Sandra wrote: "Congrats, Kristie! I guess it is like being breastfeeding again. :)"True. Only difference is that she was just taken away from her siblings and is in the crate by herself for the first time, so she whines and want me to put my fingers into the crate until she falls back to sleep so she knows she's not alone.
Also, during the day the issue is that she doesn't wear diapers like the babies did. I've been cleaning up after her all day.

Sandra wrote: "Kristie wrote: "she whines and want me to put my fingers into the crate until she falls back to sleep so she knows she's not alone. "That is so cute. Exhausting, but super cute."
It really is. :) She would chew or lick my fingers, then lay down against them and fall asleep. I would take my hand back and try to fall asleep, then it would repeat. I'll have to wean her off that, but it will take some time.
I remember when I was 13 or 14 years old and we got a new puppy, Mafalda. The first night she whined a lot. We were all the time getting up to comfort her, mostly my sister and me. At some point in the middle of the night I was just too exhausted so I took her to my bed and we slept many hours without any more whining. My mother wasn't very happy in the morning. She didn't want Mafalda to get used to sleep in our beds, but I don't remember that being an issue. The second night was better and then she just kept sleeping in her crate the whole night. What is her name, by the way?
We don't have a name for her yet. This all happened pretty quickly. We sent the rescue an email that we wanted to adopt one day and went to pick her up the next day. We had no time to think about names ahead of time and now we keep tossing them back and forth but we haven't settled on one. We're hoping to choose one tonight so we can call her something consistently.

Here’s a good question that I think I may have answered in the negative, considering how much I knew about it!
MR GENTLEMAN: Minister, how have the centenary balloon and other promotions raised the profile of the ACT across Australia and internationally?
The puppy sounds really cute, Kristie. I've heard that people have put a teddy bear or other stuffie into the crate with them. I don't know if it works, but it gives them something to cuddle with.
Kristie wrote: "We are getting a new puppy tonight and I am a bit concerned about our weather. It is supposed to be cold, rainy, snowy all week. The puppy is only 9 weeks old. She's never been outside, so has not ..."Oh a puppy! Hearts will melt.
She has already started this evening better than last, though it was a tough day for a little while. The stress upset her belly and she isn't house trained yet...yuck. We took her for her first walk today and at first she wanted nothing to do with it, but then I think she had fun. She did really well for having been her first time on a leash. She's had a lot of firsts in the past couple of days and overall she's doing well. I found a stuffed animal (it's actually empty) with a velcro back. You are supposed to wear a piece of clothing and put it in the stuffy and your scent calms the animal, so we are trying that tonight. She seemed to do ok in the crate today as long as she could see me. It's when I was out of sight that she lost it. Hopefully, the scent will be calming for her when I'm not around and help her tonight.
She is a German Shepard mix, Rus. Looks sort of lab like, but they don't know what she's mixed with. She was a rescue. I have the feeling she's going to be pretty big. I'll post pictures as soon as I have a few consecutive minutes to accomplish something.

He is a orange tabby and we might be spoiling him a little as he ..."Thanks for the tip, Abby. I've ordered a little heating plate (or something like that) especially for chickens to put their water bowl on it. Untill now, I'm checking the water everyday and change it with warm water. This morning at 6, just before I went to work, I've changed it again and put an extra layer of straw. They live in a luxury hotel, haha. They stay inside untill in the afternoon, when it's a bit warmer. Yesterday, I've let them out from their little house: the first one was sun bathing and the other one escaped to our garden, but when she saw the snow, she refused to set her paws in it. I've removed the snow in their perk, so they can range free.

