Vivian, I ranted about that book for days. Very much a love/hate relationship. ;)

message 1502: by Vivian (new)

Vivian (_vivian) Glad I'm not the only one, lol.

I was annoying about my rants too. =)

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 827 comments I remember Heather being pissed. I asked, "but did you like the books?" And she said, "I do, but not this!" pretty much.

The series will always have a special place in my heart because it was one of the first UF I had read. Plus, black werecats = awesome.

Ethan...sigh. I loved him.

Heather T (horrorvacui000) | 5931 comments Mod
Sorry. I couldn't shut up about it. I was so pissed I had a hard time reading for a few days afterwards too.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 827 comments Malone was such an ass. Him and his cronie, the guy who attacked Faythe, forgot his name.

message 1507: by Vivian (new)

Vivian (_vivian) This is one of those series I can't read back to back. Need time in between to get over the stupid people, grrr.

message 1508: by Darcy (new)

Darcy (sunnytat462) | 2770 comments I must be the odd one out. I liked the series from the start. Yes some things annoyed me, but overall I did like it. And Stacia, I agree about Ethan.

message 1509: by Tya (new)

Tya | 846 comments I just finished Kiss an Angel (my friendly assist book) and Size 12 Is Not Fat
I adored Size 12 is not Fat. Oh Heather Wells. I listened to them both on audio, actually, and there was a great reader for both. I'm going to start the sequel to Heather Wells any day now, and I liked Kiss an Angel well enough, there were scenes that made me blush as I was zipping down the highways. Even though I knew no one could actually hear what I was listening to when things got...heated...I always turned the volume down and looked around! Embarrassed! And I didn't really like the way Alex always called her "sweetheart" or "angel face" Although, angel face could have something to do with the fact that all of my aunts call me that. So. it was weird to hear it in an amorous setting. The weird connection that Daisy had with her Tiger always drew me out of the story though, I kept wondering if the book was going to take a random turn to the paranormal or supernatural with her ability to speak to animals but it never went there so it just felt out of place to me.

message 1510: by Vivian (new)

Vivian (_vivian) Oh Darcy, I like it, and I even like Faythe a lot, which I think makes me the odd one out. I just found this book depressing and the situations aggravating. Probably a sign of a good series, when the emotions come out :)

Moving back to Harry. Reading White Night (The Dresden Files, #9) by Jim Butcher , and the further along I get, the more I appreciate how well thought out the series is. This is book 9 and if possible, I think the books are still getting better and better!

message 1511: by Stacia (the 2010 club) (last edited Aug 27, 2011 01:56PM) (new)

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 827 comments Darcy, I'm with you. I liked Shifters from the first book, but I know that not everyone did. I found Faythe's growth and journey to be similar to Mac's from Fever, but for some reason she seemed older to me in the first book. She was selfish, but I didn't blame her either. Her family all but pushed her off the ranch by trying to force her to conform so early in life. She needed time to make mistakes.

message 1512: by Darcy (new)

Darcy (sunnytat462) | 2770 comments What both Vivian and Stacia pointed out are the reasons why I like that series. I like when the characters grow and change over the series, it makes them seem more like real people.

Vivian, I took a break after book 4, but once i got into 5 I was anxious to get book 6.

message 1514: by SamBFN (new)

SamBFN | 88 comments I had an excellent book week. I enjoyed everthing I read and would recommend them all.

I read Ruthless (The House of Rohan, #1) by Anne Stuart , Silent in the Sanctuary (Lady Julia, #2) by Deanna Raybourn , and Your Scandalous Ways (Fallen Women #1) by Loretta Chase . I also finished the audio version of Chasing Fire by Nora Roberts . Loretta Chase has become one of my new favorite authors.

Today I have been plunking around on the computer and haven't decided what to read yet.

message 1515: by Samantha (new)

Samantha | 432 comments I love Raybourn's series, glad to see you did, too.

Heather T (horrorvacui000) | 5931 comments Mod
I'm reading the Chase book right now and I just want to thank whomever suggested it. I was just starting to get frustrated because none of these period pieces ever take place in Italy and I'm obviously obsessed. I had been wondering why no one had ever talked about Venice. There are a million ways to set up a romance with the courtesans.
If anyone knows of any other Italian romances let me know.

Tya | 846 comments I just finished listening to Ramona and Beezus. Good Lord, Ramona is a stinkin' pill.

message 1518: by Jessica B (new)

Jessica B | 292 comments Just finished with

The Viscount Who Loved Me (Bridgertons, #2) by Julia Quinn and One Grave at a Time (Night Huntress, #6) by Jeaniene Frost

I really enjoyed both reads!

message 1519: by Carrie (Care) (new)

Carrie (Care) (care76) | 1746 comments So I just read If I Die (Soul Screamers, #5) by Rachel Vincent and it was frakkin amazing! I really loved the 4th book and I was surprised this one topped it. One of my friends told me to read it before I get spoiled and I would give the same advice. So much happens in this book and you really want to experience it yourself before hearing something from somebody's status update or unspoiler tagged review (that happened to me with Last Sacrifice a bit).

