Kayla (kaylaschwae) | 491 comments Hey everyone!!!! I just realized this was up:) im so so excited!!!

I'm Kayla and I live in iowa:). I Am a stay at home mom to a almost 4 yr old and 1 yr old!
I have only played once and I was captain and loved it!

What is everyone thinking for names????
The one and only
The first edition
The lucky ones
Onederful readers
Once upon a time...

JackAttack | 157 comments Hey all!

I'm Jacki from Minnesota! Excited to do this - I've never done this challenge before so I was hoping someone else would take the helm.

I just woke up from a nap (and now its bed-time! awesome!) and am not feeling too creative. Will brainstorm on the team names but I like "The Lucky Ones".

message 7: by Kayla (new)

Kayla (kaylaschwae) | 491 comments Welcome jacki!!! If you have any questions please let us know! It is so fun and very addicting:)

message 8: by Jenne (new)

Jenne (jennetheinstigator) | 7439 comments Rachel will be joining y'alls team too :)

message 9: by RachelvlehcaR (new)

RachelvlehcaR (charminggirl) Hi everyone. I am Rachel from Washington State and I am new to the group and game. New as in just joined! This challenge looks familiar but with a twist.

I have a question. It say one book a week. May we do more? I read through the rules, I should read through them again.

Names, hmm...
I am good with any of those.

message 10: by Kayla (last edited Mar 17, 2015 12:26AM) (new)

Kayla (kaylaschwae) | 491 comments Welcome Rachel! For this game you are required to read one book a week and report a quick review by every Thursday. It is so much fun!!! If you read more than one then that is fantastic but you don't have to report those. You just have to report the one that fits the criteria for the week. It's much easier to play than to explain. Lol

message 11: by Hina (new)

Hina (hinaj) | 514 comments Hi all,

I am Hina from Chicago, IL. I work full time and go to school full time as well. I have now played this plenty of time, absolutely love it even though I should be studying rather than playing. I do at least the once a week play. I have captained before but I rather not this time around way too much stuff going on, so Kayla if you won't mind being captain.

For names I really like The one and only, Onederful readers and The lucky ones.

message 12: by Kayla (new)

Kayla (kaylaschwae) | 491 comments I would love to be captain!!! Organizing is my thing :)

I think we should wait to hear from the two other team memebers to make a final decision on the name but as of right now it looks like most of us like The Lucky Ones.

Kayla (kaylaschwae) | 491 comments Does anyone stay up til midnight CT? I won't be able to roll until 7 ish maybe before if my daughter wakes up but if anyone is up at midnight they can go ahead and roll.

I am like you Kayla, I sleep early since I wake up about 5, so I am rarely up that late unless my nephew is visiting, then he is too excited to sleep and wants to play.

message 15: by RachelvlehcaR (last edited Mar 17, 2015 10:59AM) (new)

RachelvlehcaR (charminggirl) Thank you Kayla. Good to know.

I will be awake during that time. I can roll if needed. I assume a pic needs to be taken with the timestamp? Where do we post the roll and pic?

No need for a pic...just post it here what you got on the 2 dice. That's it. Kayla will post it to the right thread for the mod. The timestamp as long as you post it on the thread after midnight you are good, but it hasn't been an issue that I recall.

message 17: by RachelvlehcaR (new)

RachelvlehcaR (charminggirl) I have another question. What is the difference between R5 and R6?

message 18: by Kayla (new)

Kayla (kaylaschwae) | 491 comments R5 is round 5 r6 is round 6 it's just the round that the current game is on!

message 19: by Kayla (new)

Kayla (kaylaschwae) | 491 comments R6:sss is a more intense game where you read 2 books a week!

Thank you. That was helpful. I can do that if needed. Unless someone else wants to roll the dice.

message 21: by Kayla (new)

Kayla (kaylaschwae) | 491 comments No go right ahead that would help out a lot!!!

The dice roller is all in one of the top links and you just roll and let us know what you rolled and what spot we are on and i can do the rest :)

message 22: by RachelvlehcaR (new)

RachelvlehcaR (charminggirl) Kayla wrote: "R6:sss is a more intense game where you read 2 books a week!"

Ahh, that makes sense. I read a lot of books. I tend to read about 25 to 40 books a month, depending on what is going on in the month.

I have another question. Sorry. I know...

When the dice is rolled and for that spot we land on, for the task, if we are already reading a book that fits well for it, are we able to use that book for it or do we have to start a new book to fit the task?

message 23: by Kayla (new)

Kayla (kaylaschwae) | 491 comments You have to start a new book! You aren't allowed to start the new book until everyone has their review in and the dice has been rolled at midnight on Friday morning.

