Thanks Betty, that worked. Your next read is The Forgotten Garden by Kate Morton. I loved this book, and hope you will too!

Melissa (mkk2715) | 208 comments Hi Brittany!
Your next read is The Glass Castle by Jeannette Walls. I loved this book and the author's perseverance.

For my next read, please choose from my TBR - top shelf. Thanks!

message 54: by Hannah (new)

Hannah (hkolke) Hi Melissa,
For you I choose Bared to You by Sylvia Day!

For whoever chooses for me please pick off my books I own TBR shelf!

Saar The Book owl | 542 comments Hi Brittany, I choose The Guest List for you. I liked the first book of the author, but this I need to read yet.

Saar, I assume this book choice is for Hannah (not Brittany).

Saar The Book owl | 542 comments Yes, sorry, I got confused.

message 58: by Adrienne (new)

Adrienne | 434 comments Saar your next book isAstrophysics for People in a Hurry by Neil deGrasse Tyson.
This book made me feel and think in ways I never had before... As a human I have never felt so small and insignificant, yet at the same time understand that it's an absolute miracle that I am living today. It's an approachable science book that I think should be on everyone's list.

message 59: by Cheryl (last edited Feb 14, 2022 05:27PM) (new)

Cheryl (cherylllr) I finished Touch of Power and it was a good change from what I usually choose. Thank you, Lindsay, without your nudge I might never have gotten around to it.

Adrienne, your next book is Endurance: Shackleton's Incredible Voyage, by an actual crew member, Alfred Lansing. This was my mom's go to recommendation for 'a good book' or 'an adventure' or just about anything else when she worked in a library. Neither she nor I read a whole lot of historical memoir but we both gave it five stars. Just an amazing true story, well told, with photos.

Next person please choose from my sony-or-android ‎shelf, something that's not too long, please. (There are a lot of picture-books on there, so if you sort by page number you'll probably have to best luck finding something intriguing that's maybe about 250 pp or so.)

message 60: by Christy (new)

Christy Baker I enjoyed Jennifer's recommendation of Born a Crime by Trevor Noah. It was funny, sad, direct, surprising. Thank you for the prompt to finally read this.

Brittany: I loved Heidi as a child by Johanna Spyri and have fond memories of reading it on my only trip to Europe while in elementary school. Given that you liked so many other youth classics that I enjoyed (the Anne series!), I really think this might be a pleasant read and lift up spirit type of book.

message 62: by Christy (new)

Christy Baker Hmm... something must have gone astray with my refresh as when I looked this morning, Jennifer's post was right above mine. Well...I stand by it being a good choice for Jennifer at some point, but let's get a book chosen for Cheryl!

Cheryl: I know it is nonfiction, but if you haven't gotten a copy of your own of Mrs. Sharp's Victorian Traditions, I suggest this as your next read through. I have owned a different, older, cover version of this for years and just find it delightful to return to and thumb through with the different seasons. It has recipes, crafts, decorating, bits of history. It may be a catch-all best enjoyed as a reference each month.

Honestly, I love your children's and short story books on that shelf. Saturday is a good one and I always love The Secret Life of Walter Mitty. If you don't want the nonfiction right now, I can happily pick the same number of pages in kids and short story as they are favorites of mine.

message 63: by Cheryl (new)

Cheryl (cherylllr) Christy, those are all great suggestions! Right now I'm totally in the mood for The Secret Life of Walter Mitty so Thank You!

We seem to have gotten a bit askew....
Are you asking for a recommendation, Christy, or is anyone else?

message 64: by Renata (new)

Renata (renatag) | 1478 comments Mod
Next book selection goes to Christy.

message 65: by Cheryl (new)

Cheryl (cherylllr) Ok, Christy, you must read The Princess and the Goblin, especially because you like "Mrs. Sharp" (they're both old [fashioned] and flavored with faith).

I found it on your big 'to-read' shelf by running a compare books, your to-read vs. my read, scanning down for a book that I rated highly.

Christy, Walter Mitty was short, and I'm done; I did like, thank you. I dnf'd Mrs. Sharp because it was not at all what I thought when I added it. So, I'm in need of another recommendation from my sony-or-android shelf!

I think Heidi is indeed for Brittany. It's not for me because I've already read it. Anyway, I'm not convinced that somebody didn't get skipped, so I do volunteer to rec. to her or whomever.

message 66: by Brittany (new)

Hi Cheryl! So I looked through your Sony/Android shelf and the one book I read recently is Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen. This is a classic that I really enjoyed the banter between the characters and it's great to watch the movie after you have read the book. I think you'll really enjoy it.

For the next person picking my book please pick from my TBR Book Shelf - https://www.goodreads.com/review/list...

message 70: by Cheryl (last edited Feb 19, 2022 06:35PM) (new)

Cheryl (cherylllr) Oh no! That's actually not even supposed to be on my list! Would you mind trying again, please?

Meanwhile, JoJo, I recommend Flowers for Algernon. It breaks my heart every time I read it. Maybe because I read it first when young oh so many years ago, but I think it's timeless.

Miriam (riareadstoomuch) | 216 comments Hey Cheryl! I'm pretty confused right now, but I guess I'm just gonna pick another one for you :)

I recommend The Goose Girl. I haven't read the book yet, but I know the story, and I think it's super sweet.

