Saar The Book owl | 2647 comments I've got that too. Somehow the deleted books managed themself to get om my 'read' - shelf, but now I delete title by title. I think I'm going to be more selective next year in what I add.

message 1802: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments That's so annoying! You should be in charge of your own shelves!

I also have series with one book read and back then I was sure I would continue, but I don't think it will ever happen. Maybe I should use some of my holidays for shelf cleaning. Better prospect than house cleaning!

message 1803: by Saar The Book owl (new)

Saar The Book owl | 2647 comments I'm taking part in another group challenge and for some reason I've got on my TBR - list books with the same position, f.e. 10 books that has number 100 as position. I get annoyed, because I can't change it.

message 1804: by Sandra, Moderator (new)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11257 comments Oh, yes. That happened to me once. Books have to be in an exclusive shelf and the default is "read". What a pain.

I did an important cleaning up of my TBR at some point in the year, but I still think I should do it again. I'm also adding way less books to it. It is useless when it gets so massive. It's like the whole GR in a shelf!

Saar, that is weird. I never saw that happening.

message 1805: by Saar The Book owl (new)

Saar The Book owl | 2647 comments I never had that either, but I've got 5 books with number 145 and 999 goes to 101 instead of 1000.

message 1806: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19123 comments I didn't know that about the exclusive shelf. I'll have to be careful when I go through mine.

One of the problems I have is that I may read the first book in a series and think I want to read the others, so I buy them when they are on a deal with Kindle or Audible. Then, if enough time goes by that I might not want to read them anymore I'm not sure what to do with them because I own them and keep track of my owned books on my shelf, so I can't remove them completely or I'll forget they are even an option.

message 1807: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59847 comments That sounds like my problem exactly!

message 1808: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments My holidays have started!!! As soon as I closed my laptop I got this huge feeling of happiness and relaxation. I love my job, but I think I really need this. Two weeks off, here I come!

message 1809: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19123 comments Yay, Peggy! Have a nice, relaxing holiday!

Janice (jamasc) | 59847 comments Enjoy your holiday, Peggy!

message 1811: by Rusalka, Moderator (new)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19202 comments Yay Peggy! Enjoy your holiday and I understand. I was going to finish up early on the 23rd, but you know, and then shutting off my laptop, putting it on a shelf, and unplugging and packing away all the accessories for it from my desk at 6pm was a magical feeling.

message 1812: by Rusalka, Moderator (new)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19202 comments Merry Aussie Christmas to those of you who celebrate the holiday!
We have come home from my family's Christmas celebrations tonight, and I have been prepping the pork for tomorrow's lunch.

Having a wind down wine before turning the oven down and going to bed (it's 2am) which means we'll wake up, have a coffee and head off to Lexx's family with a 11+ hour cooked pork shoulder.

I know a lot of your plans have been changed or paused. I hope you have a relaxing day if it's not the normal craziness.

message 1813: by Saar The Book owl (new)

Saar The Book owl | 2647 comments Enjoy your vacation, Peggy!

I've started the late shift an hour ago and I hope it will calm down. My collegue said it was a hectic day, so I'm not going to jinx it. An hour before Christmas I finish my shift and go home. Tomorrow enjoying the day with my son and husband.

For everyone who is celebrating, have a wonderful Christmas Eve ;)

message 1816: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19123 comments The weather is expected to be 69*F (20.5*C) and sunny where I live for Christmas tomorrow. There is a winter weather advisory in effect where we are visiting. We are expecting, snow, sleet, and freezing rain here with a high of 33*F (0.5*C). I really think everyone should come to visit us in the future. lol - all of them instead of just the two of us traveling. ;)

Roz | 4524 comments It's our first Christmas season in Texas and I have to say it's bizarre. I'm used to the cold and snow of the Northeast. Tomorrow's weather is sunny with a high of 84 degrees F (28.8 C). So weird.

message 1818: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19123 comments It's definitely weird to get used to, Roz, but I much prefer being out in nice weather to traveling during a messy winter storm.

message 1819: by Sandra, Moderator (new)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11257 comments Roz, this is my 10th Christmas in the US, and it is still waits to me not to be sitting outside, in a long table in the backyard with my whole family, and fireworks in the sky.

message 1820: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Oh yes, you should definitely have a change of plans Kristie!

message 1821: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59847 comments I'll be right there, Kristie. It's -30C (-22F) here right now.

message 1822: by Sharon (new)

Sharon Hopper | 2417 comments Things are quiet. The weather is mild. I just enjoyed a Christmas Eve meal with my brother, SIL and husband. We exchanged gifts and laughed. Tomorrow my husband and I will celebrate together very early and then head to my daughter’s a couple of hours away to watch my granddaughter open gifts and to be together. Lovely times and great memories. I was born and raised in Fort Lauderdale, Florida and live in middle Georgia where weather is mild. Hoping to see a white Christmas someday!

