book:A Name of Her Own

date read: 4/2/15
review:
this book was a very enjoyable read. i have read almost all of Jane Kirkpatrick's books now and this is one of my favorites.I loved the main character's progression through the book.i especially liked seeing her meet well known historical people who were involved in the fur trapping trade in the 1800's plus the individuals on the Lewis and Clark expedition.

Review: This is the second book I've read by Tyler and I'm not in love with her writing style. It has a rawness to it that isn't appealing to me. There is a lot of focus on the sexual aspect of the book but not nearly enough on the romance part. The lust factor overshadows most of the book, I think. With this particular book I found that I hated the heroine so much. She turned TSTL (too stupid to live) right out of the gate and despite her being a professional investigative journalist her constant lusting over the man she was investigating compromised her integrity in my eyes. I didn't hate the book though. I find Tyler has really good ideas and her writing style isn't horrible. With more books under her belt it might get a nice polished feel to it and maybe she will be able to balance the romance/suspense/lust in a more believable way. One can hope.

I grabbed this kindle book a year ago. It's a detective story, Reed's first case, set in present day but has a Noir feel to it. Reed is a huge fan to the Hollywood Noir genre and has all kinds of posters in his office. Thee is a lot of name dropping of the actors, actresses, movies, and even popular movies in the 80s.
It a quick and light read and goes very quickly and predictable. This isn't bad thing just knowing it will know what kind of mood to be in when reading it.
Pawlish is a fan of Hardy Boys and this is very evident with this detective story that stars Reed. I felt that it was along that style of a story.
This book is for those that like cozy noir style detective stories.

I cannot express to you how much I love Veronica Mars. If you haven't ever seen the TV series, do yourself a favor and watch all 3 seasons. And then watch the fan-funded movie. AND THEN read the follow-up book series (including this fabulous mystery)!
I actually enjoyed this book more than the first installment in the V. Mars book series. Mystery was more engaging, favorite characters made appearances, and the dialogue was wonderfully witty. This was a rental from the library but can't wait to add it to my personal library!
I will warn you - you likely will not get the same level of enjoyment out of this book if you aren't familiar with the TV show and how the characters act/interact (all the more reason to watch the show!).

Wow! This books was way packed full of drama and exciting scenes. Though it was a very good book and I would recommend it to anyone. I did get a little annoyed with the main character, Claire. Due to situations in her past she becomes this uptight and dramatic woman who can't trust anyone even Jamie who she has know since her childhood. Jamie is a very patient man and willing to wait to win his bride. I read the first book in the series and they are both free books on Kindle.
Summary from Goodreads
All Jamie Lassiter wants is to marry his best friend’s sister and settle down for the rest of his life in Chance Creek. He’s saved his money, bought into the Cruz Guest Ranch and he’s ready for that wedding, but Claire Cruz is nowhere to be found.
Claire’s too busy leaving Montana behind to care about cowboys or their wedding plans. She’s got plans of her own – a trip around the world. She’ll go as soon as she buys her tickets and she doesn’t care if she ever sees Chance Creek again.
Desperate to change Claire’s mind, Jamie proposes a bet: give him six weeks to convince her to marry him. If he can’t, he’ll pay for her round-the-world tickets himself.
Claire can wait six weeks if it means free tickets and a chance to get a little revenge on a man who once broke her heart. She’s got only one stipulation: Jamie can’t touch or flirt with her – or any other woman – while the bet is on.
Now Jamie’s on the run from a bevy of cowboy-groupie ranch guests, and Claire’s learning she cares about the ranch – and Jamie – more than she dreamed possible.
Maybe it’s time to lose that bet.
As long as Jamie loses it first

I am in love with this series. I had loved the first book and I am in love with this one as well. Tyler was not so loveable in the last book, so I was wondering how this was going to turn out but I loved Memphis and Tyler. A few things I was not a fan of, but overall good book.

i really liked this one. i love books set in the past especially in the pacific northwest. as a person raised in this part of the country it is cool to read about the things hear in school about the state history. i don"t find many things covering it so it is very cool. i liked the variety of characters both completely fictional and those based off of a real person. i love this author i will keep reading her books

I loved this book! Just got the 3rd and excited to read it :)

Me too!!! I'm waiting to start my next book until we figure out what's next. Got a whole stack from the library to choose from :)