(view spoiler)

I loved this book, 5 stars. I am not really sure any future books could top it though. This one almost felt like a final book to me.

message 1520: by Darcy (new)

Darcy (sunnytat462) | 2770 comments That is good to know Carrie! I will just have to hope my library can get me a copy soon.

message 1521: by Whitney (new)

Whitney (whitneychakara) | 1272 comments I finished bad girls don't die and it was amazing I loved the characters ANC it's a ghost story so it started me off one the right track for October.

message 1522: by Carrie (Care) (new)

Carrie (Care) (care76) | 1746 comments I read Lola and the Boy Next Door by Stephanie Perkins and it was great. I also finished The Dragonbone Chair (Memory, Sorrow, and Thorn, #1) by Tad Williams which I read many years ago, and I still enjoyed it. It seemed to drag a bit for me though. I would probably give it 3 stars now.

message 1523: by Paula (new)

Paula (pauldajo) I'm half way through Clockwork Heart and I'm going to skim through the rest of the book to find out 'who done it'. I am then going to put it down. I don't like the universe at all. I have trouble breathing while reading the story (lots of smog). I can't get into the story, either. So I am going on to another book in my TBR pile. 'Clockwork Heart' will be going to Half Priced Books soon.

message 1524: by Tya (new)

Tya | 846 comments I just finished Texas Gothic by Rosemary Clement-Moore and it was so amazingly good. If there was a rating of more than 5 stars it certainly deserves it. Has anyone else read this? I so want there to be a sequel even though those don't seem to be Rosemary Clement-Moore's style. Ben was...honestly, he's my favorite YA boy since what-his-face from Anna and the French Kiss. He makes me all swoony

message 1525: by Whitney (new)

Whitney (whitneychakara) | 1272 comments I just finished Dark Magick (Sweep Series #4) by Cate Tiernan The Iron Queen (Iron Fey, #3) by Julie Kagawa Dark Magick is very very addicting. I just read The Iron Queen so I would know what happens in the Iron Knight finally we get out of Megans Head YAAAAY.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 827 comments Read Anna Dressed in Blood (Anna #1) by Kendare Blake and it was different, a little on the creepy/scary side with some gore thrown in. Not your typical pnr, and perfect for this time of year.

Yayyy have that coming to me from Amazon this week cant wait. :) I also want to read Dearly, Departed by Lia Habel so if anybody reads it please let me know if its as good as it sounds.

message 1528: by Carrie (Care) (last edited Oct 11, 2011 06:01AM) (new)

Carrie (Care) (care76) | 1746 comments I finished Silence (Hush, Hush, #3) by Becca Fitzpatrick and I really loved it. I would probably give it 4.5 stars. It took me a couple days just to read the first 30 pages or so though. I eventually had to wiki it so I could remember things from the first two books. And then once the book picked up it was so hard to put down. It was our Thanksgiving yesterday and we had family gatherings on Sunday and Monday. I tried to get some reading in but I had to wait until everybody left and that was after 9:30. At least I got to finish!

I also read Blood Bound (Unbound, #1) by Rachel Vincent and I liked it. I would give it 3 or maybe 3.5 stars. I thought the world was interesting, and I did like the plot, but I felt no chemistry between the "couple". I liked Liv, but I felt indifferent to Cam. Not sure why. Maybe because he made really stupid decisions and stupid people bug me, lol.

message 1529: by Darcy (new)

Darcy (sunnytat462) | 2770 comments Carrie, I hated Cam, he kept judging Liv for things when he was doing worse.

message 1530: by Paula (new)

Paula (pauldajo) I finished reading When Demons Walk. Twas a quick and enjoyable read.

message 1531: by Jessica B (new)

Jessica B | 292 comments I finished Lady Isabella's Scandalous Marriage (Highland Pleasures, #2) by Jennifer Ashley over the weekend and I really enjoyed it but I didn't love it as much as the first from the series. I also re-read Glass Houses (The Morganville Vampires, #1) by Rachel Caine in preparation for reading the rest of the series!

message 1532: by Tya (new)

Tya | 846 comments I just finished Born at Midnight by C.C. Hunter it was sooo awesome! I loved all of the characters. And, there's a triangle with every character being all likeable. Was this a group read at some point?

