I was looking at the Magic Bites series as well.
I also just found an interesting book the other day that is future set.
It's an MC series, an RH, and in KU

Maggie Robinson (librariansdaughter77) | 1485 comments Looking at the details for the task - we may need to ask MKat if the Magic Bites series by Ilona Andrewswould meet the requirements.

The task details state If looking for specific years, it would need to be 25 years to the future or the past. Remember to use the first edition Kindle page count

The first book in the Magic Bites series notes in the meta details that is it set in Atlanta, Georgia 2040 which doesn't meet the 25 year mark.

On the other side of the 25 year coin - Kat DID say she would accept a book that is MPG Contemporary with an original Publication date of 25 years ago or later.
25 years back from today would be book with an original publication year of 1997.

Umm, I'm not really sure. Does a tag of Futuristic work or does it need to be more than that? I saved a few books to my TART shelf with that tag in hopes it would work.

Maggie Robinson (librariansdaughter77) | 1485 comments Just posted in the Q&A asking after the Futuristic tag and the Magic Bites series.

Sorry this is taking so long all. 🤣🤣

I was even looking thorough my regular fiction reads and they are all WWII and IRA/English struggle based right now.

I’m zero help in the future. The tea leaves, my shapeshifting Reverse Harem, and my acceptance letter into all of the PNR academies I love to read have foretold of this 😉😏

I’m good with going off of that and using “futuristic” as our qualifier.
Jane is an RRRC mod.
It’s part of this current challenge and MKat accepted the tag.
That’s solid enough for me to say we can use it and not feel I’m sending us on a failed mission.

Are we all okay with Future as our choice?

Also - received the okay from MKat on the Kate Daniels series with this reminder -
The Kate Daniels series will work if there is a futuristic or future tag - I looked at the first book and it does

Kira the Magic Bite is fine to read!

Thanks Ladies!

message 414: by Kira (new)

Kira (kirac) | 547 comments I had picked through all my options looking for the "futuristic" tag. I'm glad that's enough!

I started Slave to Sensation today in audio because it was a ridiculous driving day for work. I have a paperback of Magic Bites that I found at the most disorganized used book store and it's now hanging out on my disorganized book shelves. Which is not that useful when driving/working as it turns out.

message 415: by Kirsten (last edited May 30, 2022 07:15PM) (new)

Kirsten | 238 comments Okay, I’m a little freaking out. Do the books have to be tagged as futuristic? The ones I’m thinking of all clearly take place in the future, but they don’t have that tag.

How High We Go in the Dark
Klara and the Sun
Soul Eater

Also, if we’re choosing future for me… don’t! I’m not sure we’re all on board? I know I’d prefer historical, but I can do anything. My tbr is huge.

Okay.

Let’s pause.
Sorry Kirsten! I thought the Future choice would help as you had books you called out. I thought we could help. I'm so sorry. I should have asked again if Future was still a good choice.

M - I’m SO SORRY!! Alien kink can get … excessively creative … I guess is the best way to put it.

What do we all REALLY want to read.

We all had mentioned that we could go either way with the choice. Future is looking like it may not be the fully right choice.

No shame in changing our minds if we need to/want to/feel like it.

What would you all really like to read?

And - Lucifer Morningstar because I can't ask any "What is it.." questions without hearing this in my head. 🤷🤣

message 419: by Kirsten (new)

Kirsten | 238 comments I would prefer to read historical. But it looks like M has started future already, and so have I.

I’m sorry.

Also, thanks M, for Soul Eater info. I thought it had to be an MPG tag.

Maggie Robinson (librariansdaughter77) | 1485 comments Uggghhhhh

I feel horrible. I feel like I'm making us all read stuff we really don't want to.

I REALLY don't mind switching gears to historical if that would be more enjoyable for everyone - regardless of what we've started reading.

If we do want to continue on with Future - how can I help? I'm home all day today - let me be your librarian and your researcher.

What sorts of books can I help find or collect?

