It Had to Be You (Chicago Stars, #1) by Susan Elizabeth Phillips

Not loving the cover, but I loved the book. I'm really interested in the rest of the series.

Darcy (sunnytat462) | 2770 comments Good to hear Heather. There are some really good ones in that series. The one with this main character's sister is one of my favorites.

Oh, that sounds good. I'm wondering who will be in the next book. I'm trying not to cheat and look, but I have a feeling it goes back to the players that were already discussed in this first book.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 827 comments Oh good! I had that one recently recommended to me by someone who knows my book tastes and I am excited to hopefully read it soon.

I'm not loving the cover either though. It looks like an erotica book (and I like reading erotica, but don't want my mainstream books to look like erotica either because it gets confusing).

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 827 comments I might shelve it as this cover instead :

It Had to Be You (Chicago Stars, #1) by Susan Elizabeth Phillips

It's not erotica. I wouldn't have liked it if it were. The girl just uses her assets to get some control over men. Hence, the assets...
My husband picked it up from the library for me. I asked if he was embarrassed about getting it, or if any of the ladies razed him, but apparently he didn't even notice the cleavage. Supposedly he just picks them up and doesn't look at the cover. His response was, "Bar-codes are on the back, why look at the cover?"

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 827 comments Oh I know it's not. I just think the cover looks too much like it, and that's why I don't like it much. If it's supposed to be erotica, fine, but if it's supposed to be a mainstream book it should look mainstream.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 827 comments Match Me If You Can (Chicago Stars, #6) by Susan Elizabeth Phillips This one is the most adorable cover in the series.

I like this cover, but for me it was one of the weaker ones in the series.

Paula (pauldajo) I finished reading Darke. Septimus Heap is a great children's series. The book looks like a tome, but the pages are shortened and the writing is doubled spaced. Darke was a good, fast read. The story flowed along, almost non-stop. Try as I might, I have only one minor complaint. Loved the pictures.

You know, sometimes I finish reading a book and I just want to pick up the phone and gossip with one of you about it and then realize that I've never actually met any of you. The internet leads to odd friendships. =)

Is it odd that I feel like I could tell a few of you more than I would tell others? I think it's because the odds of us running into each other are slim.

message 1465: by Darcy (new)

Darcy (sunnytat462) | 2770 comments I don't think that is odd Heather, that is how friendships work in real life.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 827 comments On the Jellicoe Road by Melina Marchetta It was one I had been putting off for a while because I already knew that the first 100 to 150 pages were going to be frustrating and confusing and everyone says so.

Everyone also seems to give this book 5 stars because it's very emotional and complex, and I also knew this, so I was glad when a buddy read forced me to read it.

Seriously, this is one incredible book and completely worth the confusing start. Push through and you will hit reading nirvana. Once the pieces start coming together and you begin to figure out what is going on, you are crying...then crying again. What a beautifully written book.

Run, don't walk to read this one.

Shera (Book Whispers) (sherabookwhispers) | 2445 comments Ooo, you really liked it!! I want to, but my TBR pile is out of control!

message 1468: by Paula (new)

Paula (pauldajo) I finished Rampant. I actually gave the book 4 stars.

message 1469: by Heather (new)

Heather T (horrorvacui000) | 5931 comments Mod
good to know. I've had it on the shelf for more than 2 years.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 827 comments Vixen (Flappers, #1) by Jillian Larkin was so much fun. I loved that it was chock full of scandal and intrigue.

Shera (Book Whispers) (sherabookwhispers) | 2445 comments Paula wrote: "I finished Rampant. I actually gave the book 4 stars."

Really need to read this one. I"ve been lusting over it on my shelves ever since I bought it.

message 1472: by Jessica B (new)

Jessica B | 292 comments I finished Breathless (The House of Rohan, #3) by Anne Stuart on the weekend and I absolutely loved it. Definitely my favourite of the series so far!

Shera (Book Whispers) (sherabookwhispers) | 2445 comments Oh, I"ve been wanting to read this series. (Another one I'm guilty of owning, but have yet to read it.)

message 1474: by Jessica B (new)

Jessica B | 292 comments I highly recommend it! Each book got better and better! If you are a fan of dark, dark heroes you will love these!

Shera (Book Whispers) (sherabookwhispers) | 2445 comments Ooo, yeah! Some one said the second book was like the "Love the way you lie" song. That's what drew me into the series.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 827 comments Maybe I'll get back to the series at some point then. I read the first one and it was just okay for me, but if it gets better...

