Charlotte (Buried in Books) | 561 comments I'd already planned on reading Pleasure Unbound for another challenge this month, so I've just ordered The Vampire Queen's Servant - just the cover makes me want to read it, thanks Chichimo.

Sorry Charlotte, that was my mistake for confusing you! *hugs*
The asterisks inside the parenthesis was a reference to her age, something for me to note. Outside of it is another note, for me to know that her recommendations were selected.

Ari (moochew12) | 159 comments hi Carolyn F!
I am still choosing what I plan to read, but I have found a few things for you!
1. Twilight- Everyone must read this at some-point. It began as un-kown and then became over-popular. In order to place yourself in the universe of twilight hater or lover, it must first be read!=P (On your TBR)
2. The Time Traveler's Wife- Overlong, but it's a sweet romance. If you want something that thinks for you then you'll enjoy reading this. Plus it is soon to be a classic, since it's in movie format. (TBR Also.)
3. The Mammoth Book of Vampire Romance This is on your TBR. Short stories from wonderful paranormal authors! What not to love?
4. Into the Wilderness- This is some story where she falls for (I think) a native american, who is unsuitable according to her father. It's a historical and quite long. 800 some pages!
5. The Physick Book of Deliverance Dane This story goes between different time periods, those of the Salem Witch Trials and also the early 1990's. It sounds kinda interesting. I may read it myself lol.
6. Prayers for Sale- It looks to be a story about a bonding friendship between a 17 year old, and an 86 year old.
7.Dead Witch Walking I guess most of the people are dying off except the Supernaturals....
Hopefully one of these sounds good, if not I am happy to hunt down something else! (Technically, I should have 8 books here, but ya know.=P) I'll get back to you on which book I choose. Happy Reading.

I've added all four of your recommendations to my wishlist though :)

message 209: by Kassa (new)

Kassa (threeamreviews) | 4 comments I forgot to check this thread so sorry if I'm late!

Here are your recommendations Ashley, hope you like them!

From your TBR list:

1. American Gods by Neil Gaiman. This is really good and it's a fast read so definitely worth your time. The ability to be tongue in cheek and outlandishly humorous at the same time is something not often found. A favorite!

2. Life of Pi by Yann Martel. This is a really stunning book that had me in tears by the end. It makes you question reality and manages to offer an elaborate story, life lessons, heart break, pain, and hope all together in a beautifully written story with incredible imagery. As an animal lover, I had trouble in a few parts but the writing gets you through.

3. Dune (Dune Chronicles, #1) by Frank Herbert. I really love the Dune series. So much I own both the movie and miniseries and the entire paperback collection. It's not all fabulous mind you but this is really worth reading due to the great imagination. If you like science fiction, the Dune series is one that really identifies the genre.

4. A Secret Rage by Charlaine Harris. This was a tough one since I've read everything CH has written and they're all good (well varying degrees of course). I chose this one because it's one of the few stand alone delights thats short, sweet, to the point, and very well written. It offers something really different from her series work.

New to you (which is hard since you have a massive and really good TBR list) but here are a few ideas:

1. Need by Carrie Jones. YA and kind of Twilight-y but not exactly. The girl is better even if it has some similar themes.

2. Meridian by Amber Kizer. Another YA but totally different. If you're looking for something with magic, supernatural forces, but not the same old thing, this is it.

3. Touch the Dark (Cassandra Palmer, Book 1) by Karen Chance. This is kind of your typical UF/kick ass chick fare but the chick is slightly smarter than your average UF and not as bland. The entire series doesn't hold up but this one is fun reading.

4. The Restaurant at the End of the Universe (Hitchhiker's Guide, #2) by Douglas Adams. You can't end this delight with just one!

Hope one of these works for you :)

Charlotte I loved the Vampire Queen series. It's a change - the ultimate alpha female vampire. Hope you like it and Demonica.

message 212: by Penney (last edited May 01, 2010 03:57PM) (new)

Penney (pschoener) | 3553 comments Hi Angelique!

Sorry it took so long to get to your recs. Between my crazy schedule the past two days and sharing this computer with my 16 year old (argh!) this is the 1st opportunity I've had to spend quality time on GR. I haven't even had the time yet to go over your recs for me (but thanks). So without further ado here are your recommendations:

4 from your TBR:
1. Eragon (YA), as you and I are both Harry Potter fans I know you'll really like this series. I don't want to go too far into it but you'll fall in love with the Dragon.