M- I'm a chapter away from finishing Lawless that MC story set in the future. I checked books 1 - 3 and they all have futuristic tags. Lawless states that the world is the US in 2100- so the series definitely fits. It suuuuuupppppppppeeeerrrrr slow burn. As in, I don't think we've gotten beyond flirting and a cuddle in the first book. It's really good though. I'm really into the story line and I'm not sure exactly where it's going other then there is a massive betrayal, trust issues, and a power struggle.

Looking at the examples M posted last night - some of Jayne Castle/ Jayne Ann Krentzbooks would meet futuristic tags.
Looking at her series - Rainshadow, Ghost Hunters, and some of the Arcane Society have futuristic tags either on MPG or in their top shelves.
I own three books which I can loan through Kindle. They are spread around within series between Jayne Castle and Jayne Ann but they should be readable as standalones -
Obsidian Prey (Ghost Hunters, #6) by Jayne Castle Midnight Crystal (Ghost Hunters, #7; Arcane Society #9; Dreamlight Trilogy #3) by Jayne Castle Sweet Starfire (Lost Colony, #1) by Jayne Ann Krentz

I do own two larger page reads that are definitely MPG Furturistic. I'd purchased them for a TBC task and never got around to reading them. I can loan them through Kindle. They are:
Cassandra's Challenge (Imperial, #1) by M.K. Eidem Victoria's Challenge (Imperial, #2) by M.K. Eidem
Cassandra is a 700 page monster. Victoria is a more reasonable 400 page read.

The Psy Changeling series by Nalini Singh is futuristic. The first book Slave to Sensation (Psy-Changeling, #1) by Nalini Singh has a futurisc tag in the first page of top shelves. The series overall has looked good to me the few times I've looked at it. There are various books within the series that have caught my eye or shown up in searches. Unfortunately these books aren't in KU and I don't own any of them. They may be available in your libraries for loan via Hoolpa or Libby.

Fated Blades (Kinsmen, #3) by Ilona Andrews is in KU and has a futuristic tag on the first page of Top Shelves. Most of Ilona Andrews books would meet the futuristic tag. Her Kate Daniels series does. She is another author whom I don't own any works by, but may show up in Hoopla or Libby for library loans.

I also own Black and Blue (Otherworld Assassin, #2) by Gena Showalter by Gena Showalteron Kindle and I can lend it out. It also has a futuristic tag on the first page of top shelves. This one was an interesting read. The FMC is a doctor from what I remember and hates the MMC as he is an alien and a fighter, and something else. She's feisty and STEM. He's playing the dumb jock when he's more than that. Gena is another author who straddles futuristic and paranormal. I own a lot of her works in paperback.

That's what I've found looking through my collection of reads and a quick search right now.
I need to do a search in my Kindle library to see what I have for Paranormal or Urban Fantasy or Fantasy that also carry the Futuristic tag.

I think my Freesy, BookBub, and two other newsletters have popped into my email as well, so I'll sift through the urban fantasy genre and see if there are any good freebies out there today.

And I can browse the Goodreads main page as well.

I'm SO SORRY for getting us into this rabbit hole!

I think I got whiny and grumpy because my Scavenger Hunt challenge has a motorcycle, a SF, a musician for the 2nd month in a row, and an alpha male. I really don’t read most of those, except musicians, and I struggled to find one I hadn’t read last month, and have to do it again.

Finally finished.
Pig kids, death trips, time jumps, grief.

I made a promise to myself to read more lit fic this year, but I crave that HEA dopamine hit so much that it’s hard. I picked this up in March and put it right back down, read 2 chapters in April before going back to hot guys falling in love and lust and finished it!

M - I was going to suggest Ice Planet LOL I know a lot of readers in Pippa Grant and Claire Kingsley's reader groups have picked these up and were surprised at how they liked them - but same thing as I told Kirsten - no slogging through and reading things you hate!

My daughter reminded me that I also have a bad habit of downloading "weird and odd mystery stuff" that come in as freebies or that I find. So I can still run searches on my Kindle to see what I own and can loan out.

