I'm currently in northern California (San Francisco) and traveling North. I looked at the map and I can go to: Oregon, Washington state, and Vancouver. Do any of you have suggestions for books in these places that I might like?

A couple of lighter weight stories set around Seattle are Where'd You Go, Bernadette and Remarkably Bright Creatures
Holly, I think you might like Remarkably Bright Creatures. It is not something I would normally pick up, but my husband bought it for me for my birthday. Surprisingly I really enjoyed it

You might like The Forest Lover.

I also really liked the novel Greenwood, set in a British Columbia Forest, and A Tale for the Time Being set partly on a BC island, as well as Japan.
For nonfiction, Finding the Mother Tree: Discovering the Wisdom of the Forest is quite good if you like nature writing. Her findings have been reported in other books I read earlier, but I still found it interesting. It’s also about the forests in BC.

Thanks for all of these book suggestions. I'll look into them. If any of you come up with more ideas, please post them on The Compass discussion thread. It's ironic of course, that recently I read a book which was set in Seattle. It would have worked perfectly.

Nothing to the North this week
Lots of us headed East this time! This direction lets me knock off a Play Harder prompt at the same time!
Oh yay, West was one of the few directions for which I already had a book in mind for it, and it's also my March Trim book. I love when challenges line up.
Quick note - two searches I used thought New Mexico was in Maryland. I got the right results when I used the city name. Joanne has a similar glitch with New Jersey. Pls double check maps when you enter New Jersey or New Mexico online. Using cities or state abbreviations may help.
Sure was hoping for anything that did not include the word West but such is life on the Compass. Hawaii it is!!
Ellen wrote: "Sure was hoping for anything that did not include the word West but such is life on the Compass. Hawaii it is!!"Hawaii, of course! I was wondering, what you were going to do.
I even looked up books on the Oregon coast and found this one Murder at Yaquina Head
Staying in the US has been a challenge but a lot of fun. I would think unless I get Northeast next week I will be using a free ticket. Destinations are rather limited from Hawaii.

There are all the US territories including:
American Samoa
Northern Mariana Islands
Guam
US Virgin Islands
Puerto Rico
Baker Island
Howland Island
Palmyra Atoll
Jarvis Island
Johnston Atoll
Kingman Reef
Midway Atoll
Navassa Island
Wake Island.
Maybe a couple more. Some are uninhabited but not all.
A friend is doing an every country challenge - personal one - and just read My Cousin Is a Chief in Samoa: The unlikely adventures of a Dane in Polynesia which visits both Samoa and American Samoa. She recommends it - says it's a family history and fits truth is stranger than fiction.
Wow, that's a lot of options, Fran! You are our Geography guru. Thanks very much. What a great challenge your friend is doing; so ambitious.
I have completed my book and am ready for another spin next week.My review: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...