2. Halfway to the Grave (PNR), I see you read First Drop of Crimson and loved it. If you liked their love story, then you'll be gaga over Cat and Bones. And being a vampire fan I'm sure you'll enjoy it. I still can't believe you read 1st Drop before 1/2way to grave! lol

3. Darkfever (UF), I love this series and I usually don't enjoy UF too often, but there's this simmering, taboo attraction between the 2 characters that creates a mystery within a mystery.

4. Outlander, This one does not follow a strict pattern for any of the genres. There's history, romance and paranormal all rolled up in one book. I see it more of an historical novel that centers around one woman who falls in love with an awesome man. You'll be disappointed if you go in thinking straight romance because it doesn't even begin until like the middle of the book. But once it starts, its breathtaking. If you drink in the setting and the history you'll enjoy it much more.

Your TBR is huge and theres so much more I'd like to recommend from your list so if you don't see anything here let me know...

4 Totally New:
1. Memoirs of a Geisha, This I could praise from the highest mountain. Although it is a stunning love story I wouldn't put it in the romance genre. Like Outlander part of the beauty is visiting a whole new culture (within a culture) and era. It's like being immersed in a brand new world.

2. Warprize/Warsworn/Warlord, I had to put all three because this a true trilogy. If you were to put all three books together they would seamlessly create one large book. You can't read them out of order and the story doesn't end till book three. These also don't fit in any one category but there is a strong, wonderful love story with two incredible characters. I adored this series as well!

3. A Hunger Like No Other, Immortals after Dark is a PNR series by Kresley Cole that can't be missed. Technically this is the 2nd in the series but the first one, Warlord Wants Forever is a short story thats part of a compilation called Playing Easy to Get. Hunger Like no Other is different and it's graphic but it doesn't look like that bothers you. The series in general is hilarious although I don't remember this one being as funny. It's still awesome!

4. The Bride, This is an historical romance that made me fall in love with the author, Julie Garwood. You seem to like strong female characters and you'll not be disappointed with this one. That paired with a Scottish hottie makes The Bride a win, win book.

I'm sorry there's no Contemporary romance in there but I'm sure you'll find something you'll enjoy!

Gigi | 1149 comments Rossy!

You always do an amazing job with this challenge. Your booklist is ridiculous and I mean that as an enormous compliment. I want to be like you when I grow up! LOL

So, I may have read like one book on your TBR list. And that is only because my read list is only about 1/20th of yours. LOL I picked books based on books I wanted to read or authors I like and in some cases series that would be Dare-friendly.

I picked 8 from your TBR for you to choose 1 from.

Dead Until Dark by Charlaine Harris
I thought the book was ok. However, I skimmed it. I plan on re-reading it. So, I picked this book because I thought the series could be dare-friendly.

True Mates by Zena Wynn
Someone told me about this book a year or 2 ago after hearing about my Breed obsession. They said that this book was really good and they liked it better than the Breed series. Of course, that was dangling a carrot in front of my nose. So, its on my Kindle PC to read.

Black Ice by Anne Stuart
I've heard good things about this series. Another dare-friendly choice.

Flirting with Forty by Jane Porter
Again, I've heard really good things about the book. Also, the movie was really good--that love interest was a hottie. Anyway, seeing the movie made me want to read the book because in my opinion most times the books are better.

Wicked Ties by Shayla Black
Another book that I've heard good things about. Also on my Kindle PC. Hey, I've got nothing against edgier books or P w/o P (as I'm sure you know). Kick back and enjoy! Hmmm...probably not dare-friendly though?!?! LOL

The Last Song or The Guardian I couldn't decide which one.
So, I love Nicholas Sparks books. I'm still slowly plowing through his library. I've chosen the 2 on your TBR that looked the best. Dare friendly--well for the author as opposed to one book.

What I Did for Love by Susan Elizabeth Phillips
Another author that I've been dying to read and that I've heard good things about. So, another Dare-friendly book more for the author as opposed to the book.

Honorable mention: Catch A Mate by Gena Showalter. I just picked this book because it looked really good! LOL

Ok, let me know if I was way off base and I'd love (and I do mean love) to go through your booklist again!