My bestie and her husband who are in IT have made comments more than once about my Kindle library requiring it's own mainframe. Or being my own section of the online Library of Little Known Little Read Books in the Library of Congress I've got to have something for everyone in there by now.

Review: I was pleasantly surprised by this book. It has a super slow build up, however the plot and the story line are solid. Set in 2100 America, our society has utterly collapsed leaving all women without any rights, or access to education. Mariposa, the FMC, graduated with her nursing degree just hours before the laws passed blocking her from holding a professional title. She's on a solo journey from the depths of Texas to Canada trying to reach a country that will recognize her as a human with rights as well as her education and her professional skills. Instead she's kidnapped from a resting stop by a band of bikers and taken back to their compound. The series is 10 books long and it appears that the long planned story arc will cover the entirety of them. I'm not sure if I can make it through all 10, however this 1st one will get me through into the second book. It's billed as a reverse harem, and it's getting there, however it's not the main plot point. The guys in the club are working to learn to trust Mari and are questioning how women are treated, how they remember women being treated precollapse, and how they think she should be treated. Each of the main characters has a complex backstory which leads them to their "today". We got the abridged version of Reaper's in this first book, and pieces of Mari's as well. The second book appears to start coloring in Jandro's and Shadow's stories. I like the play on politics, women's rights, human rights, the mad max meets civil war like setting the author has given the book. The plot isn't riddled with "me man, you woman, I'm automatically right". I'm surprised at how well written the story was as well as how much I was pulled into the story. I'm on to book 2 now.

Review Woah this was.... different lol. Can't say I've ever had the pleasure of reading an alien romance before.

Some aspects were familiar to me and some were so far out there! I mean, I guess when it's sci fi anything and everything is up for grabs. Most things are extra size or a new fun color.

Lyra does some fun things when she has pleasure.
Serpint had an extra one to give pleasure with.
Royal tests, piercings and lost princesses.
Together they were so hot for each other.

I didn't get the whole love for their ships. Like love, love. But again it's stuff I don't normally read so that might be a thing.

I don't think I'll continue with the series, but I can for sure this off the tbr list.

Review: This has been lingering on my TBR forever. It seems to be one of the staple long PNR series. I had to slow down the audio and repeat some sections for comprehension, which was a little annoying. But at the same time, I think it was because the world and plot are complex and immersive, which were good things. There was some sexy dream action which was pretty fun, but the spice died off for the last half of the book. Definitely worthwhile and I am looking forward to the rest of the series!

Review: Story is still going well. I'm more into the actual post apocalypse storyline than the romance story line truthfully. It's really well written with a bunch of twists, turns, sub plots, and such. The romance part is sort of a distraction. I'm also getting annoyed with this book being labeled a reverse harem. It's a true poly relationship. Each of the partners is invited in, they all discuss the relationship, the boundaries, rules, and limits for themselves as a group. It's a really great representation of a group poly in writing actually. I can see where the story needs to be dragged through 10 books. With the lack of true meaningful and truthful representation of poly relationships in writing, the author could have written the entire series on just the group creating their relationship within the home of the MC with the world going to pieces outside of them as a back drop. She's juggling two very strong and well plotted stories within one series. It's beginning to pull and dull my interest a little. She'll focus on the post apolyctic war things for a few chapters, then switch to the relationship matters - which aren't even fully physical - and then go back to the we're living in a war zone with no rules story line. It's whip lashing. I'll probablly pick this up for another challenge if I don't have a chance to read it for fun later this year. They are faster reads. The story line continues to be well maintained with minimal plot holes, the power and equality issues of male/female within this world continue to swing with the main MMCs becoming less rigid in keeping their "I'm a man's man" face on in public and showing respect as well as trust in Mari and the President's sister in this story. The plot is inching it's way to better rights and a balance of male/female power within their bubble. Not a bad find. Not sorry I found it. But ready to move on for a bit. I'm missing my whiney sports ball guys and dark emo broken humans who may actually be psychopaths.