It seems I've found my roll role for the group. ;) Bad joke.

It's kind of fun, like in the series Discworld by Terry Pratchett. Their lives are fated to the roll of the dice. Such a funny concept.

Kayla (kaylaschwae) | 491 comments Haha I think that was a great joke;) lol

My husband love Terry's books. Granted he has only read three books in the 9 years we have been together. Lol but 2/3 have been Terry's books. Lol

I read Good Omens: The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter, Witch by Terry Pratchet and Neil Gilman. My first book with both authors and it was hilarious.

I'm lucky that right now I'm able to read at work. Not all my work days but my long work days, three of them. It helps a lot. Also, a lot of those books were 125+ page books. I normally read 300-600 page books. At the moment I'm reading a 1000 pager. I'm half way through it.

message 33: by Kayla (new)

Kayla (kaylaschwae) | 491 comments That is fantastic Rachel!!!! I read gone with the wind last summer and it's the longest by far I've ever read!

message 43: by Christina T (new)

Christina T (crysteena73) | 1040 comments Hi all sorry I haven't been online for a few days. I tried accessing from my phone but had trouble posting so I just waited until I got to my laptop. My name is Christina T and I'm from Iowa. I love this challenge and do manage to get some of my long standing series books checked off although half the time I end up going with the alternate choice.

Thanks Kayla for volunteering for the roll of captain. My work schedule makes it really difficult to do that. I am normally online from midnight to 4 CST so if there is a time Rachel can't roll I could be the back up. I try to have my book done by Wednesday (which is my day off) but sometimes I read the last of it right before I fall asleep on Wed which puts my review a bit behind and then I'll post it Thursday into Friday right around midnight. My reading is a bit sporadic where I'll read 3 books one week and then struggle, taking a week to read only one. This is why I'll never sign up for the SSS group challenge LOL. But rolling ASAP helps me because I only get to read before bed and that gives me another day to finish a book that might be stubborn. Last round I played, I volunteered to roll at midnight but the capt. preferred to roll which was anytime after 8am on Friday(which was the capt's prerogative but it made it a bit harder for me.)

Anyway, I see a name has been chosen. I'm super laid back so anything would have been fine with me but I do like this one. Looking forward to starting this game!

message 44: by Kayla (new)

Kayla (kaylaschwae) | 491 comments Yay we have heard from everyone!!! Welcome Christina!!! Im from iowa too and actually lived in council bluffs for nearly 4 years;) maybe we crossed paths and didnt even know it. Lol

Either you or Rachel can roll I'd say who ever gets there first :)

We are all set for our first roll at midnight tonight. If everyone could have their reviews in by Thursday evening that would be great so we can roll at midnight that would be fantastic.

message 45: by RachelvlehcaR (new)

RachelvlehcaR (charminggirl) Nice to meet you Christina. :). I don't mind you want to be the one who roles. I am a night owl too.

It will be nice to see what we read. I am in Washington state so the time zone difference is in my favor to get those books read.

Looking forward to the official start.

message 46: by Kayla (new)

Kayla (kaylaschwae) | 491 comments T minus 5 hours:) yay!!!

Who ever decides to roll maybe announce it before you roll so the other person doesn't roll too. Lol. I'll get everything posted an organized in a post tomorrow morning:) I

I'm so so so excited!!!

message 47: by RachelvlehcaR (new)

RachelvlehcaR (charminggirl) Okay I rolled, a 5 & 6

5 + 6 = 11

message 48: by RachelvlehcaR (last edited Mar 19, 2015 10:21PM) (new)

RachelvlehcaR (charminggirl) Looks like the task for 11 is:

- Read a stand alone book or
- a book 1 in a series or
- the alternative option, read a book from 2001.
(lots of options)

11. 2001

message 49: by Christina T (new)

Christina T (crysteena73) | 1040 comments Woohooo! I worked a bit late tonight and opted to catch up on The Voice so I'm just now checking in. Super excited that book 1 came up because I have one that I was eyeballing that will work for 2 other groups I'm in. I'm going to read Hungry Like the Wolf (SWAT, #1) by Paige Tyler but I'm also starting How to Flirt with a Naked Werewolf (Naked Werewolf, #1) by Molly Harper so which ever one I get done first I'll post the review LOL.

message 50: by RachelvlehcaR (last edited Mar 20, 2015 12:14AM) (new)

RachelvlehcaR (charminggirl) For me I will start and finish one of these and post a review.

Stand Alone: All the Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr
#1 in a Series: Mistborn The Final Empire (Mistborn, #1) by Brandon Sanderson
Book published in 2001 (also #1 in a Series): The Bone Doll's Twin (The Tamír Triad, #1) by Lynn Flewelling