I know this belongs in Say/Ask anything, but I'm being lazy and I'm in this thread and I refuse to move. =)

Has anyone read Madame Tussaud A Novel of the French Revolution by Michelle Moran ? I'm getting ready to start it and I was curious if anyone had thoughts on it, or if they wanted to do a buddy read. I like historical fiction, but I think I need motivation since I've been so distracted recently.

I haven't seen this series before, it looks good. I've added it to my tbr list. :-)

Shera (Book Whispers) (sherabookwhispers) | 2445 comments Maybe we can do a read along? ^_-

message 1480: by SamBFN (last edited Aug 16, 2011 09:05AM) (new)

SamBFN | 88 comments Sure, when would you like to do that? I'm reading Silent in the Sanctuary Silent in the Sanctuary (Lady Julia, #2) by Deanna Raybourn right now, but that should only take me a day or so and then I don't have anything on the go.

Shera (Book Whispers) (sherabookwhispers) | 2445 comments Tee-hee. Reading two books right now. How about next week on Monday. We can both start?

Shera, the Anne Stuart or the Moran?

I want to read the Stuart too, but I have to find it first.

You certainly have to have a certain kind of taste to enjoy these books. I love it when my heroes are particularly dark! if you are interested in her Rohan series you would probably like her Ice series as well. The first book is Black Ice (Ice, #1) by Anne Stuart I had a hard time finding the paperback version of this series but it is actually really cheap for the Kindle.

Shera (Book Whispers) (sherabookwhispers) | 2445 comments Anne Stuart. Did my mind jump the gun again??

Didn't know she had any other books!! If I like the Rohan books I'll try Black Ice out.

message 1485: by Heather (new)

Heather T (horrorvacui000) | 5931 comments Mod
I had asked if anyone wanted to buddy read a diff book right before that. I thought you meant the Stuart, but wanted to double check so I didn't ignore your comment if it wasn't.

Shera (Book Whispers) (sherabookwhispers) | 2445 comments Oh, woops I see now. That's one of those moments where the comment didn't load in time for me to see it.

Either way, I think I'll start Ruthless on Monday. It's about time.

message 1487: by SamBFN (new)

SamBFN | 88 comments Monday it is then!

I actually have the Black Ice (Ice, #1) by Anne Stuart series that I picked up at a used book store last year, but have never gotten around to reading them. I was able to pick up Ruthless (The House of Rohan, #1) by Anne Stuart on the Sony reader site for $5.49 which was cheaper than all the other e-book sites I stalk. I did see on the Amazon site that there was free Kindle prequel The Wicked House of Rohan (The House of Rohan, #0.5) by Anne Stuart but don't have a Kindle. I looked for it elsewhere but wasn't able to find it.

Shera (Book Whispers) (sherabookwhispers) | 2445 comments Hmmm. It might be worth downloading it and reading it on my netbook. Thanks for the heads up.

I wish they'd put the prequels in the front of the first books when they comeo out. *sigh*

message 1489: by Darcy (new)

Darcy (sunnytat462) | 2770 comments The Ice books are really good!

Shera (Book Whispers) (sherabookwhispers) | 2445 comments Oh!! Well now I'll have to get them. Hopefully I can find it in paperback . . .

I received this as a free Goodreads book a little while back and would be interested in a read along.

message 1492: by Jessica B (new)

Jessica B | 292 comments I just finished with The Leopard Prince (Princes Trilogy, #2) by Elizabeth Hoyt and I absolutely adored this book. I didn't think it would be able to live up to book one of the trilogy but it blew past it!

I also finished Devil's Desire by Laurie McBain which was a free read on my Kindle. I don't think I would have read it if it wasn't free. It wasn't awesome. But free is well.... free.

Shera (Book Whispers) (sherabookwhispers) | 2445 comments I"ve been really wanting to read the Princes trilogy series, glad to hear they just keep getting better and better.

Sure, we can get going on it. Let me know when you pick it up.

message 1498: by Vivian (new)

Vivian (_vivian) I just read Prey (Shifters, #4) by Rachel Vincent and I'm loving/hating this series. The Malone/political drama makes me want to throw the book, I've never wanted a villain to die a painful death so badly before! The series is good, super intense and sucks you in, but aggravating too, grrr.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 827 comments That book was so emotional. I teared up, even though I knew what was coming. Book 5 was probably my favorite.

message 1500: by Paula (new)

Paula (pauldajo) I finish reading Four and Twenty Blackbirds and Shadowland. Both books had elements that make me want to read the next book in the series.
