I've got to do some reading so I can post to this list. The only historicals that I've read that aren't het are mmf.

message 2: by [deleted user] (new)

Marilla, there are some great books on this list! I recommend Ava March! She's awesome.

message 3: by Jenn (new)

Jenn Wow...who know this was such a large genre! haha

Barbara Gem(ini) "Wicked Gentlemen" is definitely not a historical romance, it's a fantasy.

message 5: by Lori (new)

Lori Barbara wrote: ""Wicked Gentlemen" is definitely not a historical romance, it's a fantasy."

You're correct Barbara so I've removed it from the list.

message 6: by yoksan (new)

yoksan Wow, thanks for this. I'll need to get myself on some of these books!

message 7: by Melora (new)

Melora I deleted the interloper book from the list. Anyone with a legitimate account that wants to vote for it again may do so.

message 8: by [deleted user] (new)

A Midwinter Prince is not historical either, it has computers and cellphones etc. It is a good book, but it doesn't belong on this list.

message 9: by Kate (new)

Kate I wrote an article about m/m historical then whined about not being able to find a place to link to it here at goodreads. Shannon pointed me to this thread. http://www.heroesandheartbreakers.com...

message 10: by Bookbee (new)

Bookbee Just a silly comment...
Secret Light is listed here as "Historical". It's set in 1955. I was born before then, so logically I am also "Historical"...which I find hysterical! LOL!

Vintage. I think anyone born before 1960 is considered vintage, like a really nice wine.

Bookbee Kate wrote: "Vintage. I think anyone born before 1960 is considered vintage, like a really nice wine."

Oh, I like that MUCH better!

message 13: by Venecia (new)

Venecia Last call by DJ Manly is not historical.

message 14: by ttg (new)

ttg Mongrel by KZ Snow isn't a historical. It's more fantasy/steampunk in an AU world with special beings.

message 15: by Pwnn (new)

Pwnn The Steel Remains (A Land Fit for Heroes, #1)
by Richard K. Morgan - Fantasy and there's no romance

Every Good Thing by M. Jules Aedin - Fantasy

Like the Taste of Summer by Kaje Harper - Are the 1980s considered historical now?

message 16: by Christopher (new)

Christopher Moss What a wonderful list..

Come visit Our Story GLBTQ Historical Fiction at www.glbtbooksshelf.com for more historical titles.

message 17: by Kate (new)

Kate Hiya, Christopher, that link doesn't work.

You can also just Google GLBT Bookshelf.

Just look for the OUr Story banner on the page.

message 19: by Christopher (new)

message 22: by Karan (new)

Karan Since it looks like this story is set in the year 2040, wouldn't this fit better in a sci-fI category?

You can add them to the list.

Agree with the Steel Remains it's a fantasy/sci fi mix, and far from romance.

message 25: by Kaje (new)

Kaje Harper Think of England is here twice - 162 and 189

message 26: by Rainbowheart (new)

Rainbowheart Thanks for the heads up! I ran a duplicate check, and all double entries should be combined now.

message 27: by Hamidabigmouth (new)

Hamidabigmouth Definitely recommend reading "The Desire for Dearborne by V.B. Kildaire"

message 28: by Kaje (new)

Kaje Harper 242 Wicked Gentlemen by Ginn Hale is amazing but it is so far into Alternate Universe with ghetto-bound Prodigals = demons that I don't think it belongs with historicals.

message 29: by Ava (new)

Ava Recommend: Captive prince vol 1, 2 , 3. The lion on the crow, If it ain't love.

message 30: by Ava (new)

Ava Recommend Skybound,

message 31: by Chancellor (last edited Oct 08, 2016 09:24PM) (new)

Chancellor Fangirl This list would be, oh, a million times more useful to my life without the fantasy novels cluttering it up. If it was just, you know, HISTORICAL FICTION. Sigh.

