2022 Pick-It-For-Me Relay

I saw quite a few books on your shelf that It looks like we both enjoyed.
I loved The Grapes of Wrath by John Steinbeck and hope you will too."
Betty, ..."
Thanks Betty, that worked. Your next read is The Forgotten Garden by Kate Morton. I loved this book, and hope you will too!

Your next read is The Glass Castle by Jeannette Walls. I loved this book and the author's perseverance.
For my next read, please choose from my TBR - top shelf. Thanks!

For you I choose Bared to You by Sylvia Day!
For whoever chooses for me please pick off my books I own TBR shelf!

Saar, I assume this book choice is for Hannah (not Brittany).

This book made me feel and think in ways I never had before... As a human I have never felt so small and insignificant, yet at the same time understand that it's an absolute miracle that I am living today. It's an approachable science book that I think should be on everyone's list.

Adrienne, your next book is Endurance: Shackleton's Incredible Voyage, by an actual crew member, Alfred Lansing. This was my mom's go to recommendation for 'a good book' or 'an adventure' or just about anything else when she worked in a library. Neither she nor I read a whole lot of historical memoir but we both gave it five stars. Just an amazing true story, well told, with photos.
Next person please choose from my sony-or-android shelf, something that's not too long, please. (There are a lot of picture-books on there, so if you sort by page number you'll probably have to best luck finding something intriguing that's maybe about 250 pp or so.)

Brittany: I loved Heidi as a child by Johanna Spyri and have fond memories of reading it on my only trip to Europe while in elementary school. Given that you liked so many other youth classics that I enjoyed (the Anne series!), I really think this might be a pleasant read and lift up spirit type of book.
Christy wrote: "I enjoyed Jennifer's recommendation of Born a Crime by Trevor Noah. It was funny, sad, direct, surprising. Thank you for the prompt to finally read this.

Cheryl: I know it is nonfiction, but if you haven't gotten a copy of your own of Mrs. Sharp's Victorian Traditions, I suggest this as your next read through. I have owned a different, older, cover version of this for years and just find it delightful to return to and thumb through with the different seasons. It has recipes, crafts, decorating, bits of history. It may be a catch-all best enjoyed as a reference each month.
Honestly, I love your children's and short story books on that shelf. Saturday is a good one and I always love The Secret Life of Walter Mitty. If you don't want the nonfiction right now, I can happily pick the same number of pages in kids and short story as they are favorites of mine.

We seem to have gotten a bit askew....
Are you asking for a recommendation, Christy, or is anyone else?

I found it on your big 'to-read' shelf by running a compare books, your to-read vs. my read, scanning down for a book that I rated highly.
Christy, Walter Mitty was short, and I'm done; I did like, thank you. I dnf'd Mrs. Sharp because it was not at all what I thought when I added it. So, I'm in need of another recommendation from my sony-or-android shelf!
I think Heidi is indeed for Brittany. It's not for me because I've already read it. Anyway, I'm not convinced that somebody didn't get skipped, so I do volunteer to rec. to her or whomever.

Hi Cheryl! So I looked through your Sony/Android shelf and the one book I read recently is Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen. This is a classic that I really enjoyed the banter between the characters and it's great to watch the movie after you have read the book. I think you'll really enjoy it.
For the next person picking my book please pick from my TBR Book Shelf - https://www.goodreads.com/review/list...

Meanwhile, JoJo, I recommend Flowers for Algernon. It breaks my heart every time I read it. Maybe because I read it first when young oh so many years ago, but I think it's timeless.

I recommend The Goose Girl. I haven't read the book yet, but I know the story, and I think it's super sweet.
To the person who will pick my next book to read: please choose one from my physical-tbr. Thank you <3

For whomever chooses for me please choose from my books-I-own-tbr shelf :)

Hannah, I was surprised by how much I enjoyed My Life Next Door. And since you own it, yes indeed, you should read it! ;)

Hi Cheryl...Just wanted to make sure you knew that you're only supposed to post a comment of a recommendation for a book once you've finished reading the last book recommended for you and you're ready for another book to read. I just wanted to make you are aware, because I think that may be what is confusing others about who is next for a book recommendation.
OK, so let's reset by giving Hannah a new book to read. Please select from her bookshelf labelled "books-I-own-tbr".
Reminder to respond ONLY when you are ready for a new book yourself.

Perfect read for a cold wintery day (at least it's wintery here in Michigan...lol). I read it last year and enjoyed it. I hope you do too.
For me, if the person could choose from my Ready-To-Be-Read shelf.
Thank you!

to whoever chooses for me: please choose from my tbr-soon shelf, thanks!

