Feeling lonely? "She must indeed feel very lonely!!!! Besides I want to say it to her that, I am that complete idiot that loves Harry Potter!
Nava Cullen wrote: "You're calling a lot of people idiots, and you are the only one who hates Harry Potter."
You have got an interesting surname, Nava!!!! You sure you are a Potterhead? :-)
For future reference, do not insult half the population of the world by calling them idiots...obviously (by reading earlier comments) that did not go over well. Also, Harry Potter...what do you mean by that? The books or the character? And what do you hate about it? Just a bit of advice...add those things into your next comment or discussion!
I don't like Harry potter has several boring parts in it. Percy Jackson is better, fill of suspense and humor. Not a single boring part in Percy Jackson!
I dont care about grammar kid. This is online, not school. Plus Harry potter doesn't have a thing to do with grammar
Hahahahahahahah! Oh Leah that was a good one! And Kimiko good grammar is important in all situations as not not to get taunted as you have just been.
Kayla, you have just insulted thousands of people, including myself.Does the genre of book you enjoy depict your intelligence?
No.
Does a negative comment affect other people's opinions?
Certainly not.
I have debated, ranted, and listed my reasons for giving Harry Potter the title of 'my favourite series' but need I list them again?
People are entitled to read whatever they wish, and just as entitled to enjoy, or dislike them.
This does not make them inferior to others.
Kelseyc wrote: "Hahahahahahahah! Oh Leah that was a good one! And Kimiko good grammar is important in all situations as not not to get taunted as you have just been."Yea w.e I dislik grammar since I was born. Ppl can tease me all they want, but to me, grammar is useless

So, it point is? If u dislike this then don't post.
Idc about that so ha! And my grammar is decent enough for ppl to understand. No puncuations bcuz im using a iPad rite now and don't lik flipping back and forth between keyboards.
Um, Kayla, about your comment about only idiots reading Harry Potter...well, Stephen King had read it, Barack Obama has read it, Micheal Jackson has as well, not to mention most of Princeton University. It even has its own Quidditch team. It's listed on Princeton's clubs on its website. So please don't be so quick to judge.
I'm trying not to mentally stab the original poster...

Kimiko, I am assuming you to be under the age of 13, am I correct?
I respect that you like Percy Jackson better but there is nothing Percy Jackson has that Harry Potter doesnt' have besides the humor, the mythology, and the heroes everyone wishes they could be like. Percy Jackson is the perfect children's book. I love it, but it is mostly appealing to a teenagers and under. It doesn't truly have any intricate plot or true symbolism.
It's all rather...simple. Everything just means exactly what is stated.

Now, now, Kimiko, if Clara feels so strongly about this series that she wants to challenge the person's opinion, then that is a right she is entitled to.

Grammar is important, though. It means the difference between this:
Dear Jack,
I want a man who knows what love is all about. You are generous,
kind, thoughtful. People who are not like you admit to being useless and
inferior. You have ruined me for other men. I yearn for you; I have no feelings
whatsoever when we are apart. I can be forever happy - will you let me be
yours? Jill

So you only read the first book and yet you hate the whole entire series? That sounds mature and logical.
So you only read the first book and yet you hate the whole entire series? That sounds mature and logical.
Why would you even say that? Even if you don't really like the books you don't have to call everyone who does an idiot.
When I first read the Sorcerer's Stone at age 7, I was enthralled by it. The magic, the adventure, the level of it all all added to me and left a lasting impression. I eagerly awaited the next books and they got better as they came, Deathly Hallows being my favourite.
Harry Potter, while not only dealing with magic, explores realistic themes. Harry's being bullied by Dudley and his aunt and uncle is an example.
Sure, the character himself annoyed me when I recently revisited the magical world of Hogwarts. Yes, there are better books out there. But Harry Potter will always be a classic through the ages; JK will be remembered.
Why did you hate the books? Please elaborate. Also, you may be insulting several thousand people on the planet that enjoy Harry Potter. It is for me a brilliant book series and it has encouraged children-and adults-around the world to read.
I end my work on this note: do you want people not to read? Because with this post you may be making people not as excited to read.

I really love the Harry Potter books. I find them enchanting and enjoyable and don't think they are over-hyped. The hype is well-deserved, in my opinion. Here is a series of books that points out differences without judging; encourages love and understanding as virtues; shows solid friendships as a vital part of life; points out consequences to decisions; and is an adventure tale about good vs. evil.
Thousands (and probably millions) of people enjoying a book series is pretty solid evidence there is something redeeming about them.
The series out there that tout as virtues promiscuity, hatred, judgment, viciousness, abuse, and intolerance and are still popular are the over-hyped ones, in my opinion.
