May Subdue the Shelf Roll Requests

Thanks Sue! I liked the first book in the series and..."
That series was very good on audio, unfortunately there are only 3 on audio, but now I see there are more in print, which I'll have to look for.

Sue and Theresa-sounds like a buddy read to me!"
I am up for it! Mid-June? I will be reading Nona the Ninth for Feminerdy the first week or so. I too read in ebook.

Perfect, thank you for clarifying! I've just posted my review for the book for my latest roll, so I'm going to use that special advantage now. I'll make a note on my Station Master board next to the book I choose to use once I've chosen it.

I'm on 99, but several laps behind you.

Nancy, Robin, Anita - that is what I assumed, but thank you for the confirmation!

Hope you are enjoying the extra service and fine dining being lavished on you in Royal Coach. Wardrobe attendant is busy getting your wardrobes freshened for your departure.

FYI Anita and Joanne - I have updated my Station Master Board to show that I used my special advantage here.

Sue 2

I have an out of town guest so I'm posting the requested rolls now, but will try to address any additional folks later.

The roll I received in post #520 has rolled me off my Station Master Board. I have set up my Conductor Board, and it is ready to be saved.
Thank you!

Shade has been cast on the rest of us, for sure.
CGI Tom will be contacting you for a list of your favorite British snacks. Seems he has a US distributor source.

Two things not to miss
Pierogies (Tom will be wearing babushka and frying like a mad grandmother)

Michigan Cherry Salad

Happy Birthday, Joanne! Thanks for the treats. That reminds me it is my niece's birthday as well.

Miss Lola has arranged a surprise delivery for you. We will all help blow out those candles!

Happy Birthday Joanne!! I hope you're having a great day.

Have to order book from the library, before I leave for New Hampshire overnight. Can’t wait to see what it is!

I hope it is a good one Amy. My first Porter book is a sappy, slog-advertised heavily as HF, but looking more as romance to me, which IS NOT my thing. I am only 1/3 of the way through and trying to get through it fast so I can move on to my special roll from Joy, which looks more like what I love.

Wow, that's impressive, Amy!
Since I reread the Porter rules last night to figure out when extra dice rolls and other advantages are awarded, I was reminded of this:
) If you land on a book that has the same tag as the monthly tag, you will get an extra move to use when you wish:
5-25 taggers - move forward 1 space
25-50 taggers - move forward 2 spaces
50-100 taggers move forward 5 spaces
More than 100 taggers - roll two dice
This award must be noted on your tracking thread at the time you land on the book that earns it. The book does not need to be completed/reviewed in the month with the tag . . .this bonus is triggered when you land on the book.
I was looking at the page number awards rules .... alas, I don't think any book on my Porter board is over 500 pages. Which was deliberate as I have several busty reads ongoing or needing to be read for book club and I want to keep moving on this board. But now that I'm on my Porter Board, I am second guessing myself.🤣
At least I'm carving my own Path of Regrets, not mirroring JoAnne who has already admitted that though carefully curated, a book or two have already caused problems on her board - either should be a DNF or somehow she managed to read already between posting the board and rolling her first die.

Wow, that's impressive, Amy! ..."
I never realized until this game how many books I have that are between 480 and 499 pages! Seriously, it makes me suspect that publishers must go through extra formatting/editing steps to ensure they stay under 500 pages when they're close (to avoid scaring us off maybe).* I just created a new board and I wanted to include some (but not too many) 500++ page books. Many times I thought I had one, but it turned out to have 494, 496 or 499 pages on Amazon.
*I guess it's like charging 19.99 for a product instead of $20.00.

Wow, that's impressive, Amy! ..."
Just onto the board Theresa, do not want to use one of my options to read a different book-I will finish it, sappy as it is

Wow, that's i..."
It used to be that the oublished standard genre length book I read (crime fiction, romance) was around 200 to 300 pages --- I could literally read in a day even if working 12 hour days - I'm a reasonably fast reader and being light fiction ... easy. I've been re-reading Agatha Christie lately and those generally hover around 200 pages though some are closer to 300. Those are totally satisfying, well developed reads. Yet, most now are at least 300 pages and in fantasy, much longer, and of course now all have to be series it seems, not standalones. That's creeping more and more into crime fiction too.
But I do think there is a 500 page limit either officially or unofficially imposed -- many readers are intimidated by the 500 page book. Me - you have to get over 800 pages to make me hesitate at all and I really drag if it is over 1000. It's kind of ridiculous, really, because that last time I re-read A Song of Ice and Fire in anticipation of GRRM publishing A Dance with Dragons, I re-read the entire 4 volumes in 3 weeks - around 4000+ pages.
It's a mental game. I have reading friends that consider 400 pages too long.
I believe it is Ben Franklin who said something like 'I am sorry I did not have time to write you a shorter letter'. It take much longer to write and re-write something short and tight and concise. (that's a favorite quote of litigators).