To the person who will pick my next book to read: please choose one from my physical-tbr. Thank you <3

message 72: by Hannah (new)

Hannah (hkolke) Hi Miriam, for you I choose The Poet X by Elizabeth Acevedo. I haven’t read this book but I have heard great things about it and it is on my tbr!

For whomever chooses for me please choose from my books-I-own-tbr shelf :)

message 73: by Cheryl (new)

Cheryl (cherylllr) Ok, thanks Miriam, I have been thinking about rereading The Goose Girl by Shannon Hale.

Hannah, I was surprised by how much I enjoyed My Life Next Door. And since you own it, yes indeed, you should read it! ;)

Hi Cheryl...Just wanted to make sure you knew that you're only supposed to post a comment of a recommendation for a book once you've finished reading the last book recommended for you and you're ready for another book to read. I just wanted to make you are aware, because I think that may be what is confusing others about who is next for a book recommendation.

Perfect read for a cold wintery day (at least it's wintery here in Michigan...lol). I read it last year and enjoyed it. I hope you do too.

For me, if the person could choose from my Ready-To-Be-Read shelf.

Thank you!

Jennifer (jhaltenburger) I finished my last pick -- The Queen's Gambit by Walter Tevis -- what a riveting read!

Leslie, you didn't specify a shelf, so I picked from your to-read. I loved Dear Mrs. Bird (The Emmy Lake Chronicles #1) by A.J. Pearce - it has one character who is so horrifying you can hardly take your eyes off her. So that's my pick for you.

To whomever, please pick from my Very Next Up Shelf.

If you'd asked me what had been on my shelf the longest, there is ZERO chance I would have guessed that. Talk about being forgotten! Thanks for the pick! Time to get it moving.

message 85: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer | 341 comments Cheryl thank you for the pick. I read it 3 more times. A little over my head but if you know more about meditation retreats and Buddhism then it could be a good choice.

Samantha I’ve only read 3 books from your pick-me shelf so I recommend The Ten Thousand Doors of January. It’s a bit odd and a slow to start but I really enjoyed it.

For whomever is picking for me, please select one from the following shelves
- sitting on my books shelf
- in progress pausing
- library on hold

message 86: by Diana (new)

Diana | 101 comments Hi Jennifer
I looked at your shelves and I have not read very many of these books, but I can highly recommend The Lies of Locke Lamora, from your library on hold shelf. It is not an epic fantasy with great battles and magical systems. It is more about the characters, family, and friendships. It is quite dark, but does have a lot of humour.

For anybody choosing for me I need something to jolt me out of a 2 year reading slump, so not too heavy going, and if you have something not on my want to read list, but think would be great, please recommend.

message 87: by Tony (last edited Mar 16, 2022 08:28AM) (new)

Tony (flintflash) | 48 comments Hi Diana!

I checked out your Want To Read list and since you don't want anything too heavy, I chose :
The Guardians The Guardians by John Grisham by John Grisham I found it an easy, fun read. Hopefully this will help get you out of your reading slump.

As for me, if the next person could choose from my 'Ready To Be Read' list. Thanks!

I guess we're all finishing our books right now haha. Looking at your shelf and I've read quite a bit of books on your list that I totally recommend BUT as I was scrolling, I saw one that I recently read and absolutely loved - The People We Keep by Allison Larkin. Goodreads is being dumb currently and won't pull up the book so here is the link instead:

Pixiegirl105 | 64 comments Well, read and finished The Kite Runner today. I knew it was going to be a little heavy and am now carrying that for the moment. Going to need something a little lighter from my Want to Read list.

Cheryl, (if not for your not too heavy, I'd pick Fool's War), but given the not too heavy part...Mog the Forgetful Cat...this looks like a good light read. :)

message 95: by Tony (new)

Tony (flintflash) | 48 comments Ok Pixiegirl105...time for a lighter read. For you, I chose The Westing Game The Westing Game by Ellen Raskin by Ellen Raskin I recently read it and found it a fun, easy read.

First, a shout-out to Lena for picking my last book read Wild: From Lost to Found on the Pacific Crest Trail. I hiked along with the author and loved this inspirational memoir. Thanks!

Tony, for you I choose a great classic read: Wuthering Heights by Emily Brontë. The story surprised me and was way more compelling than I had expected. Hope you find it interesting too.

Now ready for my next great read. What's it to be?

message 97: by JoJo_theDodo (new)

Renata, for you I would like to pick https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2...
I listened to this on audio awhile ago with my book club and I enjoyed it. After I finished the book I watched the movie, starring Tom Hanks and really enjoyed the movie as well. So I would suggest watching the movie too!

message 98: by Brittany (new)

Brittany | 87 comments Thanks for picking The Glass Castle for me Melissa! I don't know how long it would have taken me to get to that book without your recommendation, and I absolutely loved it.

JoJo your next read is Island of the Blue Dolphins by Scott O'Dell. This is one of my absolute favorite books of all-time. Every time I have read it, I've finished it in one sitting. I hope you love it too!

Cheryl (cherylllr) Pixiegirl105, thank you for Mog the Forgetful Cat. I wasn't overly impressed but will read another in the series before giving up.