message 1828: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments Happy holidays everyone. I'm not sure where I've been other than through a lot lol. Let's see. The ex filed for divorce. I wanted to get 50% custody. She raised a very good point about my work schedule and kids being in house alone too much. So I solved the issue. Sold my cows, rented the land to another farmer and am working on selling my last 30 younger animals and equipment. I was unemployed for 7 weeks and now I work a maintenance job for the 4000 units of housing at the army base with normal hours of 7am to 330pm Monday thru Friday. Some occasional overtime but that still only puts me at 50 hours a week which is half what I worked as a farmer. Still in the middle of the divorce so no ruling on custody or anything else yet. But hopefully that's getting towards the end because I'm sick of paying a lawyer. You'd think I'd be reading a lot but I can't really listen to audiobooks at work and at home it's chaos because I have a now 3 month old German shorthaired pointer puppy along with my old GSP dog and my 3 year old beagle. Gets chaotic pretty quick.

message 1829: by Sandra, Moderator (new)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11257 comments Wow. That is quite a change, Travis. I'm happy for you. You will have more time for your kids and yourself. I hope everything goes well with the last steps of the divorce.

message 1830: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments Yeah a month ago I guess I took the kids away for the weekend to an indoor water park. I took my daughter to a Christmas ball couple weeks ago. I've definitely gotten to do new things

message 1831: by Travis (new)

Good for you Travis! You're obviouly a very committed father, your kids are lucky. I hope the custody thing works out for you and best of luck in the new job :-)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments Thanks Margo

message 1834: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19123 comments Sounds like the new job may work out well for you, Travis. I hope you end up with joint custody. Your children are fortunate to have two loving parents who both want the best for them.

Kristie | 19123 comments We are driving, driving, driving…

message 1836: by Sharon (new)

Sharon Hopper | 2417 comments We are home so we aren’t driving, Kristie. I know the roads here in the US are very crowded today. I am alternating between putting away gifts, doing laundry (will it ever stop?) and reading my last book for the 2021 Yearly challenge.

message 1837: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19123 comments We’ve been on the road for about 7 hours today and are probably about halfway home.

message 1838: by Sharon (new)

Sharon Hopper | 2417 comments Oh my! I am so sorry. Safe travels and hopefully, you can rest a bit tomorrow.

message 1839: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19123 comments Yeah, I do hope to sleep in at least for a little while tomorrow. We knew we were in for a long drive though, so we were prepared for it.

message 1840: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Are you doing it in one go Kristie, or stay overnight somewhere halfway through?

message 1841: by Sharon (new)

Sharon Hopper | 2417 comments That’s something, at least. I lived 12 hours from home when I was in college. It was the longest drive. I had to gear myself up for it too! I had to go the whole length of Florida to the very southern part. Back then, there wasn’t much to see! But the traffic was nothing like today. My brother and SIL live three hours north of us. They left six hours ago and have about an hour left if traffic wasn’t an issue. Hopefully, it isn’t rainy and you will arrive home safe and sound!

message 1842: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19123 comments We do it all in one shot, Peggy. We drove up on Wednesday, spent three days with friends and family, and are driving the whole way back today. It’ll be good to be home.

The roads were very slippery up by my family. We had freezing rain on Christmas, then some snow over night. Fortunately, once we were out of that area the roads cleared up and we’ve had clear skies the whole way. We hit a couple of pockets of very heavy traffic, but overall not too bad especially for Christmas weekend.

message 1843: by Sandra, Moderator (new)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11257 comments Drive safe, Kristie. Any good audiobook for company? (other than your husband's, obviously)

message 1844: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59847 comments Good to hear from you Travis. Lots of changes in your life and it's a positive step to reduce the number of hours your work.

message 1845: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19123 comments We are home! It's always so good to see my family and friends up north, but it's also always so good to be home again too! :)

Sandra, we listened to A Clean Kill in Tokyo for my yearly challenge on the way there. I have the new Orphan X book, Dark Horse, through NetGalley. Craig enjoys the series as much as I do, so we listened to a bunch of that on the way home. Now we need to come up with a reason to drive somewhere together soon to finish it!

message 1846: by Saar The Book owl (new)

Saar The Book owl | 2647 comments That's a lot of changes in your life, Travis, but you're a comitted father. I hope you get the 50% custody and that 2022 may be a better year for you.

message 1847: by Margo (new)

Margo | 11628 comments I'd say it's great to get home after that drive! If I drove for 7 hours in any direction I'd have to get on a ferry for part on the trip lol

message 1848: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19123 comments Margo wrote: "I'd say it's great to get home after that drive! If I drove for 7 hours in any direction I'd have to get on a ferry for part on the trip lol"

Yes! It's definitely a long trip. Fortunately, the traffic wasn't too bad and the weather worked with us both days. We have learned to go around the major cities like New York and DC. It's a little further in distance, but not time, because you sit in less traffic. Still, it is strange to think that we drove for a total of 26 hours just to get there and back within 5 days.

message 1849: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59847 comments Glad you made it there and back safely, Kristie. That was a lot of driving.

We've been dropped into the deep freeze today. It's -42C (-44F). I am not venturing out anywhere for any reason today.

message 1850: by Esther (new)

Esther (nyctale) | 5190 comments Travis, That is quite a change. I hope all works well for you.