Hi again Angelique!
There's no need to apologize, what I like best about this challenge is trying something new. I've decided to start with [book:Wild Card|2721318] because I like what I've read of Lora Leigh and I can fit it into a challenge :)

If I have time I'll also give Jewels of the Sun a try. I love her In Death series as JD Robb, but I've never read anything she's written as Nora Roberts. For some reason I have this mental block...but I think its time!

Thanks for the recommendations

message 215: by Angelique (new)

Angelique Anderson | 182 comments OOHHH PENNEY THEY ALL LOOK SO GOOD!!! I want to read them all, but I think I'm going to go with Darkfever as it just so happens I picked it up at the library last week. But if I get the chance you can bet I'll be snatching up halfway to the grave too! I never intended to read the series out of order--I'm usually a stickler when it comes to that--but I didn't know about the Night Huntress series yet. And Wild Card is a great choice, I have no doubt you'll love it, but you should definitely try some Nora's romantic suspense novels. If you haven't tried one, you're really missing out.

But thank you so much for all your suggestions!

Jennefer (jenneferpracticex3) | 247 comments Hi Morgan!

Your shelves are full of books that are new to me so I am going to do my best! Let me know if nothing looks good and I will try again :)

Your TBR: I have literally not read a single thing on your TBR so I am going to have to pick based on what I have heard and reviews...

Pleasure Unbound by Larissa Ione
Looks good! I have been thinking about trying this series for a while myself... if you pick this, let me know what you think!
Pleasure Unbound (Demonica, #1) by Larissa Ione

Princess of the Midnight Ball by Jessica Day George
Looks interesting! Added this to my own TBR!
Princess of the Midnight Ball by Jessica Day George

On the Prowl
I have heard lot's of good things about this. Especially about the Alpha and Omega series by Patricia Briggs that her story in this anthology kicks off.
On the Prowl (Includes Monère Children of the Moon, #4; Briggs Alpha & Omega Prequel; World of the Lupi, #3.5; Dorina Basarab Prequel) by Patricia Briggs

Wicked Lovely by Melissa Marr
Just to throw a YA in the mix. I have this one sitting on my Kindle just waiting to be read. Looks good!
Wicked Lovely (Wicked Lovely, #1) by Melissa Marr

New to you:
Slave to Sensation by Nalini Singh
This is a really awesome PNR series that I think you would really like. The whole series is awesome and this first book especially is a great read!
Slave to Sensation (Psy-Changeling, #1) by Nalini Singh

Blazing Bedtime Stories
This is an anthology of 3 very short erotic fairy tale-ish type stories. I have not read it yet, but I noticed you have Enchanted on your TBR so I think you might be interested in trying this one as well. There have been two or three additional Volumes so I am going to recommend any one of them if one of the others catches your eye more than this one :)
Blazing Bedtime Stories(Harlequin Blaze #447) (Once Upon A Bite; My, What A Big...You Have!; Sexily Ever After) by Kimberly Raye

Butterfly Tattoo by Deidre Knight
For something a little different... this is an excellent and very unconventional romance novel about a bisexual man falling in love with a woman. It is written in first person from alternating point of view between the hero and heroine (seems like it would be hard to follow but it was executed very well). I highly recommend this one! It was excellent and unique!
Butterfly Tattoo by Deidre Knight

Passion by Lisa Valdez
I don't see any historical romance on your shelves which I love so I have to throw at least one in the mix! I have a feeling that if you were going to enjoy a historical, this would be the one! This is a very touching love story with some very intense sex scenes. Right from the get go, I mean like two pages in *bam* sex, with a stranger, in a public place! HOT! And yet it is still one of the most touching romances I have read to date!
Passion by Lisa Valdez

You did really good, Gigi! I have picked 4 that i think would be good for Dares. Thank you!

Were there any books on my library that you thought would be good but was in the "read" shelf? I just noticed that when i deleted one of my shelves, a few books were moved there. Those would be the books without a rating by the way.

message 218: by Gus (new)

Gus | 114 comments Hi Debbie!! Hopefully these picks are okay, I haven't read many on your TBR!

From you TBR:
Undead and Unwed- very cute and quick read!
High Stakes- I loved this series as well! Very fun and light reads.
Wondrous Strange- Starts off a bit slow, but gets awesome at the end, especially if you like faeries.
Bitten- The start of a great series! Not exactly the best one, but really good and they read best in order.