Leslie, you didn't specify a shelf, so I picked from your to-read. I loved

To whomever, please pick from my Very Next Up Shelf.

Jennifer, I pick Twelve Angry Men as your next read! It is short but I picked it because when I sorted your shelf by date, it has been on your shelf the longest so I figure it will feel great to check it off! :)
Please pick my next read from the following shelf: https://www.goodreads.com/review/list...

If you'd asked me what had been on my shelf the longest, there is ZERO chance I would have guessed that. Talk about being forgotten! Thanks for the pick! Time to get it moving.

Samantha I’ve only read 3 books from your pick-me shelf so I recommend The Ten Thousand Doors of January. It’s a bit odd and a slow to start but I really enjoyed it.
For whomever is picking for me, please select one from the following shelves
- sitting on my books shelf
- in progress pausing
- library on hold

I looked at your shelves and I have not read very many of these books, but I can highly recommend The Lies of Locke Lamora, from your library on hold shelf. It is not an epic fantasy with great battles and magical systems. It is more about the characters, family, and friendships. It is quite dark, but does have a lot of humour.
For anybody choosing for me I need something to jolt me out of a 2 year reading slump, so not too heavy going, and if you have something not on my want to read list, but think would be great, please recommend.

I checked out your Want To Read list and since you don't want anything too heavy, I chose :
The Guardians

As for me, if the next person could choose from my 'Ready To Be Read' list. Thanks!

Hi Tony,
I took a look at your Ready to be Read list and I would like to pick
https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1...
My Nana always loved to read Louis L'Amour and always told me I should try reading some of his books too.
For the next reader picking my title, Please pick from my tbr-bookshelf: https://www.goodreads.com/review/list...

I guess we're all finishing our books right now haha. Looking at your shelf and I've read quite a bit of books on your list that I totally recommend BUT as I was scrolling, I saw one that I recently read and absolutely loved - The People We Keep by Allison Larkin. Goodreads is being dumb currently and won't pull up the book so here is the link instead:

Next person, please use the following shelf:
https://www.goodreads.com/review/list...

I went through your preferred list and i have chosen city of ghosts by V. E. Schwab. i personally have not read this but i have added it to my tbr because it sounds really good!
to the person picking my book, it doesn’t matter whether you pick my next read off my tbr or if you just have a really good book to recommend! I like all genres!

For you I choose Ugly Love!
It is one of my favourite books!
For whomever picks for me, please choose from the following shelf:
https://www.goodreads.com/review/list...

for you I choose The 7½ Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle - I hope you enjoy it :)
For my next pick, please choose a book from my "bookcase_unread" shelf. That'd be great.

Lena, The Word for Woman is Wilderness looks fascinating. I recommend that you read it, and then come back and tell us if you recommend it. :)
Next picker, please choose from my sony-android shelf. If you can, please choose something not too long, not too heavy.
https://www.goodreads.com/review/list...

Cheryl, (if not for your not too heavy, I'd pick Fool's War), but given the not too heavy part...Mog the Forgetful Cat...this looks like a good light read. :)

For me, please choose from my "To Be Read" List. Thanks!
First, a shout-out to Lena for picking my last book read Wild: From Lost to Found on the Pacific Crest Trail. I hiked along with the author and loved this inspirational memoir. Thanks!
Tony, for you I choose a great classic read: Wuthering Heights by Emily Brontë. The story surprised me and was way more compelling than I had expected. Hope you find it interesting too.
Now ready for my next great read. What's it to be?

Renata, for you I would like to pick https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2...
I listened to this on audio awhile ago with my book club and I enjoyed it. After I finished the book I watched the movie, starring Tom Hanks and really enjoyed the movie as well. So I would suggest watching the movie too!
For the next Bookish Friend making a pick for me, please pick from my tbr-bookshelf: https://www.goodreads.com/review/list...

JoJo your next read is Island of the Blue Dolphins by Scott O'Dell. This is one of my absolute favorite books of all-time. Every time I have read it, I've finished it in one sitting. I hope you love it too!
Whoever picks for me, please choose from my "tbr-up-next" bookshelf: https://www.goodreads.com/review/list...

Brittany, Flowers for Algernon is one of my very favorite books. I opine that it's time it comes off your tbr shelf and gets read.
Next person, I am ready for another light or lightish read from my https://www.goodreads.com/review/list... shelf, please.

Cheryl - With your huge list of options, I decided to do a random # generator and see what it came up with for an option haha :) It laned with Key to the Treasure. This looks cute so definitely let us know how it is!
For my next read - please choose from the following shelf:

Hi Brittany, I changed my settings. Let me know if that works. I didn't realize I had it as private.
