I just started Immortal in Death (I blame all of you for my current addiction, by the way!!!)

The opening scene between Eve & Roarke has me grinning like an idiot (I am so mushy! *Sigh*).

But Mavis? Really, Eve!?! I don't blame Roarke! LOL
I'm sure things will go much better than expected.

It wasn't quite my cup of tea, either. I gave it a 2.5, rounded to 3 because I had to finish it. Sadly, it didn't pay off.

Yea... that was the thing... it ended with the bad guy just locked back up, working on wearing down the next protector... very little sign that anything had been fixed, long-term...

Pandora's scene at Leonardo's was pretty funny:))) This is a great introduction to him and Mavis' relationship:))) All up to the murder was quite hilarious:)))

I am beginning to notice the characters coming into themselves and I am loving it! 35% in and Summerset's story is heartbreaking! I understand Rourke's sense of guilt, despite it not really being his fault...

This is definitely the best plotted book of the first 3... having a connection to the suspects adds alot more stakes...

Book #3... Iain, I had totally forgotten about Dickhead too, and he is hilarious! So slimy in a way, but still somehow likable.

Your early theory is exactly my early theory... he is just too... much of everything. And the way he treats Peabody gives me the creeps! I don't care how good looking he is!

Yea... I binged it this morning, from like 4-7am... did some laundry and recharged my phone, and moved on to Catalogue of Catastrophe...

I've been reading as much as possible on my days off, recently, to make up for any shortcomings on my work days :D

It's gonna fall apart, soon, when I have to buckle down and update some spreadsheets and do all my ratings/reviews, before the end of the year...

I loved this one, just didn't want to spoil the ending... showcases the team, Roarke/Eve working together better, found family, etc...

Book #3 ... Ch. 12-13 were rough to read, all emotional and stuff... I had no idea she came to remember so early in the series... Mira was the MVP of the moment! I love that woman! But Summerset did good as well, despite her not feeling safe enough with him in order to relax...

We also got to meet Trina!!! How could we have forgotten about her! Those moments of Eve's encounters with the beauty team are always hilarious! Eve would rather deal with a gang of crazed armed junkies in a dark alley empty handed, then let herself be pampered!:))) Trina is her own personal demon:)

Still book #3... I forgot to say, the illegals cop is really upsetting me, because I think he is using Peabody and I think he is going to hurt her feelings, and I already feel very protective of her!

So, I finished #3 and I enjoyed it. However, that ending...(view spoiler)[ If Rourke didn't stir things up off planet with that second florist, the creep wouldn't have gone after Dallas and the murder most probably wouldn't have gotten solved. So really, Rourke is the one responsible for it being solved. I just wasn't a fan of the murder going and confessing everything to her under the guise of "showing her how smart he is"... It doesn't add anything to her as an investigator. And I think JDR knew that when she was writing it, because she kept insisting through the different characters, that Eve has been off beat because of all the distractions - Mavis, the wedding, her remembering her past trauma and so on... As I said, she didn't solve the case. Rourke stirred things up enough for the murderer to show his cards and basically turn himself in...

The rest of the book was fun to read though and I am glad we are doing this:))) (hide spoiler)]

Nyssa, so glad you haven't abandoned us:))) Yeah, he is slime and Peabody is very naive in her way... I don't really want her to change. Eve is jaded and hurt, the sunshine that is Peabody balances her out perfectly! And Feeny is in the center of that balance beam.

Nyssa, it does seem weird that he can be so nice to Mavis and her folks, but is so hard on Eve. I wonder if it is jealousy. He is seeing that Rourke is truly in love this time and is afraid that she is not good enough for him, or that she could hurt him, maybe? Mavis did say he treats Rourke as a son, not as an employer, and that makes sense after you get to the backstory of how they met...

I'm getting really annoyed at how disrespectful Eve is being to Mavis & Leonardo at the show. I get that Eve has a job to do, but Mavis is practically begging her not to disrupt Leonardo's big night, and Eve isn't paying her any mind.
I'm sure things will be fine when all is said and done, but as I'm reading it, I'm so pissed at Eve's blindness to her friend's anxiety. Like take a breath, Lutenient, look your best friend in the eye, and reassure her for a minute!!

Yeah, this is the way Eve deals with her own pain. She has created this COP personality for herself in order not to be afraid, vulnerable, or fall apart. She feels if she stops and is a human for even a little bit, she will go insane and will not be able to cope. I think the people who start surrounding her little by little, ground her and she gets better...

This series is in the 'it's okay but not great' bracket for me. I'm enjoying the reads well enough but it's not a 'stay up to 3 am reading' series. I'll probably drop up when I've finished the first 7 books I have - I don't really have the money (or shelf space!) to justify buying books I'm not absolutely loving.

Fair... this is/was a popcorn read, for me, as Soo likes to call them... I got them in bulk in 2014... now, I can't see myself quitting the series, even as I haven't loved the new ones as much, in awhile... the series is so long, I feel like it has it's own plot tropes...

Popcorn read is a great description. I also find that sometimes that's exactly what hits the spot.

I've been borrowing the books from the library via Libby. There is no way I'd be able to afford to buy all of them.

Peabody makes the series, for me... Dallas trains Peabody to be a detective... Peabody trains Dallas to be a healthy adult / friend / wife... sands down her rough edges with her Free-ager family background...

13 chapters in and you know what? I'm really enjoying this one! :D

Is this one of those series that takes the first three or four books to hit their stride? Because if I like the next three as much as this one, I think I'll have to reverse that decision to drop out.

I think so... the first 2 are definitely rough... relationship not sorted, characters not all introduced... 3rd book was the first book with most of the important characters (and there are still plenty of smaller characters waiting to be introduced and become recurring/important characters)...