Books you might like:
A Great and Terrible Beauty- Another one that needs a chance in the beginning, I loved it though. It's a great mix of fantasy and historical with a bit of romance thrown into the series as well.
How To Marry a Millionaire Vampire- Super cute vampire romance!
My Horizontal Life: A Collection of One-Night Stands- Okay so this doesn't really fit in with your list, but I loved it and thought it was hilarious!
50 Ways to Hex Your Lover- Another really fun light pnr!

Elke, thanks for the great recommendations! While they are all going to make it to my TBR shelf, I think for this challenge I am going to be reading Visions In White. It's been on my shelf for a while and you just bumped it up for me. :)

I had to base a lot of my suggestions for you on the authors you had on your shelves more so than the books as the majority of the books we share in common I have yet to read.

My suggestions for you:

I saw Lisa Kleypas on your shelf so I would like to suggest her Wallflower series:
I just finished Devil in Winter and loved it! It is book #3 in the series but can be read as a stand alone.

I also saw that you liked the Twilight saga so I recommend Beautiful Creatures by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl. A completely different story, but with a lot of the same elements that were in Twilight.

I saw some Nicholas Sparks on your shelf as well. I loved The Notebook which is currently on your TBR shelf, and also The Rescue. A Walk to Remember is a good one as well and is a bit different from the movie so shouldn't be too redundant.

With regards to Nora Roberts, my favorite books that she's written is the brothers MacKade. The MacKade Brothers: Rafe and Jared & The MacKade Brothers: Devin and Shane I actually re-read this little series quite often.

As for recommendations not associated with your shelf:

If you like suspense, I recommend The Woods by Harlan Coben

YA romance,
Perfect Chemistry

Romantic suspense (and one of my personal favorites), the Ice series by Anne Stuart with Black Ice being the first of five.

And lastly, Blue Aspen by Tenaya Jayne. It's a mixture of a psychological drama with a paranormal YA-esque romance. Reminded me of a cross between Beauty and the Beast, Romeo and Juliet and Gothika (if you can imagine). Very descriptive, and a bit dark.

There ya have it. I hope at least one sounds interesting for you. If not, just let me know and I shall try again. :)

Morgan Hello Jennifer

I am going to pick Slave to Sensation for my first read. You seem very excited about this rec and i like that.

Most of your books are new to me as well.
But I have now added several to my TBR.

TBR recs;
Witch Fire
I really enjoyed this series. The nice thing about these books are you don't have to read them in order.

Dark LoverI am currently reading this one and so far it is a good book.

Blazing Bedtime Stories, Volume IV: Cupid's Bite\I Wish He Might...I haven't read a blaze book yet that wasn't good, and they are quick reads...makes for more books in the month.

Coming UndoneThis one looks like it would be fun I have added it to my TBR list.

Random;

Too Good To Be TrueThis was cute story i enjoyed some of the situations she got herself into.

Wicked EnchantmentI really enjoyed this book and have recommended it to several people. I am looking forward to the next one in the series.

The Book of FateAn interesting story. A little long but neat to watch (read) unfold. Reads like John Grisham books.

Coming UndoneReally you could insert any blaze story here. I have read so many I didn't know were to start when it came to my read list. These books are always quick to read and always leave you happy.

Happy Reading!!! I look forward to see what you pick.

3. Give 8 book choices to your partner. 4 from their TBR and 4 brand new to them author/book. Of course we are only committed to FINISH 1 recommendation; but this will give your partner different options to choose from depending on their reading mood.

Ashley (ashleylaura87) | 444 comments HI Kassa! Sorry I'm late!

Here are my picks for ya!

Although I haven't read any from your TBR shelf, here are the ones that piqued my interest ;)

Your TBR:
1. Hell Cop (Oh yeah!)

2. Someone Is Watching (TBR and wishlisted!)

3. Notturno

4. Island Song

New (Hopefully) to you

1. The Witching Hour; Anne Rice
This is the first in the Mayfair Witches Trilogy. I read it in February and couldn't put it down. Beware, it's a big one! Not sure if you like Anne Rice at all, but I enjoyed this immensely. I haven't finished the rest of the series yet; so I can't comment on it as a whole but I was riveted by this first one.

2. Shiver, Maggie Stiefvater.
Also read this one in February and it's a wonderful YA Paranormal Romance. Written so beautifully it felt like reading poetry at some points.