I liked that one too. The second one just came out this week.

tried to read it a few days ago bored the life out of me the writing style and main character were a lil bleeeh.

message 1535: by Carrie (Care) (new)

Carrie (Care) (care76) | 1746 comments I finished The Death Cure (Maze Runner, #3) by James Dashner a couple days ago. It was gripping, but I didn't love it as much as I did the first two. There was more talking and less action (still some good action, just not as much) in this one. I would have loved that if there were lots of questions answered, but lots was left unanswered. The ending was rushed too. There was a death that should have effected me, but it was almost like it was too fast or not enough closure, something was off. I did like how near the end the Gladers came full circle. I really loved that whole section of the book.

message 1536: by Tya (new)

Tya | 846 comments How far into Born at Midnight did you get, Chakara? I loved the main girl in that book. I loved that she seemed so normal, her relationships with everyone around her seemed so real. I thought that part, more than anything else was very well done. Needless to say the writing style and characterizations were exactly my cup o' tea.

message 1537: by Darcy (new)

Darcy (sunnytat462) | 2770 comments I loved the camp aspect where they could learn more about themselves and others.

message 1538: by Whitney (new)

Whitney (whitneychakara) | 1272 comments I got up to there arrival at the camp we already kno that the kids arnt normal and so does the main character though she tries to act like she doesn't know what's going on and play stupid. The reader is not stupid and I felt like the way it was written was insulting to the readers like it was meant to keep us guessing and wondering what was happening but there was nothing to guess and wonder about. I will give it another try though not right away.

message 1539: by Tya (last edited Oct 14, 2011 11:29AM) (new)

Tya | 846 comments Oh, we have two entirely different perspectives of the book. I thought that it was understandable that the girl fought against believing that she was something different even if she already knew. That part of it never annoyed me, what with (view spoiler) that it only made sense. Absolutely everything around her was changing, it made sense to me that she would try and hold on to one thing that wouldn't change. She accepted easily enough that everyone around her was supernatural, after she was given the initial proof, it was just the fact that she herself wasn't who she always thought heself to be that she railed against. But, again, I just really liked the relationships that she developed. The only one that I didn't really like was Main Girl (who's name is escaping me) and Holiday. Holiday was supposed to be the co-leader of the camp and she seemed way to...friendly? Like she was so concerned with being friends with everyone that she didn't really fill her role as a leader. She lacked a balance between friend you can talk about anything with and authority figure. But if I ignored that she was supposed to be in charge of the whole dang camp and instead focused on her as a pseudo-sister to any and everyone then I loved her again.

Tya | 846 comments I just read Turned at Dark (Shadow Falls, #0.5) by C.C. Hunter A short story about one of the characters introduced in Born at Midnight (Shadow Falls). I really liked it. I hope C.C Hunter writes others from the other main characters POV.

Tya | 846 comments I just finished Fateful by Claudia Gray ...that's not the cover on my library copy but whatev. I liked it well enough, seemed kind of like a supernatural riff on the Leo and Kate Titanic love affair but I liked the movie so no complaints.

I just tried to read that one over the weekend and couldn't make it through it. Glad to see you liked it.

message 1544: by Carrie (Care) (new)

Carrie (Care) (care76) | 1746 comments I read Flat-Out Love by Jessica Park and was pleasantly surprised by how much I liked it. I hadn't heard of it until Stacia read it. I'd say it is comparable to Jennifer Echols or Stephanie Perkins

message 1545: by Tya (new)

Tya | 846 comments I just finished Awake at Dawn I'm still enjoying this series but I'm torn. The issues that Kylie is dealing with in the first book she's still dealing with at the end of the second, including the triangle. On the one hand, I like it. The slow movement of the main plot-self discovery and strength, while still wrapping up smaller stories is great from a world building/character driven pov. There's such careful story telling going on, and I enjoy every moment of it, but at the same time book 2 is pretty much exactly where book 1 left off. Kylie still doesn't know who/what she is and she's still torn. From a storytelling pov, it makes sense. Books 1 and 2 take place over about one or two months, book 1 starts at the beginning of summer and when book 2 ends school is geared to start up again in a couple more weeks. The way C.C. Hunter is writing these books I wouldn't be surprised if by the end of book 3 the summer still hadn't ended. I like, especially with the triangle and Kylie finding out who/what she is, that there isn't any "BOOM" and then this happened, because thus sayeth the author nonsense that so many authors rely on, Hunter is taking the time to layer things, she's showing why Kylie would be so conflicted between her two love interests, she's taking the time to show why these two guys would be interested in her. She's building relationships and connections and its all really good and well written...but I still wish that more had happened.

Carrie (Care) (care76) | 1746 comments I read Spiders Revenge and it was great! I really love Gin and she seems more human in this one.

message 1547: by Whitney (new)

Whitney (whitneychakara) | 1272 comments Tya thanks for letting us know about awake at dawn I'm not young to be in a rush to read and buy it if the plots still basically in the same spot as it was in the first book seeing as how I can't finish the first one lol.

message 1548: by Tya (new)

Tya | 846 comments Yeah I can see why that would be an issue for you, HA. If you liked the first one then I don't see any reason why you wouldn't like the second one. But if you were a little iffy on the first one, don't bother. Maybe in five or six more books something would have actually happened.