Review: I came away from reading Written in Red in awe of it's world building and I really wasn't sure Bishop could do as well the second time around but she did. Once again I was so involved in the Other's world and the characters surrounding Lakeside I never wanted the book to end. I found that I had to push myself to keep reading. This is completely opposite of most other books. When I find a book I love I gobble it down as quickly as possible. With this book (and the first one) I found I wanted to slow down, absorb it's awesomeness, and savor it. Too bad I was on a deadline. I kind of feel I might have missed some great things by reading it too fast.
I really enjoyed the way Simon and Meg's relationship is progressing. I love how she confuses him so much and how he is completely perplexed by her negative reaction to things that he thought he was being most considerate about. His reactions made me chuckle a lot.
I'm going to gush one more time about the world building. Ann Bishop is amazeballs at it. With sooooo many UF series with shifters, werewolves, elementals, psychics, vampires etc, somehow she found a fresh approach. I gots me a little bit of a girl crush on her! When I get around to reading book 3 (I'm actually considering paying FULL PRICE for it!) I may move on to her The Black Jewels series which I've heard is pretty amazing too.

Another wonderfully funny book in this series. The main character Charley is SO bold and SO funny. Series kind of reminds me of Janet Evanovich's Stephanie Plum series but with a supernatural twist. Charley is THE grim reaper, but not the scary mean kind you think of. She has the ability to talk with and interact with the departed, who can use her as a portal to heavan if they choose. She uses this ability to help solve crime! Series has a very steamy romance (Reyes) if you are into that stuff!

That will teach me not to just copy and paste ;)

I loved this book. I loved the relationship that grows between all the characters and really love how the main character, Joslyn, grows in to her role throughout the book. I don't know about most women but I know I have a thing for cowboys and Linda Lael Miller paints a very pretty picture. I also love her books because there just a little bit of R rated material and the rest is just a wonderfully written romance. Definitely can't wait to read the next book in the series.
Summary from Goodreads
The illegitimate son of a wealthy rancher, Sheriff Slade Barlow grew up in a trailer hitched to the Curly-Burly hair salon his mother runs. He was never acknowledged by his father-until now. Suddenly, Slade has inherited half of Whisper Creek Ranch, one of the most prosperous in Parable, Montana. That doesn't sit well with his half brother, Hutch, who grew up with all the rights of a Carmody. Including the affections of Joslyn Kirk, homecoming queen, rodeo queen, beauty queen-whom Slade has never forgotten but Joslyn is barely holding her head up these days as she works to pay back everyone her crooked stepfather cheated. With a town to protect-plus a rebellious teenage stepdaughter-Slade has his hands full. But someone has to convince Joslyn that she's responsible only for her own actions.
Such as her effect on this lawman's guarded heart

Review:
I was very disappointed with this book, but unlike the last book this time around I was disappointed right from the start. I really didn't like the hero or the heroine. Jeremy and Jillian are suppose to be fated together, but instead we have a hero who is a player and just wants to sleep with Jillian after being away from her for 10 years because he just wants to work her out of her system. Jillian is no better, she is so scared of the relationship that she doesn't even give it a chance at all so I couldn't really blame Jeremy for everything. They rehash the same thing, and one honest conversation would have fixed everything, I was just annoyed. This book didn't have much of romance and it doesn't have much action like the last book did. Overall, disappointing read.

I've always wanted to read this series. It wasn't until March that I crack into the the first book, which was brilliant. I loved it and the whole style. The second book was great too. I feel that first book was still stronger than the second book.
Now in this installment of the Hannibal Lecter series it doesn't fail to entertain. Yes, some of the terms, and slang (especially for drugs) are dated. It's not a great as the first book but it still packs a punch.
If you have watched the Hannibal TV show, which I have, you will find similar ideas that they took from the book but they twisted it and applied different characters so it was almost like reading a different take on the situation. This isn't as bad like the Sookie Stackhouse/True Blue series. In a way it reminds me of the take in accuracy from book to TV as something in-between Sookie Stackhouse/True Blood and Song of Fire and Ice/Game of Thrones.
Some of the descriptions in the book are creepy. I really enjoyed this book. I didn't feel let down. I can't wait to start the fourth installment of the series.