3. The Golden Compass, Phillip Pullman Considered YA; but I think it just goes above and beyond. Another series; (can you tell I'm addicted?) but it's worth the read.

4. Midnight's Children, Salman Rushdie. One of my favorite books of all time. It really is a must read.

And just for the heck of it:
Stardust, Neil Gaiman

Hopefully there is something in here that will find your interest! If you've already read most or all, just let me know and I can pick some other options!!

Hell Cop by Astrid Amara Someone Is Watching by Mark A. Roeder Notturno by Z.A. Maxfield Island Song by Alan Chin The Witching Hour (Lives of the Mayfair Witches book 1) by Anne Rice Shiver (The Wolves of Mercy Falls, #1) by Maggie Stiefvater The Golden Compass (His Dark Materials, #1) by Philip Pullman Midnight's Children by Salman Rushdie Stardust by Neil Gaiman

KimKirt | 1638 comments Hi Karolina!

Thanks for the recs! Can't wait to check them out, I'll let you know which one (or ones) I pick.

Here are my recommendations for you:

TBR:

Mr. Perfect Murder mystery romance.

Confessions of a Shopaholic I've not read this one, but I've read another by Sophie Kinsella and really enjoyed it.

The Last Song Hard to go wrong with a Nicolas Sparks book.

Forever I saw this on your TBR list and it brought back so many memories!

Other recommendations:

The Book Thief This is considered YA, but I found it to be more then that in my book. Set in the Hitler era about a family hiding a jewish man told from the standpoint of a young girl in the family.

Can You Keep a Secret? I just finished this and really enjoyed it. Contemporary romance.

Suddenly You - Just wanted to throw a historical romance in there since you don't have many on your list.

See Jane Score The hero in this one is HOT, at least in my opinion. Good enough reason for me to recommend it.

Ashes in the Wind Just because when I was about your age I read so much Kathleen Woodiwiss.

Looking forward to seeing what you pick!

N.L. Riviezzo (nlriviezzo) Thanks for the suggestions, Lili. Funny enough I've actually read all the 'new books' [awhile back:] but have yet to put them on Goodreads. :) I'll probably read The Hunger Games since it has been unread on my bookcase for quite awhile.

I'm one of those who haven't yet given recommendations - just waiting 'cause Leah's profile is still set to private. I'm OK with waiting, or I can just give her a 'blind list', if you want. Leah did give me recommendations, so I'm OK there.

Leah (leahkarge) Hey, BJ Rose, sorry about that! I always forget that rule about the profiles. I sent you a friend request so you should be able to get into my profile now.

Thanks for letting them know about my absense, Ang! You're the best *kisses*

OH NO YOU DON'T, ROSSY! Neither Sam nor Gus can have my Syn for a whole day so you can just forget about it! Next month I'll remember to take down my question for this challenge. But you really don't want to threaten me about my Syn...LOL

BJ Rose (bjrose) | 4413 comments Here you are, Leah!

4 From Your TBR
1. I chose one that's been on your To-Read list the longest: Red Handed, the first book in Gena Showalter's Alien Huntress series
2. Shiver by Maggie Stiefvater - I've heard great things about this but haven't read it yet
3. I see LOTS of Lisa Kleypas books on your To-Read list - you've got some great reading ahead of you there! My first impulse was to recommend Mine Till MIdnight first, since that was a 5* read for me. But you may want to read The Wallflowers first, since they do show up in the Hathaway books as well. The first one there is Secrets of a Summer Night
4. Outlander by Diana Gabaldon is a BIG book but a great story. I found I enjoy this series more in audio format - you get to listen to a great Scottish accent for one thing!

New Books and/or Authors
1. I noticed you love the Sookie Stackhouse series, so try some Queen Betsy books by MaryJanice Davidson. The first in her series is Undead and Unwed.
2. You've read Lynsay Sands' Argeneau vampire books, but have you tried any of her funny and fun-to-read medieval books? Two of my favorites are Love Is Blind and The Perfect Wife
3. You've read Jane Feather, so you might enjoy Loretta Chase. Try Lord of Scoundrels, and if you like that, follow it up with The Last Hellion, which I think is my favorite LC book.
4. For something light, try Janet Chapman's Highlander series about 14th C. Highland warriors who are brought forward in time to modern Maine, and of course meet some modern women. First one is Charming the Highlander

Hope you find one or more to tickle your fancy!
