It was good. It just goes on with what's happening with her. There's a lot of stuff with Trent. I don't want to give away too much.

Lol! I know what you mean. I've spent more time on GR and amazon than I've spent actually reading today.

I've joined Megan in reading

I can't wait until you read Volume 2 and 3!!! They are even better than the first!! :o)

I'm still holding out hopes though! *Crosses fingers*

I'm sorry to hear that. I have heard one of my co-workers say that they didn't like Kiss of Midnight either. I guess I'll stay away from that series.

I read Kiss of Midnight not too long ago, and I wasn't too impressed. I have heard that the rest of the series gets better.

Wow, so...I'm definitely not the only one who's finding this book to be a bit of a drag?
What didn't you like about it? I'm debating whether to finish it, or toss it into my Tried-And-Failed shelf. My main problem is that I'm one hundred and something pages into it and am not feeling a believable plot, and the romantic spark seems to just be absent from the leads.

Hmm. Well, apparently I'm not the only one who isn't feeling this book. In general I'm not a fan of steering people away from books, since everyone has their own tastes (there's really only exception to this rule, and that's only because I HATE that series to the fullest extent possible- yet since this isn't the forum to do so, I'll keep that series title absent.)...
So, I won't necessarily say stay away from this book series, but there are definitely a few problems with it as far as I can tell. The plot is SO not clear, and that's a big pet peeve of mine. When I read a book, I want to see what the story is circling. So far, that's abundantly lacking.
Not to try to give away spoilers, but another big issue I'm having is that our leads have met for the second time, knowing each other a total of maybe thirty minutes so far, and their second meeting they have sex. I'm not a prude, and I have no problems with sex in a romance- it's one of its perks, of course! LOL.
BUT! I do have a problem when authors make their characters bang right off the bat! To me this is just irritating because it pulls out the mystery and sexual tension that is always interesting to see played into a storyline. I don't know, maybe that's just my view and opinion, but it's how I feel I suppose.

AH! I HATE when the Hero/Heroine know each other from before, especially if they are each other's ex-girlfriend/fiancee/or ex-spouce! AHHH!!

Now, the ONLY exception in my book is with the childhood friends theme- so long as they don't have a past physical relationship at any point. Again, I'm not a prude, and I love the impact and plot changes introducing the physical side of the relationship can bring about. But I think it demonstrates a turning point between characters- or at least it should. That turning point helps to advance the story and it irks me when that doesn't happen.

Like you, I just didn't think the plot or the romance was all that great. I didn't particularly care for the hero, the heroine, or the villain, lol! I kept reading to see which the direction the story was headed in. In the end, I thought it was an ok start to a new series. I've heard the series gets better with each book. I'll probably read book 2 at some point.

I'm with you- childhood friends theme is okay- as long as they never had a physical relationship before they "grew-up" and fell in love. Other than that- no "pasts" for the lead characters please! ;o)

Sadly enough, though, I've yet to find that many (especially recently) childhood friend themed romances :(.

I'm VERY glad to know, based on your comments, that I haven't made a bad decision to ditch the reading of this book. I stopped at page 131 and tossed it into my Tried and Fail shelf.
Wow! *Laughs* Even the villain gets bad marks?! That's pretty depressing! But I don't doubt it. I think there were a lot of issues with this book, but the one that sticks out in my mind the most is the fact that it's a romance, and yet a good deal into the book there's some sex, yet no emotional connection or romantic sentiment. *Shakes head*
It definitly was the nail in the coffin with this book. I used to be of the mindset I HAD to finish a book I was reading, and that if a book series MIGHT get better, I'd give it a shot. But honestly, any more I've changed. There are far too many other books out there that I'm interested in starting to waste time with a book series that disappointed me from book one.
So, good or bad, Lara Adrian won't be an author I'm very likely to read again. Sad, but with the amount of good ones we have out there, there are just as many bad ones I suppose :(.

Good point! I often feel obligated to finish a book once I've started not matter how long it takes. You are so right, there are just too many other books to read without forcing yourself to stick with that you're not enjoying. I think I'll start a "tried and failed" pile to!

As I've said, there are just TOO many TBR books in my shelf to worry about wasting time, which is precious in this short life, over one that's either pathetically bad, or even mediocre. But, you don't want the time you've invested into an attempted book to be wasted, so I still review my Tried and Failed books, noting what I liked/didn't like and why. The weird thing is that, doing that, you get better at spotting whether or not a book might make a 360 degree turn in the story, and to make the decision if that book is worth your time or not in the end!

You are so right! As I look at my physical tbr "piles" topple over, why do I even force myself to finish a 400+ page book, when around pg 100 or so, I"m not enjoying the book? No more!!!! From here on out, if I don't like a book after 1/4 - 1/3 of it, I'm putting on hold.

LOL
But seriously, that is awesome that you're changing your book reading mindset! And it really is true- there will always be more books out there and you're not honor bound to finish the bad or boring ones :). Actually, what I've been noticing is that I can generally tell whether or not a book's gonna crash or fly by page 60. That's not always the case, though, since I gave Kiss of Midnight 131 pages- but I should've gone with my gut because by page sixty, the book was an obvious joke!
But whether you go by the 60 bench mark or not, you can absolutely tell by page 100. If a book is still dead in the water here, you know it's not going to get any better :).

I'm finishing The Forever Kiss. I like this author but the cover was awful so I kept putting it aside. I had it listed for a February challenge and ended up liking the book a lot. Great book.

Thanks! I've heard GREAT things about it! I'm very excited!! It'll be hard to wait 'til tomorrow! LOL