But, if I'm letting them in the house, I would have a big argument with my husband and I won't think that our cat would agree on it. The 2 girls are running after our outdoor cat in the beginning, but now they are cuddling together. As for our indoor cat, he would hide somewhere in the house.
I've googled a lot for the chickens and it seems to be a breed that aren't very resistant for freezing weather because they have curly feathers. They temperatures bother me too. I get worried too easy, but they've got a big layer of straw in their house and no draft or wetness. Normally the temps will rise a bit, but still a bit below zero, but if not, I can put their house in my shed and put the heather on. And I check their paws and lobes for freezing signs.
Oh, I love puppies, Kristie! Do you've got a picture? My son and I wants a dog too, but Hans says no...For puppy training, I knew someone who used a big cat litter box in the beginning. Normally, if she has something of you (like you said), she'll calm down. It's a new environment for her and she's missing her dog family.
I'm curious about her name!
Sounds to me you're taking very good care of the chickens Saar.Kristie, the puppy sounds cute but tiring! My colleague got a puppy a few weeks ago and she spent a week sleeping on the couch, getting up several times a night and not sleeping longer than until 6am. She said it was worse than having a baby ;-)
Thanks for the support guys. So my sister is a therapist. I ask her who I could see I don't care for this one guy and I do like this one woman but she's already doing my marriage so do you have anyone else I'd get along with? She's like yeah but are you in the waiting list? Business is booming from covid and we can't keep up
I'm tirn between thinking that's sad. And also that's great that mental health is losing its stigma to an extent that they have a waiting list
@Travis: it's true that there are long waiting lists, even longer than before. Here, in Belgium, it's a minimum of 6 months. I hope you can find help soon.
Yes, that's the stage I'm at now, Peggy. Last night was better than the night before, but she still just needed to confirm I was there about every 1/2 hour and she needed to go out at 3am. Seems she can go 3-4 hours at night, then she needs to go out. The nothing toy didn't seem to make any difference. I need to leave the house today for a couple of hours and she will be in the crate. I hope it doesn't set her back at night.
We're thinking about going with the name Millie.
I like Millie as a name! When I was a kid we got a puppy and couldn't decide between names. So I gave each of my fingers on one hand one of the names, held my hand in front of the puppy, and the finger he licked first would be his name.
Saar The Book owl wrote: "I love your chickens, Rusalka! They are so funny! ..."Funny and spoilt ;) I think if it gets super cold out there again, you just need to ask your husband how long he would like to stay out there for. It's not like the chickens are moving in permanently (although the girls burbling behind me seem to be on board for that course of action), just stupid cold seems fair enough.
But the coop sounds super toasty, and if it's all sealed they should be good. Sun bathing is hilarious and optimistic, and I completely understand the other not wanting to walk in the snow. I always love watching our new girls experience their first frost. They do a weird hoppy run and are never impressed lol
Hope it's warming up!

I love German Shepherd pups, they are just a wonderful balance of beautiful and goofy looking. Can't wait to see photos, but sounds like you're hands will be full for a little while. I can be patient!
Travis wrote: "Thanks for the support guys. So my sister is a therapist. Great people are reaching out for help, but sad that so many people need it at the moment. But the past year's been a bit of a cluster so I'm leaning towards the good news side. Although sucks for you trying to get in, hope you find some where you can go soon.
Hi! Probably not the place for this but I’ve been off goodreads for a couple years and decided to come back and make a new account. Looking to make some reading friends!! Nice to meet you all 💜

Haha, I think Hans wouldn't last for an hour in the cold :p It's slowly warming up, allthough the temps will be a bit below or just 0°C untill Sunday. The sun is shining now and when I get home from work I leave them outside for a couple of hours to get a fresh beak.
Hello!! Also while I’m here can someone tell me how to reply to specific people aka tag them in the comments! Isn’t letting me on the app?
Unfortunately on the app you can't do that. Maybe you just can type '@'Name':....' in the app as a help?

Thanks! :) We had a hard time deciding this time. I love Millie, but we have a Maisie and I thought the names were too similar. Everyone else said they thought it would be fine, so we went with it. It does seem to fit her.
I love that idea of having the puppy choose! So cute!

Thanks! We think so. :) It's been tough getting into puppy mode, but she's so sweet so that helps.
I posted puppy pics from the day we got her in the pets thread: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...
70 people on the list ahead of me. Looking at other places but I don't think there's gonna be a short list. When you love in a fairly low population that's just crazy to me
Wow, that sucks Travis. You would think in the age of Covid more of those types of services would be open to remote options. Making more services available, and shortening the lists 🤨 I hope that something good opens up for you soon
Travis wrote: "Thanks for the support guys. So my sister is a therapist. That must be hard - it's so important to talk to someone you get along with. I heard today that one of the common drugs used for anxiety/ depression is in world-wide short supply. COVID has impacted in so many spheres of our lives.
I hope you'll find help soon, Travis. I don't think it's possible, because she's related to you, but can't you talk in the meanwhile with your sister?
It is -2C and snowing here in Hillsboro, OR. We went out to get Raman take out and a few groceries before it started snowing for good. It is supposed to snow through the weekend.
It's been a snowy February here so far. Last week we had 15 inches and then another 4 a couple of days later, after that an inch or so. This weekend it may be an inch or so. I'm getting tired of this. When it isn't cold enough to snow, it's an icy rain. When is spring coming?