ETA I'd love to look at a list for Fantasy M/M, for the record. I'd just appreciate separate lists.

message 32: by Booklovinglady (last edited Dec 24, 2016 01:57PM) (new)

Booklovinglady Brideshead Revisited (#176) was published in 1945, so it's not exactly an historical novel... Same goes for The Picture of Dorian Gray (#209) which was first published in 1890.

message 33: by WMD (last edited Feb 12, 2017 05:44PM) (new)

WMD This list has become a weird mix. I don't think publication date should define if it belongs in the historical romance, but the context of the romance story.

All the KJ Charles stories listed are fantasy (except Think of England and the Society of Gentlemen series(e.g., A Fashionable Indulgence)), as are all the Jordan Hawk books. Can these be cleared out?

This list would be helped very much by some boundaries to the definition of historical romance...a lot of romances set in historical times (earlier than 1900 ) are not usually very clear about what era or year they are set in, though (e.g., Regency, Victorian, etc.), so I wouldn't be too bounded!

To address this, the opening list-defining paragraph could be expanded to say that the list is looking for "mm romance stories set in historical contexts . Magical, fantasy and paranormal stories, even if they have an historical feel, should not be included here."

Listopia lists are defined by the creator of the list and generally edited by the creator, so unless the creator comes back and re-defines the list, it won't change.

A list like you have described would be useful. Perhaps you could consider starting one?

Jo * Smut-Dickted * We can adjust the list if it is not correct - librarian's have editing privileges - however w/o the originator defining the specifics I personally don't usually edit. Because I do not know the intention.

I removed Last Call which is most definitely not historical. Not sure why it was on here.

message 36: by Kaje (last edited Jul 31, 2017 08:47AM) (new)

Kaje Harper # 262 - as much as I love Luck in the Shadows it is high fantasy, not even AU historical; same for Kim Fielding's The Pillar at 307

message 37: by Booklovinglady (last edited Oct 24, 2017 12:17PM) (new)

There is a difference between 'historical' novels/romance and just 'old' novels/romance... At least there is in my book.

message 38: by Reader (new)

Reader Where are they now?-hope they are well. . .

Peeps, feel free to add to this list.

message 39: by Kragthang (new)

Kragthang Hexbreaker by Jordan L. Hawk is twice in the list. On page 4 and page 7.

message 40: by Booklovinglady (new)

Booklovinglady Kragthang wrote: "Hexbreaker by Jordan L. Hawk is twice in the list. On page 4 and page 7."

Shouldn't be, as the duplicate check (for librarians) came up with nothing.

Which numbers?

message 41: by Kragthang (new)

Kragthang @Booklovinglady
Thanks for checking. Maybe someone else already took care of it.
I voted for both books and today only one vote is visible. I also scrolled through the pages and could only find one book today.

message 42: by Eric (new)

Eric Milosavich anyone know any books in this genre that is sent in the 1920s?

message 43: by Tamara (new)

Tamara Captive Prince isn't historical, it's fantasy. It shouldn't be on this list.

message 44: by Booklovinglady (last edited Sep 19, 2018 11:14PM) (new)

Booklovinglady Tamara (緑) wrote: "Captive Prince isn't historical, it's fantasy. It shouldn't be on this list."

I can remove it if you like, just give me the number the book is on. (I had a look at your profile; you can just as easily remove it yourself, as you are a GR librarian too...)

message 45: by Sara (new)

Sara White From the books on this list that I've read, a huge number are not historical, but are fantasy, sf, paranormal, or set in other universes.
I don't even know if I can list them all, there are so many.
Starting with the first few:
Numbers 1, 2, 5, 7, 8, 9, 14, 18, 30, 36, 44, 74, 77, 90, 96, 103, 105, 121, 134, 183, 190, 195, 214, 225, 251, 272, 283, 284, 302, 317, 334, 336, 366, 372, 292, 295, 414, 452, 503, 517... and it goes on and on.
All the books by Jordan Hawk are fantasy. Some books by KJ Charles. There are several time travel books on this list that obviously don't belong there. The Captive Prince books and some books by Megan Derr are fantasy. And those are just the books I've read. Some look like fantasy, just by their covers.
This list needs a total overhaul to come anywhere close to accurate.
